Rex’s Cave

A scathing obituary in the Associated Press went viral after the death of a 79 year old woman in a nursing home, who I won’t help immortalize by naming her here. Described in the article, by one of her eight children as a ‘wicked, wicked witch,’ tells me that her grown son who wrote it never came close to the compassion that forgiveness requires. It tells me that his pain from the abuse haven’t disappeared with his mother’s death, as though it were inside her.

Horrific stories of the children’s abuse prompted Nevada to become one of the first states in the 80s to pass legislation that recognized equal consideration of the interests of the child when terminating parental rights. In cases of abuse, if not the child’s interest, then the court only considered the rights of the abuser?? I shutter.

Our Canyon Lake Community Profile for our Halloween issue is Nancy Deckard. As the mother of six and as a teacher who has been busy ensuring a better future for students around her, Nancy is putting her experience to good use as a Court Appointed Special Advocate to help kids in the court system. Because of the severity of neglect or abuse, a judge is proceeding to permanently terminate parental rights.

I don’t know if people who harm helpless kids have feelings but they – like you – need to know. Regardless of what the surface may show, abusers do kill a part of that child that is forever stunted from growth. Just as I’m sure a teacher has little outward evidence of the children that they have changed for forever but for good.

If you see a child you believe is being abused, don’t brush it off without care. Report your suspicions to authorities and let them determine the truth. If the family wants help, there is help. The national Office of Child Abuse and Neglect (OCAN) focuses on making safe children and healthy families a shared responsibility of strong communities that prevent child abuse and neglect by promoting awareness activities. A community focused on the good care of its kids is a community that thrives. Canyon Lake is extraordinarily focused on community – its kids are the highest priority and indeed it thrives.

The reprecussions of child abuse that reverberate within the child for life and outwardly through the society that allowed it can’t be measured. I do know that if the evil witch were even imprisoned, she should never have been allowed out. ... the storZ implied her punishment was ‘shame??

Protect your purchasing power in retirement

Inflation is a persistent, substantial rise in the general price level. It is a long-term consideration that cannot be ignored because, even at today’s relatively low rate of 2%, inflation can relentlessly wear down your money’s purchasing power over time.

This will impact your retirement plans unless you take action.

Before retirement, consider how much money you’ll need and adjust for inflation. Let’s say that you will want $2,000 a month in supplemental retirement income (in today’s dollars) and that inflation averages 6% a year. If you retire in ten years, you will actually need $3,582 per month to receive the same purchasing power with your money. Retire in 20 years, and you’ll need $6,414; in 30 years, $11,487 per month. Of course, this example is hypothetical and actual results may vary, but you get the idea.

After retirement, inflation will continue to affect your money’s purchasing power. You may need to adjust your strategy for a retirement that could last 30 years. Using the Rule of 72, the purchasing power of a dollar could drop to $0.50 in 18 years at 4% inflation (72 divided by 4% = 18 years for prices to double).

If your investments are earning 4% and inflation is 5%, the real dollar value of your assets is actually declining!

My recommendation, fight back! To maintain your standard of living over time, your investments must outpace infla-

tion and earn a competitive rate of return while meeting your financial objectives.

Include growth investments in your portfolio. It may be beneficial to diversify, potentially allowing you to take advantage of upswings among many types of investments while minimizing the effect of down turns in others. Finally, reinvestment of dividends will allow you to take advantage of compounding and tax-deferral opportunities.

Don’t let inflation nibble away at your retirement fund’s purchasing power. Fight inflation with growth investments, diversification, and dividend reinvestment.

CASA of Central Texas invites you to get involved in the fight against child abuse by training to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

A child needs you now.

CASA of Central Texas advocates for abused and neglected children in the community by recruiting, training, and supporting community volunteers.

CASA volunteers are appointed to children who are confirmed victims to independently investigate and provide recommendations to the family court judge, what is in the best interest of the child. They often serve as the only consistent adult in the child’s life.

Volunteers are assigned to one case at a time, to make sure the children receive the attention they need.

We need more volunteers.

Training Classes meet once a week for five weeks.

In 2012, CASA of Central Texas served 372 children in Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays Counties but an estimated 400 or more additional children did not have the voice of a CASA volunteer.

Voice Tours are held during the noon hour on the first and second Wednesdays of each month. You are invited.

