The first full week of a new academic year is complete and the children are beginning to establish their new routines. It has been wonderful to welcome parents to our Prep information events, including last week’s settling in day for Reception and to the Tuesday evening presentations by our teaching staff. I hope that the information shared proves useful in supporting your children at home and provides an insight into what they can look forward to this year.
Our first assemblies together have given us the chance to talk about our value for the year, Compassion, and what it means to act compassionately. We have also begun to celebrate some of the positions of responsibility that pupils in our Prep can enjoy. Our new House Captains looked particularly pleased to receive their badges! Our first House Meetings took place on Thursday and a sense of healthy competition has been fostered for the year ahead.
Sports fixtures and clubs are already underway with our Under 11 footballers securing an impressive victory in the first round of the Surrey Cup. Our Under 8 teams are playing their first competitive fixtures against local opposition this afternoon. Outside of school, the first trips of the year will also be starting soon, with Year 3 heading off next week and Reception the week after.
We are looking forward to another busy Open Morning tomorrow. Our Year 10 pupils will be leading the tours and I know that they will be wonderful ambassadors for our school and its incredible facilities. We are also very grateful to our CPA for their support with this key event in the school calendar.
Reception News
Reception had a super first Forest School session. They loved making their 'journey sticks' by collecting leaves and plants whilst exploring the site. They also enjoyed playing in the mud kitchen, climbing trees and swinging in the hammock. We cannot wait for our next session on Monday!
Reception pupils were delighted to welcome the new Lower Prep House Captains to their classroom on Wednesday. The House Captains chose books from our book corner to share with the Reception pupils. We really enjoyed receiving our visitors and cannot wait to see them again soon!

Year 1 News
This week, Year 1 explored the magic of sunsets in their art lesson. Using black wax crayons to create striking outlines, the children then applied watercolour washes to bring their ocean sunset scenes to life. The resist technique made their artwork pop, and Mrs Parker and Mrs Leclezio were especially impressed by how thoughtfully the children mixed colours to capture the beauty of the setting sun. Well done, Year 1!
Upper Prep House Meetings
The first House Meetings of the term took place throughout the school today. There was a palpable sense of anticipation as pupils took part in a range of activities designed to enable them to get to know one another. We are looking forward to a term full of exciting House Meetings.
It has been a fantastic start to the term, with a full schedule of sports lessons and fixtures. Pupils have enjoyed engaging in their PE, Games, and swimming lessons, developing their skills and confidence across a range of disciplines.
Our co-curricular sports clubs are also in full swing, offering pupils opportunities to explore and excel in squash, cricket, Chelsea football, gymnastics, and tag-football. The enthusiasm and commitment shown by the children have been brilliant!
This week marked the beginning of our competitive fixtures. Year 6 pupils had their first matches of the year, with three teams taking on Danes Hill in spirited contests. Our U11A team delivered an outstanding performance in the opening round of the Surrey Cup, securing a resounding 11–1 victory against Amesbury.
The younger year groups have also been active on the field. Our U9s played against Milbourne Lodge yesterday, and our U8s took to the pitch this afternoon. Meanwhile, Cranmore hosted the Primary Schools U10 Tournament, with our U10A team proudly representing the school.
It has been a brilliant first full week back, filled with energy, teamwork, and sporting achievement. We look forward to more lessons, fixtures, and memorable moments in the weeks ahead.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
This Week
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralysed man, carried by four of them.
Reflection
Our school value for this coming year is Compassion. To have eyes that are open to the needs of others is to have eyes open to Christ who dwells in our midst; especially amongst the poor. On Sunday 7th September, Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati were canonised by Pope Leo. The Pope draws our attention to these two great young people who were driven to incredible acts of compassion by their love for Jesus. Let us likewise seek to open the eyes of our hearts and reach out to those in need this year.
Prayer
Loving and compassionate God,
We believe that you are present in this place and in our school. Help us throughout the year ahead to remain close to You. Help us to be the best that we can be and to work well with those around us. May we walk alongside others and may our hearts be compassionate to everyone we meet.
Amen
“May today there be peace within.
May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
