House Tennis: M. McGibbon

Cubitt went into the house tennis as the underdogs, underrated in every way. After our squad was announced, a few eyebrows were raised. On paper our team looked strong, with the 1st tennis team pair of Charlie Thompson and Max McGibbon leading the side, our squad was reinforced by other talent from the first and second string Tennis teams. After the first round against East, we were looking comfortable, tied with Loveday for first place having trounced, who we thought were, our main rivals. The next match against Loveday would prove to be the downfall of Cubitt’s bid for house tennis glory, with Mr Fearn describing the standard of the Cubitt’s fifth pair of Weston Lord and Chris Linford as “shockingly poor”, it was clear that the great ship Cubitt was foundering on stormy seas. That whitewash against Loveday proved to be the end of Cubitt’s Title challenge, and while we soundly beat North to secure second place, our players trudged back to Cubitt with heavy hearts and an empty trophy case.

Housemasters Comments: CHDB

Cubitt has enjoyed, not only, another all-round successful year (however one may try to particularly happy and social year; with much laughter and fun being enjoyed by all. The friendships that have been forged here, test of time; they leave with thanks and our very best wishes for the future.

Junior House Golf: W. Gumpel

Unfortunately the Cubitt golf team did not hit straight down the fairway this year which resulted in a narrow loss to North. Toby Chesser and I were beaten by the Northians, but a solid performance from James Vickery, our number 1 seed, and Max Richards kept us in the game, this meant that the hopes of Cubitt golf rested on the shoulders of Rory Calnan, a 4th form with considerable skill with a club. He battled it, going to four extra holes, in the hope of prevailing against a tough opponent. Unfortunately he was not able to conquer this challenging task and narrowly lost. Though we lost this year, we are looking forward to next year’s tournament and a comprehensive victory for the Cubbitians, we hope!

The other vital ingredient has been our wonderful team of tutor and matrons and their d of pastoral care has enriched the place and the lives of the boys enormously. I owe a hug port of the tutor team, the matrons and cleaners, without whom the house would a far ha we have to say farewell to three tutors: Mr Edward Clarke is moving to be teach Classics Clair Neill who leaves to spend more time with her family and Mr Tom Marriott who is le ry at Canford School. We wish them both the very best and their presence will be sorely m joining Cubitt will be sent out before the start of next term.
