Message from the Headmaster
Throughout the week, we helped raise awareness during Anti Bullying Week of the importance of supporting others and those in need. On Friday, we continued with this theme as pupils and staff took part in Odd Socks Day and made donations to the Anti Bullying Alliance. I would also like to thank all those families who contributed to the Shoe Box Appeal in support of such a worthy cause.
The Effingham Reading Challenge 2022 23 for pupils which is running across Cranmore and St Teresa’s has begun. There are a number of fascinating books to choose from and I know pupils will be captivated with the stories; we look forward to finding out which book will be the overall winner.
I would like to congratulate all the Cranmore pupils who took part in the Henkes Shield on Saturday. It was another competitive spectacle and I am delighted that we have managed to tip the balance of successful victories in our favour. Another notable success was achieved by the Cranmore U9 and U11 ski teams which competed at the Surrey Championships. There were some outstanding individual performances with the teams winning gold in their category. Well done to everyone involved. The Cranmore ski squad
Year 4 History
4FH have been learning about how the Ancient Egyptians made papyrus paper from the papyrus plant, by cutting the stem into thin strips, soaking the strips in water and then interleaving them. We have had great fun making
Year 4 students have studied the work of Vincent Van Gogh in more detail, learning about his life as an mark making artist and the time he spent in France when his mental health was in decline. They have been copying his painting ‘The Garden at Arles’ in oil pastel, learning to apply mark making to explore his process. Developing a sense of understanding how Van Gogh could portray texture, mood and the weather encompasses our school value of ‘Intellect’ which we are reflecting on this term.

We are pleased to announce the Effingham Reading Challenge 2022 23 which is running across Cranmore and St Teresa’s for pupils in Year 4 upwards. We have selected five fantastic books all of which have been released over the last year. Pupils can read three of the books for a Bronze certificate, four for a Silver certificate and five for a Gold certificate. Pupils who would like to take part should go and see Mrs Watkinson in the Cranmore library or Mrs Clarke in the St Teresa’s library. We look forward to finding out which book will be the overall winner!

Year 1 went to Forest School and had a fabulous time! They went on a bug hunt and made tree mobiles. Then they had some lovely, warm hot chocolate and a biscuit.

pupils have been working so hard this week on making and writing of CVC words. We were so pleased with how much effort the children put in, really focusing on their cursive handwriting. Some of the children got to show Miss Gallop and she was very impressed. Well done, children!

It is National Nursery Rhyme week and the Pre Nursery children have really enjoyed joining in with different nursery rhymes and engaging in various art activities, making spiders and sheep, and baking current buns! The Nursery children had a fun time at Forest School: they made their own pizzas and cooked them on the camp fire. They experienced some lovely sensory play with baked beans in the tuff tray, describing what they could feel and smell. In French this week they continued to learn about colours and participated in a collage activity. The sound of the week is ‘g’ and they bought in some lovely items from home for show and tell. The children have been working very hard with their pencil control skills, learning to write their names.

Anti-bullying Week
For Anti bullying Week, in Year 1 we have been thinking of ways to ‘Choose Kindness’. As part of this, the children chose to write letters home to their families to say thank you for all the wonderful things they do. We hope parents enjoy receiving their special mail in the post!

Year 3 Forest School Outing
Year 3 were very grateful for a break in the rain and made the best of the opportunity at Forest school. They made tortilla wraps with their choice of fillings on the fire and found all sorts of fun things to do on the site.