~ using a gift to give back

by Sue Sweat She was only 15, but it was an experience that ultimately directed much of her life. As a teenage counselor at Girl Scout camp, Nancy Decker taught a little blind girl how to braid. It wasn’t easy, but nor was it work. The joy of shared success was an emotional moment that gave her a direction in life. That’s the moment she knew, without doubts, that she would be a teacher. Nancy grew up to be a teacher, a wife, a mother of six, grandmother of 20, and great grandmother of three. She has been guiding the future of children for many, many years.

In her current life of retirement, Nancy volunteers time with a variety of community organizations and also as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for CASA of Central Texas, helping to guide children to a better future.

Nancy was blessed with a good childhood, loving parents and even extended family; she warmly remembers the nurturing attention her Aunt and Uncle gave her. As she recalls the fond memories growing up, she knows she was learning positive lessons from her family on any average day without realizing how much. There are many parents who were raised by parents with few parenting skills. They have no clue what to do with their own child.

Nancy’s college education was already underway when she and Larry married in 1959. The Michigan couple wisely planned that Nancy would finish college and get work so Larry could quit working and then start on his. Nancy did teach a few years, but Larry postponed college while the girls kept coming. With four girls under four years old which is exhausting just to write, Nancy became a stay at home mom for a while. Once all four had degrees in hand, then Larry went on to get his degree.

One of Larry’s job offers took them to Canada for a few years. Another lured them to Stafford, just outside of Houston. There the Decker family added a fifth daughter, and a baby brother to complete their clan. Nancy taught for 12 years there.

In 1999, they bought a “waterfront” home in Canyon Lake for vacations with long range plans to eventually move; they visited the first two summers. Nancy said the plan was for her to pack the car and pick Larry up after

work so they could take her car. “Both times, he was so excited, he was almost standing in the road and barely waited for me to stop to jump in and say, ‘go.’ We moved here the next year.”

Their two youngest graduated from UT. Larry worked as a contractor at Lackland military base in San Antonio; Nancy was a Vocational Adjustment Coordinator there for a Work Study Group to teach severely handicapped kids job skills – providing guidance.

Whether before or after she retired from the workforce routine, Nancy never doubted her value and contribution to society, but she did know her gifts offered nothing when she didn’t put it to use. Teaching was a fulfilling profession. At home, without sharing it, she thought, was a complete waste.

Seemingly accidental, the one call for information began a new slice of her life stimulated by new surroundings that she saw around her and new goals of new faces she met.

Nancy explained she didn’t have any grand plans, or a vision of purpose,” or of her future, “I had never heard of CASA.’ She had no clue what they did; she thought the little ad she called about fit her experience well. So she picked up the phone to find out more.

She started the training immediately. She has had six cases but 13 children because one Advocate can assist several siblings, if they choose. If siblings are separated into different homes, the Advocate arranges for the child to stay in touch with family support if approved.

Typically, the child moves through several foster placements and schools, caseworker turnovers but has one advocate for the duration. Too many kids don’t have anyone. They may go through formative years feeling safe nowhere and afraid to trust anyone. Nancy is pleased she could be someone her CASA kids could finally trust.

Nancy is now on the Board, helping with the Wing Society support group for Advocates, the New Life Girl’s Center Board, her POA Board, and is a member of the Canyon Lake Retired Teachers and Canyon Lake Republican Women. Formerly a CRRC Board member, she is now on the Advisory Board.

Nancy added, “I had so much love growing up that I really want to give back.” And you can’t deny one thing, these are kids who don’t deserve where they are in life.

It’s about time they were on the receiving end.

CASA workers come from all walks of life, representing a variety of ethnic, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Some of our advocates are employed full-time, some are college students and some are retired. The advocate investigates, evaluates, and recommends to the Judge what is in the best interest of the child. Holiday Gift Drive Begins Every November, Court Appointed Special Advocates ask for help in order to provide holiday gifts for CASA children – a wonderful opportunity to extend the giving tradition to true children in need! When you start most any task, it’s best to start with a plan; the same is true when you paint a room. You don’t want the waste of having excess specialty-mixed paint left over that you can’t return. If you have to return to get more, you waste gas money and time to get paint that sellers expect won’t be a perfect match. So first you should ask, “How much paint do I need?”

