Our Year 6 cohort took part in a three-day residential visit to an activity centre last week and were commended by their instructors on the sense of togetherness they showed, their determination, spirit and good manners. Thank you to our parents for preparing them for this trip and to our staff for supporting them while they were away.
Prep pupils were in fine voice for our Harvest Liturgy this week, singing their hearts out for our visiting parents and Deacon Ian. Please allow me to echo the words of thanks from the Dorking Area Foodbank and the LeatherHEAD START charity for the homeless. Your generous donations are greatly appreciated and will make a real difference to the lives of those in need in our community.
Music has always been an integral part of life here at Cranmore and it is greatly encouraging to see so many of our children involved with our choirs and various instrumental groups. We are already looking forward to seeing them perform over the weeks and months.
Well done to all of those children who have put themselves forward to act as representatives of their classes on our School C Whether elected or not, all of the children have the opportunity to share their ideas for improving our school community thro the suggestions they make to their School Council representatives.
Harvest reminds us not only to pause and consider the many blessings that we enjoy, but also to take time and think compassionately about those less fortunate than ourselves. Acting with compassionate hearts means seeing the needs of others and being moved to help them.
Mr Heaver
Well done to our Under 8 and Under 10 footballers who were all undefeated in their matches against Rokeby and Danes Hill. Congratulations must also go to our U11 team for another dominant performance in their victory over Greenfields, progressing them to the next round of the Surrey Cup.

Year 6 Residential
Year 6 enjoyed a fabulous residential stay at PGL Marchants Hill last week. Over the three days, pupils participated in a variety of overland, underground and rope activities such as zip-lining, abseiling, archery, climbing, laser tag, tunnel trail and ambush in the dark. The trip enabled the boys to build their confidence, develop teamwork skills, and enjoy the surrounding countryside.
Feedback from pupils was very positive:
“We were truly spoilt by the wide range of activities.” Basty B
“My favourite activity was the giant swing.” Henry H
“I enjoyed all the activities.” Max C
“I loved all the activities, especially the giant swing.” Elijah D
On Thursday, we lived out this year’s school value of Compassion A huge array of items could be seen coming into school and these have all been passed onto the Dorking Foodbank and LeatherHEAD START Hostel.
Thank you to pupils and parents for being so generous and having such open hearts for the needs of others. Deacon Ian celebrated our Harvest Liturgy and commented on the wonderful singing of the school.
May the God of Peace, who is always with us, bless you and keep you.

Year 2 News
I am extremely proud of how hard Year 2 pupils have been working this week! In Maths we have been learning about related number facts and using our knowledge of number bonds to work out more complex number sentences.
As a reward for filling up all their marbles in the jar, we had a chocolate themed celebration linked to our class story of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The children described it as “delicious”!
Keep up the amazing work, Year 2!
Year 1 News
Year One explored their creative sides this week, making beautiful pirate spyglasses. The children worked hard to add detail, even printing sea creatures along the sides. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore imagination, build skills, and have fun through art. Ahoy, young artists!

Chess Club
In a bid to foster teamwork, friendly competition, and skill development, Year 2 and Year 3 students have been participating in weekly matches against each other. Their chess tutor demonstrates certain moves and openings to develop the boys’ skills. These games are organised on a rotational basis, ensuring that each class has the opportunity to face different opponents regularly. The rotational format not only keeps the matches fresh and exciting but also allows students to build confidence and develop their abilities across a variety of game styles and team combinations. Awards are presented at the end of each term.
Chess Club is an ideal way to introduce your child to this intellectual game. It continues into the Upper Prep and Senior school and at this point selected pupils are entered into tournaments with other schools.
Reception News
As part of our 'There's only one me' topic, Reception reflected on why they are proud to be themselves. They then wrote their ideas down using the sounds they could hear. We were so proud of their letter formation and their sound application. Great work, Reception!
Mrs Prothero
Prep pupils are three weeks into a block of PE Invasion Games. This important principle sets the foundation for many sports. Pupils have been developing their skills which will benefit them going forward. Games have included basketball, capture the flag, end ball and tag rugby.
Last Friday was a brilliant afternoon for Prep sport. We had every pupil in Year 3 and Year 5 representing Cranmore in football matches against Rokeby and Danes Hill. The players put a huge amount of effort into the fixtures and represented the school with esteem. The results are as shown below:
U10A vs Rokeby: 9 - 1
U10B vs Rokeby: 2 - 1
U10C vs Rokeby: 4 - 0
U10D vs Rokeby: 2 - 2
U8A vs Danes Hill: 1 - 1
U8B vs Danes Hill: 2 - 1
U8C vs Danes Hill: 6 - 0
Congratulations to our U11A team that have progressed through to the quarter final of the Surrey Cup after winning their last round against Greenfields, 5 -1.
Other football matches have taken place across the Prep school against opposing teams including Broomwood, Parkside and Feltonfleet.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
This Week
A reading from the Gospel of Matthew
Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.
Reflection
No sooner than we finish celebrating the feast of St Therese, we immediately celebrate the feast of one of the most popular saints, St Francis. The life of St Francis is rich with significance for today. He lived a life of extreme poverty, forsaking all other earthly possessions, despite coming from a wealthy family. He is a model for us of a saintly life, one dedicated to becoming the person God calls us to be. He is perhaps best remembered by us today because of his great Canticle of Creation, in which he recognises our closeness to the beauty of creation, God’s most abundant gift to us all. St Francis was a man with eyes that were open. He loved God not in the abstract but in the present moment, in each person, animal and flower that he encountered.
Prayer
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is error, the truth; where there is doubt, the faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
Amen.
"Sanctify yourself and you will sanctify society." ~ St Francis of Assisi
