Atlantic Cape Community College 2015 Paragon Awards #47, Social Media or Online Marketing Campaign

Marketing Campaign Summer Term 2015 Campaign Overview: Faced with a trend in declining enrollment at Atlantic Cape Community College due to a number of factors, including a declining high school population and severe economic hardship due to the closure of several casinos in the Atlantic City region, the college’s marketing department took a new approach to advertising the summer 2015 term. Since, historically, summer semester is largely made up of returning spring Atlantic Cape students and visiting students from nearby colleges and universities, an emphasis was placed on increasing these numbers. We also looked at traditional and creative ways to reach the Atlantic and Cape May County population. Research: With the help of Atlantic Cape’s Institutional Research department, the marketing department examined the trends of visiting students per semester over the last four years. Information gathered and analyzed during that time period included the number of students enrolled per semester at Atlantic Cape from colleges in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, along with listings of the most popular courses per college. Research was also completed on the number of emails students were willing to receive from Atlantic Cape and the feasibility of posting on visiting students’ college Facebook accounts. Planning: Armed with resulting research, the marketing department took nearly half the budget allocated for marketing summer term and concentrated on ways to increase visiting students. Working with a local agency, Townsquare Media, a digital plan using the following components was developed: - Advanced Audience Targeting – Using third party data segments to identify and reach our exact target audiences geo-targeting Atlantic and Cape May counties - Contextual Targeting – Using keywords/phrases for summer recruitment to reach highly specific audiences in our consuming custom-defined topics - Hyper local mobile – Targeting select colleges using the GPS functionality in smartphones - Facebook posts – Facebook posts on select college pages announcing the most popular classes taken at Atlantic Cape Additional marketing components were also created to reach specific areas within our target market: - Press Releases – distributed to media outlets in Atlantic and Cape May counties

this summer to accommodate a range of lifestyles. Whether you’re a current student, recent high school graduate or attending a four-year college and home for the summer, you can earn credits toward your degree during Atlantic Cape’s summer sessions. In addition to traditional classes, students can also make an ocean-side dock their classroom this summer through an opportunity to participate in a scientific research study. The course will support a research project by Dr. Joshua Lord at Bates College in Maine on invasive species in marine coastal waters. Two Atlantic Cape professors are participating in the study and have created a field course for students to gain hands-on experience. Students must have completed one college-level science class. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. Other summer classes include: Art Appreciation, Intro to Ceramics, College Algebra, Composition I, Intro to Criminal Justice, Earth Science, Elementary Spanish I, General Psychology, Intro to Computers, Principles of Sociology, Public Speaking, and U.S. History II.
