Message from the Head of Prep

We have been treated to a wonderful week of music, sports and drama.

Monday’s Upper Prep piano concert saw some amazing performances. Well done to all involved. Their dedication to music is really beginning to pay dividends.

Our EYFS children got the first of our Sports Days underway on Wednesday morning with some very creatively named races. Years 1, 2 and 3 had their turn on Thursday morning and there were some incredibly closely contested events. In the afternoon, we saw Years, 4, 5 and 6 wrap it all up with Stokes House prevailing to lift the trophy. As Mr Hodgson said at the time, the way the children supported each other was very special: celebrating one another’s success and consoling those who faced disappointment. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children.

Year 5 made a very enjoyable trip to the Polka Theatre, before Year 6 brought a taste of the West End to Cranmore with their amazing production of Shrek: The Musical. Enormous credit must go to all of the actors, back stage crew and tech support that went into making this a night to remember. Thank you to Miss Gallop for bringing this all together and putting a smile on the faces of the audience.

Mr Heaver

Yesterday was the performance of the Year 6 production of 'Shrek: The Musical'. It was a wonderful evening showcasing not only the wealth of talent amongst our Year 6 students, but also the dazzling costumes and set kindly lent to us by St. Teresa’s. The performances and songs wowed our capacity audience as they laughed and applauded their way through the evening. Students performed with precision and pride in their roles, the backstage team were steadfast in their focus in scene changes and, with a solid community effort, created a spectacular atmosphere for those in attendance.

We are delighted that so many parents could join us for what was a magical evening of big, mean ogres, talking donkeys, wistful fairytale creatures and miniscule lords. We look forward to next year when we get the chance to do it all again!

Year 6 Trip to Arundel Castle

On Friday 20th June, Year 6 enjoyed an exciting trip to Arundel Castle. The day was filled with exploration as pupils stepped back in time to discover the rich history of one of England’s most impressive medieval castles.

Highlights included a Battle of Hastings re-enactment, climbing atop the Norman keep and exploring the interior rooms. The visit brought their history studies to life and sparked lots of curiosity and discussion. A big thank you to the guides who made the day so memorable!

Mr Cross

Year 6 Trip to Arundel Castle

Year 6 pupils from Cranmore and St Teresa's had a fantastic time watching Ticket pour l’espace week, a lively and engaging French/English play that took them on an intergalactic adventure! The performance not only entertained but also provided a fun and interactive way to reinforce their French language skills.

A special mention goes to the brave pupil volunteers who threw themselves into their roles with great enthusiasm and confidence their energy and willingness to participate made the experience even more memorable. Bravo to our budding linguists and performers!

Year 5 Theatre Trip

Year 5 had wonderful Wednesday morning when they went to see ‘The Boy with Wings’. True to children's theatre performances, it was filled with terrible jokes, loud rap music and over-the-top entertaining acting.

Unsurprisingly, the boys loved it and even Dr Verny White could be seen humming and tapping her foot along to the cool tunes.

Gardening Club News

In April, the Gardening Club planted several broad bean plants, kicking off an exciting growing season. Since then, students have been working hard to care for the plants, diligently weeding and watering the garden to ensure healthy growth. Their efforts have bean incredible as they watched the broad beans sprout and flourish. It has taken patience and dedication, but now the students are full of beanstalk-sized excitement as they have taken home the harvested fruits of their hard work.

Year 4 Trip to Hampton Court

Last Friday, Year 4 had a fantastic day exploring Hampton Court Palace. The boys successfully navigated their way to the centre of the famous maze and made it out again with smiles all round! During the visit, they deepened their understanding of using historical sources and had the chance to explore various parts of the palace itself.

After enjoying a picnic lunch on the lawns, the highlight of the afternoon was a special session on the Real Tennis Courts. The boys had great fun trying out the sport for themselves and were then treated to a live game, rounding off a memorable and enriching day.

Year 4 Flamenco Workshop

On Tuesday, the Modern Foreign Languages department organised an exciting Flamenco Workshop that included the Year 4 girls and boys from across the Trust. The making of tissue paper corsages or hair pieces, learning various clapping techniques and rhythms, and a story, all led to the finale of a Flamenco dance. The children had lots of fun experiencing this bit of Spanish culture.

Upper Prep Piano Concert

Congratulations to all the Upper Prep pianists who performed so beautifully on Monday. It was a joy to hear them playing with such enthusiasm and dedication to their instruments. Bravo! Thank you to Mr Harris for organising the concert, and to our fantastic team of peripatetic piano teachers, Mrs Geddes, Mrs Mallin, and Mrs Weston.

Year 3 Trip to Forest School

On Thursday of last week, Year 3 pupils enjoyed their final trip to Forest School. The boys were allowed to explore the site and choose activities of their choice. They were treated to delicious s’mores cooked on the fire and then, due to the hot weather, they had the chance to be cooled down with a brief spray from the hose!

Ski Club Update

As this year's ski club draws to an end, I would like to thank all of those pupils who have taken part in the club this year. Each skier has made huge progress and many have also represented the school in a number of races over the year, some of these at national level. The ski club is always growing, and it would be fantastic to see more new faces when the club restarts on 8th September at Sandown. The club is open to students in Years 2 to 11 and welcomes all abilities. There is transport available for those in Year 3 and above. We also offer a free taster session for those new to skiing and to those who have not been a part of the ski club before, even if they are experienced skiers.

Please look out for the ski club letters in this week’s School Post. Should you wish to sign your child up for the club, please email max.barson@cranmore.org and to book a place on the bus please email transport@cranmore.org.

I look forward to seeing our pupils on the slopes again in September. Have a lovely summer!

Personal Survival in Swimming Lessons

Pupils from Years 4 to 6 took have taken part in their personal survival topic during swimming lessons over the last two weeks. The pupils practised self-rescue skills and learnt basic rescue techniques along with discussing safety around water and drowning prevention. The pupils enjoyed scenarios where they took part in activities including rope throwing and reach rescues, and they learnt the technique of putting a casualty into the recovery position. The pupils were very engaged throughout the lessons - well done all!

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

A reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Galatians

You are, all of you, sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. All baptised in Christ, you have all clothed yourselves in Christ, and there are no more distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, but all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Merely by belonging to Christ you are the posterity of Abraham, the heirs he was promised.

Reflection

On Sunday, as a church, we celebrated the great feast of Corpus Christi. This is a feast that celebrates the very real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Here are some reflective words from Pope Leo XIV about Corpus Christi:

In saving the crowds from hunger, Jesus proclaims that he will save everyone from death. That is the mystery of faith, which we celebrate in the sacrament of the Eucharist. For just as hunger is a sign of our radical needs in this life, so breaking bread is a sign of God’s gift of salvation.

Prayer

We continue to pray for peace in our world. Let us recite and echo the prayer of St Francis as we say together:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is error, the truth; where there is doubt, the faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

Amen

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other."
