Research shows that students who stay active all summer are more prepared when school starts back. Most camps have activities that are fun as well as educational along with field trips and speakers to add enhancement to the summer. Camps help to build character through the staff of caring individuals who give their all to provide the very best experience for participants. Some of the activities include computer games, recreational games, arts and crafts, music, dance, swimming, basketball, dodge ball, tennis and that’s just to name a few. EVERY THING COMMUNICATES. Every thing communicates. That’s especially true in the world of politics. In the political arena there is a psychology of color always in use that effects the voters perception of each candidate. BLUE is associated with traits such as truth, loyalty, security and responsibility while RED is often associated with attention, aggression, and to a great extent symbolizes dominance. This theory played out in the national election debates between Mitt Romney and then-president Obama. In the first debate Romney wore a bright red tie and put on a show of forceful and confident reasoning to carry the night by all accounts. It was no surprise then that President Obama came to the second debate wearing a red tie of his own.Ê Romney, perhaps not wanting to appear overly aggressive, toned it down a bit and showed up in a blue tie. Obama won round 2 and looked more in charge of the floor than in the first debate. I don’t know if the neck wear determined their mood or if the mood determined their neck wear but I do know that close observation of the colors they choose can indicate the tone they are going to strike for the evening. Jackson musician wins 2019 Walmart Associate Talent Search By Malorie Paine- CSENews Local musician William “Tee” Rainer was selected as a winner of the 2019 Walmart Associate Talent Search. Rainer says he walked into the break room one day and saw the sign announcing the talent search. “I thought it was going to be an essay or something,” Rainer said. “It turns out, it was an actual talent search.” Rainer said the submissions were due at midnight on the day he saw the sign, and he contacted his brother to help him record a video that day. Rainer performed “Can You Stand the Rain” for his submission video. He was selected as one of the 30 finalists world-wide, and made it into the voting rounds. Rainer then received enough votes to be selected as one of the 9 winners. William “Tee” Rainer “My first thoughts were ‘oh my goodness,’” he said. “When I submitted it, I started thinking positively about it, and I said ‘I’m going to speak life into it.’ I was just thinking to myself ‘you will win.” Low and behold, I did win. I was surprised, but I was trying not to act so surprised because I had prayed for this.” Rainer had been a Walmart associate for about 5 months when he submitted his application for the talent search. As a father of 4, Rainer said his children were his inspiration in submitting the video. “I want to be in a situation where I can give my kids everything they deserve,” Rainer said. “We’ve gone through a lot of struggles, so I think it’s time for them to live the life they deserve. I also want to be an example for them. There are no limits or limitations. If there is a will there is a way. I used them not as an excuse to not, but as a reason to do it.” Rainer and the other eight finalists traveled to Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. June 3-9, where they shared a stage with acts like Lady Antebellum and One Republic and performed in front of about 20,000 people. “It was one of the biggest performances I have ever been a part of,” he said. “It was crazy. It felt like performing at a Grammy Awards show.” Rainer, who was already a member of a local band, said the performance provided him the opportunity to connect with several industry professionals. He was even invited to work with the production manager on her next event. Rainer said he would tell others who are considering applying for the talent search in the future to “just go for it.” “Don’t second guess yourself,” he said. “If you don’t enter, there’s a 100% chance you won’t get it. If you do, you at least have a chance.” Rainer also hoped to send a message to his own children through winning the talent search. “Be fearless,” he said. “Have a plan, and don’t allow other people’s opinions to deter you from what you want in life. If there’s something you want in life, go get it.”

SEARCH FOR LONGTERM JMC SUPERINTENDENT ON HOLD CONT’D FROM PAGE 3 “The majority of the board members do not want to begin search until the Fall,” Alexander said. Some board members do not believe the board should be waiting though. Morris Merriweather, District 6, made a motion at last week’s board meeting to move the process along. However, not enough board members voted to approve the motion, opting instead to wait. “I think it would bring stability to the district if we had a superintendent in by August 1 when the new teachers come in,” Merriweather said. “There were other board members who felt like that was too soon and that we need to slow it down and take our time.” Merriweather said he disagrees because the priority should be the students. “At the least, we should be accepting applications,” he said. Most education contracts are negotiated during summer months, and this could cause the candidate pool to narrow if the board members do not begin the process. However, Merriweather said he believes that if a candidate wants to come to the district, a summer contract won’t necessarily be an issue. Merriweather said he’s looking for a few specific things in the next candidate, but most importantly, he would like to see someone who has experience in turning a district around and including all students in that plan. The JCM school district is comprised of a majority minority students, and Merriweather wants a candidate in place who will work for all students. Merriweather hopes the board will reconsider taking its time in beginning the process. The next school board meeting is set for June 20 at 6 p.m.
