Since its origins, architecture has been linked to art, although sometimes it has been used as a decorative stage, with no more importance in the reflection of the paint. Nevertheless, some artists soon realized the weight that architecture could have on describing characters or convey some emotions on the public.
This study aims to analyze the importance of architecture within the four levels at which it can be employed as an artistic tool: on urban and peripherals landscapes, on interior scenes sawn from the outside and in many times, letting itself be admired from inside by the vouyeristic figure; and also to upgrade the story that is told though the symbolism of certain architectural spaces with the figure of the citizen.
There are many works that deal with this subject, but i decided to take as a reference Edward Hopper's paintings, because he utilizes all the established artistic conventions, as well as many of his own artistic characteristics.
