MARCH 2025

Message from the Head of Prep

We had a fantastic start to the week with a cups and awards assembly in the morning and a memorable Spring Soiree in the evening. As Mr Everitt commented at the time, it is amazing to see such dedication and I echo his words of thanks to our Cranmore families for supporting the children in all their endeavours.

The Upper Prep Spelling Bee reached its conclusion and it is fair to say that the children and staff were in awe of the level of competition. In the final, the children were asked to spell a variety of challenging words and then give the definitions. In the last round, to decide the overall winner, the children were asked to spell the set words backwards! Year 4 enjoyed a theatre trip to see ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ this week.

Ahead of Mothering Sunday, our EYFS children put on a touching Mother’s Day assembly. Nursery sang a beautiful rendition of ‘It’s Mother’s Day’ and Reception shared their favourite things about their own mothers which ranged from ‘I love my mummy because she gives me lots of cuddles’, to ‘I love my mummy because she gives me sweets!’.

I wish everyone a restful Easter break.

Mr Heaver

Spring Soiree

My congratulations to all those Upper Prep and Senior musicians who performed so brilliantly at the Spring Soiree. The quality of musicianship never fails to impress me.

Mr Harris, Director of Music

In Friday’s assembly we were delighted to announce the winners of the British Science Week poster competition. Congratulations to all entrants; the standards were very high across all ages.

The following boys submitted entries on a range of topics, addressing the theme of ‘Change and Adapt’ in Science. They all received a science book prize and will be entered into the national competition to be judged in the summer term.

Stefan G – Year 3

Basty B – Year 5

Seb K – Year 6

Ethan A – Year 6

The overall winner was Rafferty C-D in Year 6, whose depiction of the Development of the Periodic Table was creative, informative and visually stimulating.

Spelling Bee

The launch of the Spelling Bee Competition was a great success, with all the boys in the Upper Prep taking part in the first two rounds. The final for Years 5 and 6 took place last Thursday in the auditorium, after the preceding rounds left only five super spellers in the competition. It went down to the wire with Willsby and Arthur, the two joint winners, competing for the cup by spelling the selected words backwards.

Year 4 had their final the following day in the library. After a nervous start, the standard of spelling hit an all-time high. Alfie was the outright winner, but the three finalists pushed him hard, and all the contestants redeemed themselves magnificently. Thank you to our judges, Mr Chapman and Mr Heaver, who remained focused and calm in a highly competitive situation.

Year 2 Come and See

It was lovely to welcome our families from Year 2 last Friday afternoon for our ‘Come and See’ book look. The children loved sharing what progress they had made in their work and their beautiful classrooms.

Mother’s Day Assembly

We were delighted to welcome so many Mummies to our EYFS Mother’s Day assembly on Tuesday. The Nursery sang a beautiful rendition of ‘It’s Mother’s Day’ and promised to be very good on Sunday! Reception also shared all the things they loved about their Mummies, which included ‘they give the best cuddles’, ‘she always makes me feel special’ and ‘she lets me play with dinosaurs and snakes!’.

Nursery News

Congratulations to our Nursery pupils who performed so well in the Mother’s Day assembly! At Forest School the Nursery children made Easter cards using the recycled paper and seeds that they had prepared previously. They also enjoyed the Easter tradition of hot cross buns; Ellie toasted these on the fire.

Lower Prep Cups and Awards Assembly

The Lower Prep gathered excitedly on Monday for our termly Cups and Awards assembly. We are very proud of all the children for working so hard this term. It was a very special time to come together and celebrate their achievements.

Year 3’s India Topic

Year 3 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed their topic about India this term. To mark the end of term, we organised a full afternoon of activities to celebrate India. The pupils started with some yoga and some energetic Bollywood dancing, following the moves on a video. Then they used the VR headsets to view some buildings, landmarks and other common sights in India in 3D. Following that, the pupils were given the opportunity to try a selection of Indian food and then create their own menu. They finished the afternoon by designing their own Mehndi patterns. It was a very enjoyable afternoon for everyone and the perfect way to end our topic.

Year 3’s Forest School Trip

The weather was beautiful for Year 3's visit to Forest School last Thursday. There was a real feel of Spring in the air! They enjoyed exploring seasonal changes since their last visit, spotting shoots, flowers and buds. had the opportunity to make a plant sign from a sawn disc of wood.

Year 2’s Trip to the Roald Dahl Museum

Year 2 had an amazing outing to the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden, where they took part in an engaging character crafting workshop. The sun was shining brightly, making it the perfect day for a picturesque stroll through the village. The children enthusiastically walked to Roald Dahl’s grave and explored the local church, connecting the clues they discovered along the way to the various stories he wrote. It was a memorable day filled with creativity and literary adventure!

Daffodils in Year 2

Year 2 have loved learning about William Wordsworth and reading his poem "Daffodils".They read other daffodil poems and then wrote their own acrostic poems all about daffodils neatly into theirEaster cards. They then looked at daffodils closely, looking at the lines, shapes, and colours in order to create these wonderful paintings.

Roman Games in Year 5

Linked to their History topic, 5NC enjoyed making and playing various games with a Roman theme, including Roman Monopoly, Roman Battleship and Roman World Domination.

An Easter-themed Feast

Our fabulous caterers, Harrisons, have once again outdone themselves with a stunning array of delicious and

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

A Reading from the Gospel of John

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’ He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and agitated. Then he said to them, ‘I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me.’ And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what you want.’ Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, ‘So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial.’

Reflection

As we draw to the end of another busy term it is important that we pause and give thanks for all we have received. There will have been high points and low points in our term. Things we have enjoyed and things we have found difficult. Place all things into the hands of the Father who loves us and knows us. As we journey home and into the holidays don’t forget that we are also journeying towards Easter. This is a holy and important time of the year. Make an effort to pray each day. If there is anything troubling you place it into Jesus’ hands. Do not be afraid; he walks alongside you.

Concluding Prayer

Father in heaven, when I cannot find you, and am not sure that you are there, give me eyes of faith. Help me understand that you are always faithful, always present, holding me and sustaining me. Amen
