Patience = 10 Point Buck

Melvin Waller is one of my best friends and also a very skilled and crafty individual. We played high school basketball together and brought home the first Runner-Up (2nd Place) in the state for the Haywood Tomcats in 1974.

Melvin would use things to juggle with three items in the dressing room and no one else could achieve that task on the team but him. When he got tired of basketball he became an excellent tennis player when most blacks had not started playing the game. After he got bored with tennis Melvin took up golfing. Lets just say if we were playing scramble you better have him on your team or you were going to lose.

He has been good at almost every sport he tried. Now that he has retired he is spending his time hunting deer in the Great Outdoors of West Tennesee.

On a recent trip he watched several does and a small buck pass by and continued to be patient. Oh my did it pay off when this huge 10 point strolled right down the same path that the does and small buck had just traveled.

He harvested the big buck and is now dinning on fresh venison from his freezer. The thing about Melven is that as good as he is in sports he is even better at having great character.

JACKSON, Tenn. — A suspect is in custody in connection with a 2017 homicide investigation in Madison County, according to U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller.

Duckworth

In a news release, the U.S. Marshals confirmed the arrest of Donald Wayne Duckworth. The release says Duckworth was indicted by a Madison County grand jury Monday on two counts of second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Ahniya Bryson, of Milan.

Bryson’s body was found near a driveway in east Madison County in 2017.

The release says the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force was requested to assist in locating Duckworth, who was arrested Tuesday at a business in the 500 block of East Main Street in Jackson.

Agents say about a gram of a substance believed to be crack cocaine was found during Duckworth’s arrest, and agents with Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics are investigating the drug charge.

Duckworth is currently held in the Madison County Jail, where he is awaiting a hearing.

U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller released the following statement about the arrest:

“The victim’s family has been waiting for answers for three years,” Miller said. “Because of the commitment of the investigators who worked on this homicide case, the victim and family will not be denied justice. The Marshals Service is proud to assist our partners to ensure the accused is held accountable.”

December 8, 2020Jazmyne Laird - https://www.scoopmemphis.com/news 26-year-old Jodeci Reeves was charged with possession of a firearm during a felony and three counts of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping after police say he held his children and their mother at gunpoint, threatening to shoot them if she did not take him to her other boyfriend’s house.

On November 27th, Memphis Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the residence of 3319 Sinclair Lane. Upon arrival, Breanna Glosson advised she and her children’s father, Jodeci Reeves, as well as her two children, were in her car when they got into an argument about one of her sex partners.

She reported Reeves pulled out two firearms and demanded she drive to the other boyfriend’s house or he was going to shoot her, their children, and then himself. According to the affidavit, she was driving in the area of Thomas Street and SR-300 when Reeves fired his handgun out of the window and said he was going to shoot her in the stomach, whilst she was six months pregnant.

She stated he strangled her while she was driving and then told her to pull over. He proceeded to exit the car and she sped away to her house to call the police. When the officers arrived, they found an Anderson MFG firearm with a drum clip on the passenger floor of the vehicle.

Jodeci Reeves was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm during a felony and three counts of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping. He was released on a $75,000 bond.

JACKSON’S VISIONARIES CLARK SHAW AND JACK SMITH PASSES TO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN Two of Jackson well know visionaries, businessmen, and community leaders have passed and welcomed into the “Kingdom of Heaven” Thomas Clark Shaw, age 66 entered into Heaven’s Glory Wednesday November 25, 2020 in Jackson after a short illness. Being a beloved husband, father and Grandfather he served as a longtime businessman, restauranteur, as well as a local state and national tourism industry leader.

Most knew him from the Casey Jones Museum and the Old Country Store. He is survived by his wife of thirty five years, Juanita Shaw and his children Brooks and Elizabeth. Brooks wife Megan and their daughter Grace Anne.

Clark is also survived by his sister Deborah Shaw Laman and her husband Jon along with a host of dear friends and family.

Thomas Clark Shaw

A lifelong Jacksonian Clark was born on July 22, 1954 and the son of the late Brooks and Anne Shaw. He was laid to rest Saturday December 5 at a private family gravesite. Family is asking anyone wanting to make a contribution in memory of Clark Shaw please give to the charity of your choice. Clark dedicated his life to serving others as I had great honor of knowing him over 50 years and working along side him as ushers at Englewood Baptist Church.

Jack A Smith was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven in December 2, 2020 after a brief illness with cancer.

Jack was born November 1, 1934 and the son of George A. Smith and Elizabeth R Smith. Siblings were twin brother William Jerry and a brother Robert J. Smith. Jack graduated from Jackson High School in 1952 and attended the University of Tennessee, Memphis State graduated from Lambuth College in 1956.

He served in the United States Army National Guard in 1957 for 7 years.

After graduation the twin brothers Jack and Jerry joined their father George A Smith and Sons Funeral Home where they continue to help and have served other over 60 years.

