Does it add weight to the roof like slate? Brava Cedar Shake and Brava Slate are significantly lighter than natural slate While natural slate can weigh up to 1,500 lbs per square (100 sq ft ), Brava Slate weighs only about 300-340 lbs per square. Brava Cedar Shake and Brava Slate do not require additional structural reinforcement, making them an option for new construction and reroofing projects.

Would Staggered vs. Straight installation affect anything? The installation pattern, whether staggered or straight, does not impact the performance or durability of the roof It is purely an aesthetic choice. Staggered patterns offer a more rustic, traditional look, while straight patterns provide a more uniform and structured appearance. Either option can be installed according to the project’s design preferences. Staggered installation will require more material per square due to various exposures (some lower than the 10” maximum).

Do we really need snow guards? In regions prone to heavy snowfall, snow guards are highly recommended. Brava tiles, like other roofing materials, allow snow to accumulate, and snow guards help prevent large amounts of snow from sliding off the roof at once, protecting gutters, landscaping, and individuals below from injury or damage.

Is Brava slippery? Brava tiles are textured to mimic the appearance of natural materials like slate and shake, which also helps reduce slipperiness However, as with most roofing materials, caution should be used when walking on the roof, particularly when wet, icy, or dirty.

What are solids, and why do they matter? Optional Solid Slates do not have structural ribbing and are solid throughout. They are heavier than standard Field Slates and are typically used at valleys for a natural appearance at cut edges

Does the Brava roof system color fade? Brava roof systems are made with mineral pigments that infuse the material with color throughout. This, along with UV inhibitors built into the formula, ensures that the color remains vibrant for years, even when exposed to sunlight.

Are there harmful chemicals used in Brava products? No, Brava tiles are made from recycled, non-toxic materials They do not contain harmful chemicals and are fully recyclable at the end of their lifespan, contributing to a sustainable and eco-friendly roofing option.

Is Brava as good an insulator as cedar? Brava roof systems provide excellent insulation properties, are energy efficient, and contribute to a comfortable indoor temperature by reflecting solar heat and reducing heat transfer into the home The Cool Roof Rating Council has tested and certified Brava systems as Title 24 compliant
