Floor plans How are they manufactured?

Crittall Windows has undertaken a major investment in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Witham, Essex, UK. Included in the new factory is a fully integrated IT system that controls the entire process from raw material coming in, through production, to completed windows being shipped out.

This system introduces a new level in product innovation, quality control, internal and external communication, and customer service. The facility also contains Crittall’s in-house testing facility and finishing plant that are among the most advanced in the world.

Crittall products are certified to ISO 9001: 2000 – a quality management standard that is recognised internationally. The company has also recently been awarded an ISO 14001: 2004 accreditation signifying that it operates in an environmentally responsible manner to prevent pollution and reduce waste year on year.

Specification Working with Industrial Window Corp

The steel windows ordered from and supplied by Crittall Windows are installed

by Industrial Window Corp (IWC). Since 1981 IWC has provided survey, expert design, project management and installation of windows to a comprehensive range of building and market types.

IWC’s customer relations and ability to provide and install windows and doors according to specification and design has enabled the company to be recognized as a leader in its industry.

Every project is assigned to a member of IWC’s experienced project management team who guides every aspect of the work, including deadlines and tracking the project from inception to a successful conclusion.

All window systems are installed by IWC’s staff of professional technicians who receive extensive training to handle any type of specification and meet all safety requirements.

IWC works closely with architects, engineers and suppliers to ensure each project is completed in a cost effective, accurate and timely manner On average ten windows can be installed in a period of 15-20 days.

Crittall Windows already has a great deal of experience working in the US, which is a major market for us. We have replaced windows in 300 CPW over the past 10 years, we are working on a range of different projects in NYC, and we are regularly chosen for prestige restoration projects, such as Yale and Princeton Universities. Our patented Fenestra joint was also used in the original windows when 300 CPW was built.

Will I have to vacate my apartment while new windows are installed?

Yes and perhaps no. It is preferable, as the demo process is noisy, dusty, and generates significant debris. The window surrounds are jack-hammered and rebuilt using cement that is mixed in the apartment. Additionally, we require clean space to glaze the windows. In some cases however, owners may choose to replace less than all the units and will have sufficient space to live away from the demo area.

Will the replacement windows work differently from the original windows?

No. They work in exactly the same way.

What type of glass do you use?

All windows are glazed using 1â „4 inch laminated with inherent sound reduction and UV properties.

How long will it take to do the job?

From the moment the order is placed for windows to the time they arrive on site at 300 CPW is a period of 12 – 14 weeks. This time frame will be significantly reduced when bulk orders of specific types are generated by the Board.

After that, typically, the actual time that technicians are in an apartment from removal of old windows to completed installation of new would be 15-20 days for 10 windows.

Typical timescales are: demo half day per opening, cement and flashing half day per opening and removal of the old window and replacement 1 day per opening.

What is to prevent the new windows from corroding in the same way as the originals?

All our windows are hot-dip galvanized meeting US standards to protect against corrosion. They are then chemically cleaned and covered with a polyester powder coating that ensures minimal maintenance is needed thereafter.

What are my responsibilities?

Either you or your contractor will be responsible for all protection. All furniture, shades, blinds, built-in cabinets, duct work, air conditioners, fans etc must be removed before IWC arrives. If you wish to save any existing tile or mirrors within the opening, we suggest that your contractor remove these carefully. Additionally, after we have completed the installation, all interior work (sheet rock, plaster, trim paint etc) is the responsibility of you or your contractor.