Jack along with his brothers helped develop Highland Memorial Gardens, Maplewood Nursing Home, Laurelwood Healrhcare Center, Metro Storage, Winfield Place, The Fairways, and Raleigh Place.

Jack was a part of the group that brought the Miss Tennessee pageant to Jackson. Jackson was Scottish Rite Mason as a member of the Lodge 45 of Jackson and the Al-Chymia Shrine Temple of Memphis.

He was a member of First Methodist Church his entire life where he served on many committees ans shared his faith. He leaves to cherish his memories loving devoted wife, Judy three daughters. His twin brother Jerry and wife Ruth Ann, first cousin Reggie Smith and wife Mary Louise and many nieces and nephews.

Due to covid 19 a private family service was held at the North Chapel of George A Smith and Sons Funeral home with a private committal held at Ridgecrest Cemetery following.

The world and especially the people of Jackson and West Tennessee have been blessed to have known these two men and the thousands of people they’ve touched. Our community is a better place because of their service to the Lord and people. Their service legacy will continue to live in our hearts .

In the 1500’s houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof... Hence the saying “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That’s how canopy beds came into existence.

Joint Drug Investigation Results In Arrests

GIBSON COUNTY – A joint investigation by Special Agents with the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Tennessee Drug Task Force has resulted in the arrest of individuals on drug-related charges.

On Monday, Agents and investigators executed a search warrant at a home in the 90 block of Roy Crow Road in Gibson County due to suspected drug activity. During the search, methamphetamine, marijuana, and other items consistent with the sale of illegal narcotics were discovered.

Individuals inside the home were taken into custody. TBI charged Jason Koonce (8/23/74) with one count of Sale or Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine) and one count of Sale or Possession of Schedule VI (Marijuana). Bradley Hughes (12/16/76) was also arrested by Agents and charged with one count of Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine). Both were booked into the Gibson County Jail

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Staff Shaley Dawson is the weekend meteorologist for WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News. She joined the team in November of 2020. Shaley is a Tennessee native from Lobelville, Tennessee, where she also attended Perry County High School.

Shaley found her interest in weather while studying ocean acidification in a biology course and soon transferred schools to the University of Tennessee at Martin.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONFIRMS ADDITIONAL COVID-19 DEATH, 6,368 CASES OF COVID-19 IN MADISON COUNTY

JACKSON, Tenn. â&#x20AC;&#x201C; The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department confirms a 64-yearold male died Nov. 24 due to complications from COVID-19. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 115 in Madison County.

The health department received positive test results for 103 more cases of COVID-19. We now have 6,368 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County.

The newest confirmed cases range from ages 1 to 89.

Epidemiology staff are reaching out to these individuals and people who had close contact with these cases.

Twenty-seven Madison County residents are currently hospitalized. Five of those patients are on a ventilator.

JPD Officer Spreads Holiday Cheer From #JacksonTN resident Angela Nelson Parks: "We were at the Flea Market and my Granddaughter saw 2 female police officers and she wanted to meet them! She talked to them, took a couple of pics and expressed her love for Barbie Dolls~ One of the officers said “I’m going to buy you a Barbie Doll and have your Grandmother come pick it up!”

Fast forward to today I brought Serenity down to the police department and there she stood with 2 Barbie Dolls, A Stuffed Llama, A Diary, And a Book bag full of goodies!

Serenity was so excited!

I just want to take the time to express how this touched me and definitely my granddaughter! It may not seem much to you but it was everything to Miss Serenity! My heart is so full!

U S Marshal Tyreece Miller swears in “Special Deputy Marshals”

United States Marshal Tyreece Miller announced he had the honor and privilege of swearing in 5 new members of the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

They will continue to serve in the Shelby County Sheriff Fugitive Apprehension Team (FAT) and also are now officially Special Deputy U S Marshals.

The Marshals and FAT have enjoyed a partnership of getting some of the most dangerous fugitives off the streets.

Since created in 1789, the United States Marshals have sworn in law enforcement and civilians to form a posse who goes after the bad guys. Swearing in these members continues that tradition. Marshal Miller is proud of all the deputies and special deputies on the Task For w who serves community in urban and rural West Tennessee by rounding up fugitives from justice. Marshal Miller is a former Deputy Chief of Police with the City of Jackson.

A special visit from a grateful citizen!

Today, December 8, 2020, Jackson Police Parking Enforcement Officer, Wanda Grimes, received a special visit from a grateful citizen, Ms. Morris. Ms. Morris and Officer Grimes encountered when Officer Grimes assisted Ms. Morris in crossing a busy street. Ms. Morris utilizes the assistance of a motorized wheel chair for her day to day activities.

“You took your time to help me when nobody else would,” said Ms. Morris.

Officer Grimes, your performance reflects great credit upon yourself and the Jackson Police Department.
