espite the remarkable advances of the past 60 years, we have barely begun to tap the potential of information technology to transform the way enterprises work and how people work with them. Enterprise Architecture (EA) and this book are about how to achieve those long-sought yet seemingly ephemeral goals of alignment, agility, simplicity, speed, and all the others on our wish lists. The SIM Guide to Enterprise Architecture is a project of the Society for Information Management’s Enterprise Architecture Working Group. The book is about bridging the gap between strategy and implementation, and everything in between. It’s a collection of writings from leading authorities, aimed at IT and business professionals, woven together around the vision of creating and managing the Information Age enterprise. The book includes insights from top EA thought leaders, academics, and practitioners including John Zachman, Jeanne Ross, Larry DeBoever, George Paras, Randy Hite, Leon Kappelman, and others. The SIM Guide to Enterprise Architecture supplies a solid understanding of key concepts for effectively leveraging EA to redesign business processes, integrate services, and become an Information Age enterprise. Beginning with a look at current theory, the book discusses the practical application of enterprise architecture, includes a wealth of best practices, resources, references, and an in-depth case study, as well as a survey of IT organizations to provide important metrics for evaluating progress and success. All author royalties go to support the work of the not-for-profit SIM EA Working Group.

IN THIS ISSUE THE SIM GUIDE TO ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE Presents insight into enterprise architecture from pioneers in the field, including John Zachman Provides IT managers with industry benchmarks on enterprise architecture and related IT capabilities Includes case studies illustrating industry-leading practices, tools, and processes Examines the relationship between business processes and enterprise architecture
