EstatePlanning AwarenessWeek

OCTOBER 16 - 20, 2023

When you begin creating or updating your estate plan, you’ll likely spend the bulk of your time on these two points: determining your assets and deciding which people and charities will receive these items after your lifetime. But have you given any thought to your online legacy and passing on your digital assets?

What Are Digital Assets?

Examples of digital assets include:

Social networking accounts

Email accounts

Shopping accounts

Online banking and billing accounts (including any cryptocurrency accounts)

Websites and blogs

Photo- and video-sharing accounts

Music and gaming accounts

How You Can Safeguard Your Digital Assets

Make a list of your digital assets and passwords. Include your usernames, passwords, and security questions and answers for your digital accounts.

Find a safe place to store this information. Store the list of your digital assets and passwords in an easy to access location such as a locked file cabinet or an encrypted shared drive. Or look into companies that specialize in the digital estate planning process You can also contact your financial advisor They may have software that can be used for digital planning purposes

Make a plan for your digital assets Each asset may need to be managed differently, so it is important to make a guide outlining what happens with each one

Consult your estate planning attorney State laws differ in this area Your attorney will draft an estate plan that addresses your digital assets You may wish to name a digital executor the person you entrust to carry out your wishes for your digital assets

Does Your Password Pass the Test?

Sequential numbers. Birthdays. One password to rule them all. These are signs of poor password management. And most of us are probably guilty of at least one of these. Being smart about your digital footprint starts with knowing how to protect your sign-on information.

Consider the following when creating and updating your passwords.

The longer and more complicated, the better (as long as you remember it).

Don’t recycle passwords.

Don’t pick easy ones.

Use a password manager, such as Keeper, LastPass or Dashlane. Consider two-factor authentication, which requires a password and a second form of identification, such as a code sent to your smartphone.

Who Gets the Passwords?

They may not seem like the most valuable assets to inherit, but passwords are the keys to your digital life Determine who should be your “data beneficiary” a trusted friend or family member who can access your information

Gender,Sexual,& RacialJustice

Gender, Sexual, and Racial Justice Graduate Certificate

Overview:

The Gender, Sexual, and Racial Justice Certificate (GSRJ) emphasizes the development of students’ ability to use the tools of GSRJ scholarship to advance gender, sexual, and racial justice in their communities. The certificate consciously attends to the intersection of gender, sexual, and racial justice with environmental justice and wellbeing While interdisciplinary, it is grounded in the content and methods of theological studies. This certificate both encourages students to engage their studies with a focus on the social contexts directly relevant to their ministerial work and invites students to develop an interculturally competent critical framework that promotes gender, sexual, and racial justice for all peoples

Timeline & Requirements:

This Certificate can be completed in as little as 18 months

Admission to the Graduate Certificate Studies program requires a completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.75/4.0.

Key Program Elements:

An introductory and intersectional course that critically addresses the study of earth justice and spiritualities, including ecotheologies, together with the critical study of women, genders, sexualities, and race and racism

Drawing on both historically significant and cutting-edge theological and social scholarship, GSRJ curricular programs prepare graduates to meaningfully address gender, sexual, and racial justice in their own contexts, understand how religion is sometimes explicitly or implicitly appropriated to perpetuate violence, and build up their own communities on theological foundations that resist such appropriation

Since dismantling systems of oppression requires building new systems and strengthening ancestral ones that promote just flourishing, the GSRJ curriculum emphasizes the development of students’ practical imagination, inviting students to articulate what just and vibrant futures looks like for women (with emphasis on women of color), LGBTQ communities (with emphasis on LGBTQ communities of color), and survivors (with emphasis on survivors of color) It builds students’ intellectual and embodied skills for making these futures manifest

Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School announces its new Tuition Subscription Plan. CRCDS is one of a few seminaries in the country, accredited by the Association of Theological Schools that offers this kind of tuition payment plan. Due to the generosity of our donors, any student enrolled in a graduate certificate, or a degree program can participate in the $300 monthly tuition plan.

Tuition costs are offset by the generosity of CRCDS donors and the scholarship funds they provide. Institutional aid is applied to everyone, making the $300/month payment, possible.

TSP Program benefits:

Allows for monthly budgeting

Allows for the potential to decrease overall student debt

Allows for focus on studies as opposed to finances

At CRCDS we understand that our students are mostly bi-vocational and second career and already engaged actively in ministry, juggling mortgages, childcare, and other priorities, or that some may already be at their federal aid loan limits. This program allows a student to include their tuition payment in their monthly budget. This program also has the potential to alleviate some of the burden of tuition costs that contributes to student debt. Rather than focusing on cost, the tuition subscription plan allows our students to concentrate on their theological journey.

CRCDS students will be eligible to subscribe to the Tuition Subscription Plan (TSP) starting Fall, 2021 semester. The subscription plan allows students to take a maximum number of courses per academic year, as outlined below, and pay $300/month for a 12-month period that coincides with the school’s fiscal year.

Current students enrolled in the TSP will begin payment plans in July 2021. Black ReligiousThought and Life Program at CRCDS

Black Religious Thought & Life (BRTL) at CRCDS is rooted in Black prophetic faith traditions and committed to liberation, equity, and inclusion. BRTL exists to provide opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and community members to deepen their understanding of Black religious thought, life, and experiences.

BRTL is also curricular in nature and offers a wholistic approach to the study of Black religious thought and life by focusing on:

Developing an appreciation for historical and contemporary religious beliefs and practices integral to Black life

Cultivating opportunities for spiritual formation grounded in Black religious traditions

Providing justice-focused leadership in Black religious communities and faith-based institutions

Gender, Sexual, and Racial Justice Program at CRCDS

The Gender, Sexual, and Racial Justice (GSRJ) program exists to promote justice in gendered, sexual, and racial terms within communities of faith, communities of academic scholarship, the community of learners that calls CRCDS home, and CRCDS’s local geographic community of Rochester, New York.

The GSRJ curricular program focuses on: equipping students to use the resources of theological and multireligious education. recognizing, analyzing, and intervening in forms of violence and oppression that target women, LGBTQ+ persons, and survivors of sexual violence — particularly women, LGBTQ+ persons, and survivors of color.

drawing on both historically significant and contemporary scholarship and activism to assess the specific ways that violence against such persons is manifesting in their own social contexts. developing students’ capacity to create intellectually rich, concrete plans to interrupt, challenge, and transform the systems giving rise to that violence.
