Message from the Head of Prep

Prep started our EST Internet Safety Week with a fascinating assembly about the use of Artificial Intelligence. Along with promoting the importance of staying safe online, Mr Peach shared some incredible examples of how AI is currently being used. There were a lot of volunteers to take part in the demonstration of machine learning, showing how computers can identify the images we create.

The children are well settled into their school routine now and the classrooms have been busy with new learning experiences. Reception pupils have loved their time in Forest School, eating crumpets and finding conkers for their artwork. Year 1 pupils, building on the foundations they laid in Reception, have been putting pencil to paper with their first Big Write.

Music has always been an integral part of life here at Cranmore and it is greatly encouraging to see so many of our children involved with our choirs and various instrumental groups. We are already looking forward to seeing them perform over the weeks and months.

Reception News

Reception enjoyed cooking crumpets on the fire and making spiders out of conkers this week in Forest School. They also enjoyed looking at their topic books in RE and talking about their families. They learnt that they are part of both God’s family and our Cranmore family! In Maths, the children learnt about height and length and were super at ordering various bears from the smallest to the biggest. Great work, Reception!

Year 1 News

Year 1 pupils have completed their very first Big Write, inspired by the story The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. Mrs Parker and Mrs Leclezio were incredibly impressed with how focused the children were and how confidently they wrote in full sentences. A fantastic effort by everyone well done, Year 1!

Mrs Parker

Year 2 News

Year 2 are thoroughly enjoying their topic of Castles. In art, they used oil pastels and colour wash to create beautiful sandcastles.

The music department is now in full swing as ensemble rehearsals, individual lessons, instrumental demonstrations and clubs have all started for the year. Performance opportunities for instrumental ensembles and choirs include the Carol Service, Young Voices at the O2, the Spring Soiree, and other trips and tours. Individual lessons are given on instruments including piano, guitar, violin/viola, cello, flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, and voice every week by our outstanding team of peripatetic music teachers. Spaces are available on most instruments, and pupils may start lessons from Year 1. If your child would like to begin learning, please contact the Music Department (musicadmin@cranmore.org).

Board Games Club is Back!

Board Games Club has kicked off the year with a group of enthusiastic Year 6 students diving straight into Catan, a strategic game of building and trading settlements. We have also welcomed some keen Year 4s to the club, adding fresh faces and energy to the mix. Our regulars have returned too, ready to challenge themselves with a wide selection of games on offer. It is already shaping up to be a fun and engaging year of strategy, creativity, and friendly competition.

We are delighted to welcome the awardwinning poet Karl Nova to Cranmore on Wednesday 15th October, who will be giving a series of performances and workshops to pupils from Years 5 to 10.

In his award-winning debut book Rhythm and Poetry, the beauty of rap lyricism and Hip Hop influenced poetry is displayed with wit, humour and positivity. The Curious Case of Karl Nova is a follow up to Rhythm and Poetry in which he uses the voice that he found to tell his own unique story. You will journey with him from the UK to Nigeria and back again. It is all done with his witty humour and inspirational verses which have become his trademark.

If you would like to order a book for Karl to sign on the day of his visit, please place your order via this link by Tuesday 14th October. Please use the drop-down box to select Cranmore and place your order directly. Karl will then bring the books on the day and sign them for your child. We are looking forward to what will no doubt be a very exciting author event.

Karl Nova Visit

Last weekend was a fantastic weekend of sport for Cranmore!

On Saturday, we hosted our annual U8 and U10 football tournaments, featuring 16 teams. The Henderson Field was the perfect setting, with all the young players having an absolute blast. Huge congratulations to our Cranmore U10 team, who won the tournament! Well done to everyone who took part and displayed some fantastic football.

A big thank you to Mr Cox, our Head of Football, for organising the event, and to the rest of the sports department for making it run smoothly.

We also had six Cranmore ski teams competing at the English Schools Regionals. Our experienced skiers and first-time competitors all did an amazing job. Incredibly, three teams have qualified for the ESSKIA National Finals in Norwich. Good luck to all!

Good luck to our U11 football team playing at the Feltonfleet tournament this weekend and our U9A & U9B team playing at the Downsend event.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

A reading from the Book of Genesis

Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.” God created man in his image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying: “Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth.” God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good.

Reflection

This week we reflect on the theme of Creation. What a beautiful world we live in. A world of variety, connectivity and colour. Pope Francis wrote about how Creation was an action of Hope. God has hope in the world and He has hope in us. Let us be people of Hope and seek to become good stewards over all that has been entrusted to us.

Protecting creation, Pope Francis explains, "It is not only an ethical issue, but one that is eminently theological, for it is the point where the mystery of man and the mystery of God intersect."

Prayer

All powerful God, you are present in the universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with your peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

Amen

‘Let us protect Christ in our lives, so that we can protect others, so that we can protect creation!’ Pope Francis
