31st October, 2017 Reflection 'I am the Resurrection and the Life, says the Lord. Whoever believes in me, even though he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will not die forever.' O God, glory of the faithful and life of the just, by the Death and Resurrection of whose Son we have been redeemed, look mercifully on your departed servants, that, just as they professed the mystery of our resurrection, so they may merit to receive the joys of eternal happiness. AMEN (All Saints Day Nov 1, All Souls Day Nov 2)

Dear Parents and Students, VCE Exams Good luck to all VCE students on their exams starting tomorrow with English. Its been a big build up to the exams so lets hope any anxiety about performance works in a positive way on the day. Staff Professional Learning Day On Monday 23rd October teachers and student support officers participated in a professional learning day led by Glen Pearsal. Glen is a dynamic presenter whose passion is to create engaging and effective classroom practice. He is a Board Member of VCAA and a successful author with many publications in print. Glen works extensively throughout Australia as an educational consultant and presenter specialising in classroom management, engagement and workload reduction for teachers. During the day, Glen focused on techniques that may be used in a classroom to make learning more effective and engaging. New methods of running a revision lesson, questioning techniques that see all students respond, an exploration of making a rubric more relevant to students and simple classroom tips and tricks were demonstrated. It was a learning rich day for all involved and no doubt your students would have experienced some of this learning in their classes during this past week. Mark Sheehan Principal

From the Deputy Principal (Staff) 2018 Subject Selections Year 8 and 9 students received their 2018 subject selection letters last week. I realise that some students/families may be disappointed that not all offered electives are running but student selections decide what classes are viable or not and this varies each year with the particular strengths and interests of each cohort. Any change request must be lodged by the end of this week. Students of families that have not completed re-enrolment for 2018 will not receive their confirmation letters until re-enrolment is completed. Languages News On Friday 27th October the senior Italian students were very fortunate to hear Archie Fusillo’s presentation on Italian Migration. He is also a notable author, who has written many successful novels about adolescence and how his Italian family shaped the person he is today, whilst growing up in North Fitzroy. The students were captivated by his stories, in particular how Italian migrants, who settled in Australia for over 20 years, later making the excruciating decision to go back to their homeland; as a result of missing family or not feeling like they truly belonged in Australia. The stories were both melancholic and uplifting at the same time. Prof Claudia Russo Head of Languages Domain