You need the square footage of the room to answer that, and it’s pretty easy to figure. You can take rough dimensions and multiply the wall height (usually 8 feet) by the wall width. For example, a wall that is 8 feet high and 10 feet wide is 80 square feet. You can also visit Sherwin-Williams.com for a great calculator where you type the dimensions in. It also asks for measurements of trim, windows, and doors to arrive at a more precise total. The general rule for paint is that you need one gallon for every 350 square feet of surface area.

Next, do you think the surface requires more than one coat? If you’re repainting a room about the same shade as before, you may only need one coat. Painting a lighter color over dark usually requires multiple coats. You can reduce the need for multiple coats by using an all-in-one paint-and-primer. High-quality paints do give the best results. Cheaper brands don’t offer the coverage or durability that better paints do.

When you buy paint, plan to keep a little of the left over paint to use for touch-ups down the road. If you buy a small amount at a later date, the shades probably won’t be identical.. Because there are small variances when paint batches are mixed, the patch you paint will probably show. Having touch up paint available will extend the length of time you have until you need to paint again.

Label the paint with which room it was used in. Often, when a small amount of paint is left in a gallon container, it will dry up for a variety of reasons by the time it’s needed for touch-up. I recommend that you transfer the paint to a smaller container with a tight-fitting lid and clearly mark the date, brand, color, etc. and keep this where you store your brushes. (You are keeping everything organized, right?)

Have fun painting. If it seems like more than what you want to worry with remembering, you can always call a professional handyman – so small things don’t become big issues.

Why does my pet need an exam every year?

I get that question every so often, or someone will say “my dog is the picture of health, never had a sick day in his life, so he doesn’t need an exam.” Or they ask, “Heck Doc, all you do is run your hands over him; why do I need to pay money to bring my pet in for that?”

There’s really many reasons why you do need to bring your pet in every year for a veterinary exam. Even though your veterinarian may look like they are just petting on your dog, they are actually gaining valuable information about your pet’s health. In a normal head to tail exam, a veterinarian can discover a myriad of health problems your pet may have.

Problems such as dental disease, oral tumors and infection, anemia, neurologic disease, enlarged lymph nodes, ear infections, heart murmurs and arrhythmias, lung disease, parasites (fleas, ticks, tapeworms), skin tumors, skin infections, abdominal masses or discomfort, enlarged organs, mammary and testicular tumors, muscle atrophy, weight gain or loss, and arthritis are just a handful of things that a veterinarian will notice on physical exams that many pet owners are not trained to observe about their “healthy” pet. The sooner these issues are discovered, the better off your pet will be.

As we all know, pets age much faster than humans and one pet year is equivalent to five to ten human years depending upon the age and breed of the pet. I think most of us would agree that it’s probably a good idea to get examined by a MD at least once every 5-10 years. This is even more important for senior pets over the age of seven and in young, growing pets less than six months of age.

Annual exams are also needed to refill medications and receive vaccines. Vaccines or prescription medications can do harm if they are given to a pet with unknown health problems, and a veterinary exam ensures that these problems don’t go undiagnosed and cause further harm to your pet.

The value of the veterinary exam doesn’t just stop when the vet completes his or her exam. You have a captive audience with an expert in veterinary medicine, so use it to ask them the many questions you must have as a pet owner! We all have access to a vast amount of information these days that can be confusing, and frequently conflicting. A face to face, one-on-one discussion with a licensed expert is a great opportunity to get those questions answered. An informed owner with a big heart will provide the best care.

Deep feelings and emotions that we humans intimately share create some of the richest moments in life. In over 35 years in the jewelry business, I’ve seen a lot of jewelry purchased for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, etc. Most shoppers share a part of their personal story with me; I truly enjoy it, and it helps me help them find the perfect piece to mark their special occasion.

Jewelry purchased with emotion stands the test of time; a piece of quality will withstand passing it on as a family heirloom for generations to come. While not monumentally life changing, such gifts can deeply affect lives when the emotion it expresses is sincerely and deeply felt. The purchase is often made when someone has recognized another’s importance in their life and feels compelled to honor the emotion with physical evidence – essentially a tangible token to recognize that esteemed value.

Jewelry is given for many reasons, admittedly some with little merit; however, most gifts of jewelry convey an emotion that is cherished in memories each time it is admired. Classic, of course, is the wedding ring, whether given to start a marriage or later as a symbol of appreciation for a marriage that has withstood the test of time. An older person who has lost a spouse is often deeply connected to the ring that symbolizes their years of marriage – a heart warming testament to hear.

