Doncaster Foodbank is a registered charitable organisation providing emergency food parcels to people facing hardship in Doncaster and the surrounding areas

Doncaster Foodbank has a warehouse in Kirk Sandall where they receive and process donations and three sites with four sessions a week.

In these sessions they provide emergency food parcels to the visitors who have been properly assessed by registered referral agencies.

Furthermore, they provide signposting and work collaboratively with other referral agencies

to provide the best on-site advice and assistance to the visitors who are facing hardship.

They have approximately 80 volunteers across all sites including drivers for collections and logistics and they work closely with a range of local businesses, and religious and community groups for monetary and food donations.

The charity was set up by the original Board of Trustees in 2013.

If someone needs their services, they first need to be assessed by a referral agency. A referral agency is a registered charitable organisation or a local authority that has trained staff that can professionally assess the situation of the individual applying for a food voucher. If the situation of the individual is that they cannot feed themselves for a variety of reasons, then they are issued an emergency food voucher code plus session information. The individual attends a session, and once ID is checked and the code is verified, they receive their emergency food parcel.

Keith Rosson, Project Manager spoke to Doncaster Echo about their future plans: “Our plans consist of securing more regular

donations for our visitors. We aim to provide them with a balance of food, and this includes receiving items from all food groups. To do this we need donations from regular and reliable suppliers. If we do not meet these demands we need to purchase stock. All stock is purchased from a budget from monetary donations, so attaining and maintaining contributions from local organisations is invaluable.

If you would like to help Doncaster Foodback, they are always in need of supplies. Their requirements for donations change weekly depending on the donations received. Here are

some items that are always requested:-

• Soup

• Tinned meat

Tinned spaghetti

• Tinned tomatoes and vegetables

• Juice

• UHT milk

• Cooking sauces

• Cereal and microwave pasta/rice

Successful darts marathon at The Hawthorn Social & Recreation Club in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support

The Hawthorn Social & Recreation Club in Cantley completed its incredible 24/7 darts marathon which ran non-stop from Sunday 17th August to Sunday 24th August

Launched just six weeks ago by a couple of Hawthorn darts players who wanted to set themselves a challenge, it soon grew into a major community event.

In the build-up, the challenge gained recognition from some of the biggest names in darts, including Stephen Bunting, John MacDonald, Russ Bray and Bobby George, who all sent in their support.

Each darts player created an online profile on the Macmillian website where people could donate. The Hawthorn Social & Recreation Club also had collection buckets on the bar throughout. The marathon saw the week divided into six-hour shifts, with players aiming to hit at least 50,000 points per shift.

The Cantley community pulled together with

locals providing food, drinks and donationseven those who had never stepped foot in the club stopped by to show their support.

Despite sore backs, knees, wrists and elbows, every player honoured their shifts and dug deep, knowing every dart was for a great cause.

Club president Roy Firbank threw the final three darts with a staggering 2,510,737 points, smashing the original 1.4 million target.

The event looks set to raise around £7,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a phenomenal achievement in just six weeks of planning.

The Hawthorn Club would like to thank darts players, bar staff, its committee, local businesses and the wider community for their overwhelming generosity and support.
