CROWN NEWS Creating A Respectful Environment in Society

Dear Readers, Welcome to the Winter Edition of Crossroads Crown CARES Magazine. The cold winter months have been busy at Crown CARES. Crossroads has worked on a Unite day for the Crown CARES Walk Run or Roll on May 7, and the entire month is dedicated to the environment, more on that in the Spring. This month, we feature two Platform Pages used in the delegate's respective pageant magazines— what a great way to snapshot your volunteer work. Crown CARES is still working diligently on Covid Vaccine promotion and sharing safety information to families, youth, and the elderly. We hope you stay safe, wear a mask, and get vaccinated; it is the best way to respect your fellow man! Our family of Crown CARES state, national and international pageants promoting awareness is gearing up for the virtual walk, and we invite you to visit our website to see how you can walk, run or roll with the rest of us!

With gratitude,

Deb Landry Editor in Chief

The many faces of

ANNA OPTIMISTIC, ENTHUSIASTIC, & INSPIRATIONAL

There’s

a lot to be said about

Anna Casador-Saccoccio, wife, m o t h e r, g r a n d m o t h e r e x t r a ordinaire. This lady does it all. It’s hard to believe she finds the time to serve as the Vice President & Partner at Thermal Energy with her husband, Frank, a nonprofit in memory of her son Eric, a multi-state pageant director, an international titleholder, a corrective tattoo artist for women who have had reconstructive surgery and of course, we can’t forget her love and volunteer work as an animal activist. I can honestly say that this list of jobs is minuscule compared to the strength and courage she has faced in life.

A Rhode Island native, Anna moved to the US Virgin Islands and opened Anna’s Cafe. After running a Dunkin Donuts for several years, she wanted a change, loved cooking and dreamed of owning her restaurant. Her dreams faded into a nightmare in October of 2007 when Anna was devastated and crusted by losing her beloved son Eric in a fatal car accident. Stricken with grief, Anna returned to RI, where over a period of 2-4 years, she suffered from depression and anxiety leading her to gain 150 lbs. As time went on, she was invited to compete in a local pageant, which she found rather funny at first. When she told her sister she would

compete, her sister just laughed hysterically. That didn’t stop Anna; somehow it motivated her to start a new chapter in her life. Dieting, activity, and meeting new friends in the pageant world inspired her to rethink a healthy lifestyle. She found a commardary with these women she was competing with along with the passion she was missing for so many years. But it wasn’t easy by any means as Anna suffers from r heumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's disease, an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland, which resulted in developing Alopecia, a side effect of Hashimoto. Her treatment includes regular chemo and medication control. She uncontrollably began losing patches of hair. Her long black hair was falling out in handfuls and now she was faced with few choices of what to do. She did the only thing she knew how. Embraced her new look. She was even more beautiful than before, counting her blessings and not worrying about how she looked, and letting go of societal norms. By 2016, Anna was ready for her first local pageant and had a fantastic time. By 2017, she had lost 80 lbs and competed for Mrs. RI America. She competed in the American Wo m e n o f S e r v i c e p a g e a n t , winning the Elite title. During the pandemic, she competed for Mrs.

RI again while dealing with her Alopecia and was crowned Mrs. American, taking her to nationals, where she finished in the top 15. Last July, she competed again in the American Women of Service International Pageant and won the Mrs. division. The story is short but the journey has been long. As a titleholder and pageant queen, she wants to share her story and journey with other girls and women in hopes she can motivate them to find their passion. One way she did this is starting a

501c3. The Eric Medeiros Memorial Foundation focuses on volunteerism, something Anna and Eric loved to do together. Anna recently became a state director for the American Women Pageants serving Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the US Virgin Islands. Anna’s pride and joy are her three daughters and grandchildren she shares with Frank. And if she is not with her children, working, or on the phone with her dear mother-in-law, she will be found giving back to the organizations she so dearly loves. She is one remarkable woman! The Lounge with Anna website provides information on empowering others to turn Pain. Into purpose and possibilities.

EVERYBODY SPARKLES MEET DELAINY GILLIS Meet Delainy Gillis, a volunteer and pageant enthusiast. Being involved in a pageant that focuses on community service is perfect for her long-time desire to give back. She especially enjoys the many opportunities that high school provides to share her platform, “Everybody Sparkles.” Every day is a chance to encourage and support others who have unique personalities and talents. She shares kindness each day, whether holding a door, t h a n k i n g a t e a c h e r, o r complimenting a classmate. Her favorite class allows them to chat over a cup of tea or hot chocolate about their dreams and plans for the future and how to reach goals and objectives (keeping their distance, of course). Opportunities to volunteer have changed with the need to protect family members and friends with health issues but haven’t stopped her. For example, she enjoys sharing stories and activities with her grandparents. Writing thank-you notes to teachers is her latest

project - providing note cards and encouraging classmates to do the same, an age-old tradition that has lost its footing with social media. Delainy continues making blankets to give to foster-care teens, educating others on what it is like to be a military kid, collecting new socks with her class, Jobs for Maine Grads (JMG), and taking food donations to the school to restock teacher’s cabinets. COVID restrictions have not slowed her down; they only allowed her to think outside the box. Delainy’s favorite activity is always sharing her joy for fashion. Whether it is a Renaissance Faire or a formal dinner, she is ready to style anyone. She has designed her entire pageant wardrobe for 2022 and will debut her first custom-made dress designed, sourced, and created solely by Delainy this February. Photographer Danielle Pease was kind enough to work with Delainy on her vision for a photoshoot. This activity took almost six hours in the studio and long hours, choosing the perfect images to submit for her platform page, which is included in this article. The greatest gift has the opportunity to explore a passion and vision with others who recognize and embrace their sparkle. Delainy’s creativity radiates out of her like sunshine. You have to stand next to her to feel the warmth, energy, and Sparkle!