When you’re buying a gift of jewelry, think of the emotions the piece represents and what it will mean to the person who will receive it … now, and in future memories. And if you’re the lucky recipient, understand that your piece of jewelry represents more than just the decoration of a beautiful piece. It’s a memento of remembrance that ensures you don’t forget the love, or friendship, it conveys. It represents the emotions that make us human and what makes the world a wonderful place to live.

Go around your house and look closely for any gaps or holes. Are there gaps between the window and door trim and the siding, stone or brick on your home? Be sure to look at the top of the windows and doors. Builders often miss this gap. How are your door thresholds holding up? When was the last time you checked them?

If your house has settled at all since you last checked for gaps, then it’s time to check again.

Replacing weatherstripping around your doors every few years can make a big difference in dropping your utility bills. There are three different types of weatherstripping. Depending on what you need to weatherize will determine the type of stripping you need.

Ask the folks at your local hardware store for information. They have the best tools and great advice too.

by Richard Ferrell As fall fast approaches, the Canyon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Canyon Lake Art Guild, the Heritage Museum and the Tye Preston Memorial Library have joined forces to form the organization called Artisan Community of Canyon Lake (ACCL) to promote Canyon Lake as an Artisan Community. This venture is to promote the artistic talent in the Canyon Lake area and to feature this area as a year-round artisan community and destination.

This month, we kick off our first project and it is an EGG-stravaganza. If you don’t already know, dinosaur footprints that have been found in our area – a lot! Keeping that in mind, a local artist has suggested the construction of large dinosaur EGGs that have been decorated by local artists to be placed around the community.

This would be similar to what Austin did with the decorated Long Horns or what New Braunfels did with their decorated beer steins, but these would be permanent.

Local businesses, organizations, or any entity are encouraged to commission, display and promote themselves and the community by getting involved. The Canyon Lake Art Guild has plenty of artists willing to build and decorate a dinosaur EGG with your theme to be displayed in front of your business. Maps showing the locations of the EGGs will be free to the public and distributed by the local, participating sites. Maps would encourage tourists to travel around the lake to see your business, and all that our community has to offer them.

The first of many EGGs will be placed at the Tye Preston Memorial Library this month and will kick off the start of the community’s involvement. We have started connecting businesses with local artist to commission these different EGGs. If you want to get involved, now is the time to act.

Furniture arranging tips

Where you situate your furniture will set the mood of your room. Here are six tips for arranging spaces, whether you’re relaxing or catching up with friends.

Get the dimensions of a room, then check the dimensions of the hallways, stairs and doors leading to the space. This is the perpetual challenge for a homeowner, being sure the intended areas are large enough for your purchases.

Every furnishing has a height, depth and width. For a more energetic space and to maintain visual interest, use pieces with various sizes and volume with different characteristics.

If you’re going for a tranquil area, keep the furnishing sizes similar in the area with similar facets.

Size furnishings in relation to one another and the size of the space is their scale. A proper scale creates a harmonious atmosphere. When furnishings are out of scale, you’ll notice that it just won’t feel right. A very large piece can over ride a much smaller piece if scale is not maintained, while a piece too large or too small for the room will look disproportionate.

Create a balance in your area. There are two forms of balance: symmetrical and asymmetrical. Symmetry has two of everything the same size and shape. Asymmetry is an imbalance, such as two vases of different sizes and style next to each other.

Symmetry is meant to be restful, while asymmetry is used to add visual movement and excitement.

Create depth in your room. Stand at the entry of your room.

Place a chair at an angle in the foreground closest to you. A cocktail table will provide a mid-ground, and a sofa along the wall will serve as the background. A window or a work of art will give you your vanishing point.

All furniture arrangements have a certain “form.” A long, narrow living space can be split in two by creating areas of purpose. One half can be for the sofa and the other half for a dining set. A small area can be used with one purpose.

The marks of transcendence

Classic Christian theology sets forth the opinion that the Bible is a one-of-a-kind volume, that it is the graphical residue of divine disclosure, the verbalized revelation, the Word of God. If this is true then it should contain the marks of transcendence. I believe that these marks are accessible for all to see.

