AMANDA CHRISTINE COX

Amanda Christine Cox has lived in suburbia most of her life and the environmental and social patterns have been ingrained into her interior chaos. Her storyteller skills were honed at an early age by her artistic and creative expression, through the mediums of painting, drawing, puppet and model-making. Her creative interests then shifted toward the written and spoken word, in the form of poetry, singing and acting. Her gift for performing on stage is still utilised today when she uses her creativity and spontaneity to create audience-grabbing scenes in improvised comedy shows in Cheltenham.

She trained in Radio and TV Show creation, but after ten years of sporadic button pushing, she felt the pull towards her creative core and in her mid-thirties, she enrolled in University, and completed a Foundation in Art and Design, then a BA, and finally, an MA in Fine Art. Amanda’s influences are astrophysics, psychology, psychedelia, op art, 80s electronic and acid house music, and children’s television. Amanda has ADHD which causes her style to shift frequently and she can become hyperfocussed on one particular subject before moving onto the next.

Amanda revels in the joy of pure, bright colours and dazzling visual effects. She likes the plasticity of acrylic paints and joyfully uses them in abundance. Amanda has a solo show coming up from the 9th - 16th November at Islington Arts Factory entitled “We Are All Made Of Stars” which is a quote from Moby that sums up her welcoming approach to the diversity of humanity.
