Prep Bulletin 25 April 2025

Page 1

Happy Easter for the weekend just gone. I hope you and your families enjoyed some precious times together over the break.

A short week from Wednesday with delightful sunshine for our break times, an excellent assembly on Thursday from Mrs Morton (a Year 6 mummy) about life and work in the fashion / design industry which inspired many of our aspiring artists, designers and fashionistas. On Friday, Year 5 enjoyed the first of a series of lessons with Chef Harry for their ‘Adopt a Chef’ scheme where they learn all about healthy food, food preparation and cooking skills. They are eagerly awaiting Tuesday’s next instalment.

The news on Easter Monday of the passing of Pope Francis, God rest his soul, is a timely reminder to treasure every moment we have together in this life. The Holy Father’s wisdom and example of living a life of forgiveness, kindness and love are especially ringing ever clearer since his promotion to glory.

“I have a dogmatic certainty: God is in every person's life. God is in everyone's life. Even if the life of a person has been a disaster, even if it is destroyed by vices, drugs or anything else - God is in this person's life. You can - you must - try to seek God in every human life.” Pope Francis

“We have observed that, in society and the world in which we live, selfishness has increased more than love for others, and that men of good will must work, each with his own strengths and expertise, to ensure that love for others increases until it is equal and possibly exceeds love for oneself.” Pope Francis

“We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.” Pope Francis

Have a peaceful weekend together with your loved ones,

Gareth Tindall

Pastoral Pause

Active April! I spent the first week on the school ski-trip which was fantastic fun in Andorra and developed the skiing skills of all including myself.

I spent the second week serving my in-laws, out of love, well, I loved the Pembrokeshire scenery, I loved the amazing sunshine all week, I loved the fresh air and I loved getting to build a new walk-in shelter for their horses –so while it was an act of love to go, when we love others we benefit in return! I spent the third week walking and spending time with family and friends at home.

I hope your break provided opportunity for you to both get active and re-charge your energy.

Enjoy any little opportunity to continue to do these things over the coming weekend and week as we move from Active April to Meaningful May.

BeyondYellow Assembly

This week we welcomed Mrs Morton to lead an assembly to the Prep School. She explained the process for creating a fashion item such as a dress, based on her own brand of “Beyond Yellow” She explained how product design begins with creating a mood board and then demonstrated the steps through to the final product. It was a fascinating insight, which was demonstrated by the many questions the children asked at the end.

Year 6 Book Covers

Following the success of Book Week, the Year 6 girls were inspired by the workshop with Iszi Lawrence to create their own novels. They designed a map for their story's setting and meticulously crafted the title page and back cover, including an enticing blurb. They then embarked on writing the first chapter, introducing the characters and making it as exciting as possible. It was truly heartwarming to see the girls applying the writing skills they have been developing over the past few years. Watching their creativity and enthusiasm come to life in their stories was a proud moment for all of us.

Year 4 Dream Catchers

Year 4 spent their Topic lesson for Road Trip USA lesson was had by all!

Easter Music Course

A Reading from the Gospel of Luke:

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.

Reflection

This week we will certainly have in our thoughts and prayers Pope Francis who passed away peacefully on Monday 21 April. The world over the coming weekend will gather in Rome to say farewell to this beloved Pope who spoke often of the mercy and love of God. As Christians we are called to be people of the Resurrection and just as Christ overcame death we too can be confident of a world beyond this one. Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis and remember the wonderful things he did, said and wrote.

Concluding Prayers

We pray for the soul of Pope Francis. We thank God for his life of service and place him into the hands of the merciful father. May he be comforted and rest in the peace of your love.

We pray also for the soul of Sister Carmel who passed away over the Easter holidays. May the spirit of God who rose Christ from the grave also rise Sister Carmel to new life in heaven.

We pray for all within our school community, as we embark on a new term. May we grow closer to the risen Lord and feel His presence more and more in our lives. Lord Jesus, give us the strength to meet the various challenges we will encounter and help us to find the joy of your resurrection in unexpected places and people.

Amen
