There has been so much to discover about Missouri Valley. It’s so exciting to see Missouri Valley’s Erie street have new businesses open their doors in this past year. Small business is the backbone of our community, as well as it is for the nation’s economy. The Chamber is happy to promote and support these businesses to help them be successful.

Success leads to growth, and that’s the direction Missouri Valley is headed. The continued planning for the Hwy 30 bypass, and it’s possible completion by 2029, will bring with it, many new opportunities for businesses. So let’s get ready!

I am privileged to lead the Missouri Valley Chamber as President. My incentive to join the Chamber was twofold. I wanted to learn more about our business community as I am an Enrolled Agent for the local franchise-owned H&R Block. Becoming involved with the school and activities for my children was also important to me. We all want to live in a community that we can be proud of!

The board members work hard throughout the year to put on various functions and support our local businesses and community. In the last few years, I have really seen positive growth with the Chamber in all of the activities we put on and support. Everyone truly wants to ensure we have a community we can take pride in. I am glad to have joined such a wonderful team.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the individuals, businesses and community organizations who have shared their time and appreciation of the Missouri Valley Chamber of Commerce. Without your continued support and involvement, we would not be able to continue to grow and better our community. Thank you for making Missouri Valley a community we are proud of!

Valley Drug participates in Take Away, a statewide program utilizing community pharmacies as take-back sites for Iowans to safely dispose of unused or expired medications that may be dangerous to others and to the environment if not disposed of properly.

A Company Built on Customer Service

Henry Gingerich began his business in 2016, after spending years as a builder for others.

While employed in Kansas, Gingerich met fellow builder Kevin Glassburn and the two became friends. After Gingerich went a different direction, Glassburn needed his help.

“Kevin called me and needed a subcontractor to put up buildings so I moved to Iowa,” he said. “I decided I didn’t like being a subcontractor; I hurt my back and didn’t have the ability to build anymore. I worked in sales for a while, and didn’t like that, so Kevin and I discussed possibly doing our own thing.”

The timing wasn’t right for Glassburn, but Gingerich began anyway, and after one year, Glassburn joined.

Originally they opened an office in Blair, Neb., as it was between where each of them lived, but they began searching for the perfect location.

They found their property at the right time, and in the right place – Missouri Valley.

“It is the perfect location for us. It is close to the interstate and Highway 30,” Glassburn said.

They built their business the way they build for others, with the customer’s needs in mind.

Their team is constructed of great people, including family and friends, who specialize in sales, design, and construction, to name a few.

“We have so many great people here; we have such a great team,” Henry said. “We have family and close friends involved. It makes coming to work everyday fun. I truly don’t feel like I am at work most days.”

Kevin agreed that work is fun and their team is a second family.

This team works together on projects ranging in size from small personal garages to massive shouses on acreages and even business buildings such as storage units and more.

“We do a lot of custom stuff – whatever you like,” Henry said.

They have expanded the company with offices in Wisconsin, Colorado, and two in Iowa. The company serves a large portion of the Midwest, including Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Michigan.

They have also expanded their line of service to include mechanics for the public.

“We have really started rolling in the shop back there,” Kevin said.

That sounds like a lot to be proud of, but what Gingerich and Glassburn are most proud of is their customer service.

From the first call until the job is done, the Gingerich Structures team is there.

“Being able to be reached is just super important to people,” Kevin said.

Missouri Valley QUIRKS

Every town has its quirks, and Missouri Valley is no different. If you are new to the area the locals might say something that seems a little quirky and unique, but confusing nonetheless. Here is a list to help you out.

• The Dips refers to the twisty hills of Liberty Ave., once Longview Road crosses the northern border of Missouri Valley city limits. If you enjoy roller coaster roads, this one is for you.

• The Bottoms might refer to the Missouri Bottoms Wetland Area, a conservation area two miles northwest of Missouri Valley on Isles Ave. Locals, however, use the term, ‘the bottoms’ to mean any low-lying area west of Missouri Valley.

• The Good Enough Road is officially named F58 or 296th St. It branches off U.S. Highway 30 northeast of Missouri Valley, crosses the railroad tracks then the Boyer River and will eventually take motorists to Persia. Why do locals call it The Good Enough Road – I don’t know, but I guess it is good enough.

• The Mouse Hole isn’t a local watering hole, and it’s not necessarily a rodent home. It actually refers to a diminutive underpass south of Missouri Valley on state Highway 183 – also the old Lincoln Highway, a state Heritage Byway – in which many tractor-trailers have become hopelessly lodged – despite signs warning of the short height of the railroad bridge.

Tree Dump

1. The Tree Dump is for properties located within City Limits only.

2. All Trees and vegetation must be from properties within City Limits.

3. Only Trees, Grass, Leaves, and Garden Waste. No Appliances, Plastic Bags, Garbage, Concrete, or Lumber.

4. Only dump in the designated areas.

5. Lock the gate when you leave.

6. Keys must be returned before 5 p.m. the same day.

7. No keys will be checked out over the weekend without the Street Superintendent’s permission. Misuse of the rules will take away your privileges. Please help take care of the Missouri Valley Tree Dump.