One of the marks is the unique phenomenon of futuristic prophecy and its attested fulfillment. The Scofield Study Bible says “ Scripture predictions of future events were uttered so long before the events took place that no mere human wisdom of foresight could have anticipated them... Hundreds of predictions concerning Israel, the lands of Canaan, Babylon, Assyria, Egypt and numerous individuals – so ancient, so singularly, so seemingly improbable as well as so detailed and so definite that no mortal could have anticipated them – have been fulfilled by natural elements and by men who were ignorant of them or who utterly disbelieved them or who struggled with frantic desperation to avoid their fulfillment”.

An amazing example of fulfilled Bible prophecy is found in Daniel 8:22, 200 years before Alexander the Great lived, conquered, and died, Daniel wrote “...four kingdoms shall arise out of that nation [Greece], but not with its power.” Alexander’s mighty empire was not inherited by his son as expected, but was divided into four parts by his generals. How could Daniel have known this was going to happen? Only by a supernatural communication from God whose knowledge spans the centuries. This is only one example of many.

Protect your wishes

by Charles Sullivan Sadly many people’s final wishes are not carried out. Somehow our trusted family members and friends lose sight of what’s right when the almighty dollar gets involved. This is particularly true with regard to Trusts. As my clients know, it is my sincere belief, lacking a good reason you should not have a Trust. For most people drafting a good trust is complicated and the Grantors/Trustors wind up with someone with has no clue as to how a Trust should be handled. Likewise Trustee’s have no idea what it is they have taken on in terms of responsibility.

The bottom line is that Probate is not expensive as compared to a Trust. Lacking a good reason for a Trust, you spend more money and likely will still have to probate the Will unless you actually put all your property in the Trust. Most financial institutions don’t like to loan money to a Trust. So when you buy something, you better be very sure the assets are put in the Trust correctly. You could wind up in a situation where the Trust assets pass as you wish, but there are leftovers that still must be probated.

In addition, in the past two weeks, I have witnessed horrible abuses of Trust’s where one Trustee even admitted he did not know what a Trustee or Fiduciary Duty even meant. Well folks, it means that Trustee/Fiduciary has more obligations from a legal standpoint than you can imagine. Do not hesitate to ask, in a similar situation; any question is better than none.

Your dog and your kids

by Will Garrido I often hear people brag about their dogs in terms of how tolerable they are with children.

You may have heard lines like, the child will “grab his tail, his ears, shove his face against the dog’s face and even rides the dog like a horse and the dog just sits there. He’s a good dog.”

Yes indeed, that is a good dog, but it still makes me sad that people will subject their pets to that kind of inappropriate interaction from another creature. If things however go sour, and the child gets bit, the dog is condemned to a death sentence. I want to remind everyone that the way a dog responds to another creature invading its space – and basically abusing it by subjecting it to unnatural physical interactions – is not a good way to judge a dog’s character. Dogs can’t say “stop that” in human language – only in their language.

As is often the case, we either don’t recognize the message or misinterpret it. Then the dog is put in a position where he either has to endure the lack of respect or stop the lack of respect.

The best thing to do is to teach your children to be mindful of animals. That physical interaction is good and should be encouraged, but appropriately and respectfully. Teach your children to pet and caress, not to grab, squeeze and pull – not to shove their face on the dog’s face or ride it like a horse. These are all highly inappropriate gestures for dogs. It would be the equivalent of someone grabbing your hair or pulling you from your scruff. Most of us who are gentle, patient, and tolerant will not hesitate to put an immediate stop to that kind of gesture.

Consider the risk children are exposed to when we let this happen. In reality, every dog has a breaking point, every dog has the potential to bite under certain circumstances. Let’s do our animals and our society a huge favor and let’s teach our children to respect all creatures.

This is a question that stone artifact collectors have tackled since about the mid-1970s, when modern knapping became quite popular, thereupon making it a very well-established hobby.

So what is knapping? Technically speaking, knapping is the fracturing and shaping of lithic material to create a final convincing stone tool, such as an arrowhead. Modern knapping is generally limited to those few arrowhead types that are popular and requested by the buying public.

Successful knappers have a good knowledge of typology, lithic material and its grain flow, coupled with an understanding of how stone fractures, the rhythm of ancient knapping, and how to get the most out of a pound of chert.

Way back then when Comanches roamed these Central Texas hills, they discovered that fine-grained chert make the best tools – that’s the one main reason the Comanche called the Texas Hill Country home. They made authentic Indian arrowheads. Today though, full-blooded Anglo knappers are replicating/reproducing projectile points with amazing hand craftsmanship including most of the nuances of the ancients.

And their efforts have given us a deeper understanding of how Indians created their stone tools.

Collectors of authentic arrowheads, who can identify ancient from modern work – outside of just plain ol intuitiveness – can usually recognize the very slight differences between modern and ancient projectile points; for example, modern tools like copper billets or nails produce a noticeable kind of pressure flake stroke than tools used by the Indians. However, if you see a reproduction, and like it, and you can afford it, then buy it and you will have something that you enjoy owning.

You may already know this skill, but for those who don’t, you might give it a try. It could open a whole new world of excitement for you.

If you’d like to see some real arrowheads, stop by the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country.

CRRC announces Adult Programs

In pursuit of one of CRRC’s goals (for your health and wellbeing), CRRC now offers Adult Classes and activities, previously known as Senior Programs. They realized that Seniors fall into the Adult category, while ‘adults’ often arent yet seniors. Other adults had expressed interest in some of the Senior programs but thought they might be restricted to Seniors only. MaJong, jewelry making, dominos, cards, Medicare information, Matter of Balance’s presentation to prevent falls etc. do interest both. The name rather than the programs is all that’s expected to change in order to encompass and encourage a broader group to participate and ensure they know they are welcome.

More adult activities will make use of the Community Center that’s more comfortable and adaptable to quiet adult activities and educational presentations this age group enjoys. Energetic younger families will see more room open at the gymnasium atmosphere of the Rec Center that they welcome with relief –because, it’s not quiet.

There will be an exception. The Thursday Potluck Lunch around which the Dam Seniors group organized will remain a “senior program.” They hope the designation will encourage others in their age group to stop by. Please do stop by. 830-964-2937.

Oct. 19 COMMUNITY CLEANUP

~ Keep Canyon Lake Beautiful! ~

On October 19th at 9am, a volunteer force will head out with Keep Canyon Lake Beautiful! for the Community Clean-Up to clean various sections of the shoreline of Canyon Lake. This surely should be of interest to all men, women and kids who swim, float or raft but especially fish, because it affects the fish too. Less plastic for them to mistake as food should do them much good... and fishermen too.

WORD will provide lunch afterwards. They hope for volunteers en masse to help with this community cleanup project! Although the Octagon Club has stepped forward to volunteer, many, many more are needed.

All individuals, families, groups, organizations and businesses are called upon and welcome to participate. This is also a great way for students to earn community service hours. Cleanup supplies and drinks will be provided. Join in and help WORD with this much needed clean up effort that greatly benefit the community. Pumpkinfest & Winters Eve on the Wimberley Square

by Cissy Yeates The Wimberley Merchants Association (WMA) is working again to bring two of Wimberley’s favorite events to the 2013 season.

PumpkinFest. For the month of October, residents and patrons to the Wimberley area can purchase specialty Jack-o'-Lanterns and decorative pumpkins from participating merchants on the Wimberley Square for all your decorating needs (until they’re all sold). The Scarecrow Contest is judged on October 19th; the creations decorate the shops.

Bring the children to PumpkinFest on Saturday, October 12, 9am-5pm for festive fall fun. Children’s Day will be held at merchant locations around the Square and at Sugar Shack Bakery on Ranch Road 12 N. You may purchase a pumpkin to carve or paint at various participating merchants; paint and tools are provided in addition to fishing booths, bag toss games, Eppy the clown etc.

Children’s activities begins after the hysterical Costumed Pet Parade traverses the Square early Saturday morning from across the bridge, ending in Cypress Creek Cafe’s backyard. Dog trainers, photos, judging and awarding of prizes will be there. Entry is $5 per pet, payable when you arrive. Admission is free. Email jacque@ wimberleymerchants.com to sign up.

Winter's Eve, A Christmas Festival. The 6th Annual Winter's Eve, A Christmas Festival is scheduled on Saturday, December 14 (the 2nd Saturday) from 5pm-10pm in Downtown Wimberley at the Square – it’s a Rain or Shine event. The new 20X40 tent WMA has added will keep you dry if we are blessed with rain!

The popular Texas Renegade band will perform during the evening with more entertainment to be announced soon.
