withsosummer.enjoyedandkindsofmarkettimesgoesmarkettime.butItpresentsAlloftoBonninGermanytovisitthetraditionalChristmasMarket(orChristkindlmarkt).Thisinvolvedleavingat5amthencatchingthetubetoStanstedairport.Howeverthetubewasclosedatonepointinthejourney,whichmeantusembarkingonamissionimpossiblestylechasethroughcentralLondon,timeandhadareallygooddayinBonnatthemarket.ofthestudentsmanagedtogetthemselvessomebargains,fortheirfamilies,aswellasgoingonthefunfairrides.wasaverybusyday,everyonehadagoodHavingaChristmasisatraditionthatbacktomedievalinGermany.Theismadeupoflotssmallstallssellingallofhomemadegiftsfoods.SomepupilsitsomuchthatWelldonetoeveryonewhowentonthetripforbeingpatientandwellbehaveddespitealloftheproblemswehadthetransport.

citytheSouthall.fromtheirTheyandtouristtheyaofUniversity’sCollegewheretheirtwoThewithalsoRomeofromteachersvisitedCranfordCommunityCollege.TheycameaschoolnearFrankfurtandwerevisitingEnglandforandJulietandrecordedarapsongMrMcKeever.studentswentondaytripsduringstay.OnetoOxfordtheyvisitedKebleandOxfordMuseumNaturalHistoryandvisittoLondonwheremadetheroundsofsightslikeBigBenBuckinghamPalace.alsohadtimeforaquickshoppingtriptoOxfordStreet.Onlastday,theGermanstudentsinterviewedrepresentativestheschoolcouncilandwentonatouroftheGurdwarainItwasanactionpackedweekforallinvolved.GermanschoolandvisitedacastleandexperiencedFrankfurtcentrewiththeirexchangepartners.

ToofasktoenjoyingbuffetOnheaven.chocolate.guidedaTheThetripgavestudentstheopportunitytopractisetheirFrenchinavarietyofreallifesituations.studentstravelledbycoachandferrytoCalaisbeforesettingofftoLeTouquettovisittraditionalchocolatefactoryintheheartoftheFrenchcountryside.Studentsweregivenatourofthefactory,learnthowchocolateismadeandwereinvitedtotastefreshlymadeStudentsthenscrambledtogetintothequeueforthefactoryshop;averitablechocolatetheseconddayofthetripthecoachsetofftoDisneylandParis(notbeforeadeliciousbreakfastwithasmanycroissantsandpainsauchocolatascouldbeeaten).AswellasSpaceMountainandtheotherthrillingrides,studentsweregivenaquestionnairecompletethroughoutthedaytohelpthemusetheirFrench.Theyhadtoorderfood,forprices,askfordirectionsandunderstandFrenchsigns.Thiswasallgoodtravelandtourism.providetheperfectendingtoanalreadymagicalday,studentsweretreated allitsglory. LilletripbyMsM.Calvo fromweTheandtwopracticestudents,Minutesearly.andwhethergatesconsciousupmadethepresentsenjoyedYearsaucetheMonsieur/Madame”.practisedatmarketfourteacherssetoffforadaytriptotheLilleChristmasmarket.TheLilleChristmasisrenownedasoneofthebestinnorthernFranceandeveryonewasexcitedtheprospectofspendingtheireurosonpresentsforfamilyandfriends.StudentsessentialFrenchphrasesonthecoachsuchas“Çacoûtecombien?”,“BonjourInLille,studentsventuredoffinsmallgroups,readytoexploremanysightswhichincludedthestallsattheChristmasmarket,aFerriswheelinandtheDisneyshop.9practisedtheirFrenchinavarietyofsituations,deliciousFrenchfoodandstockeduponfromthemarketstallsandtheshopsaroundtownsquare.OnthereturnjourneythegroupastopatahypermarketinCalaistostockonmoreFrenchfoodand,forsomefashionpupils,tobuymoreclothes.andtheonlysignoflifewasthemilkman,IwonderedIwastheonlypersonawakeinthewholeofLondonwhyIwasmadenoughtoplanatripthatstartedsolaterIwasgreetedbyanexcitedgroupofyear8alleagertoexperienceFrenchcultureandputintotheFrenchthattheyhadbeenlearningforthepastyears.Soonwewereontheroad;amazinglyall44pupils4teachershadmadeitontimeandalthoughaexcitementoftheEurotunnelover,wearrivedinafoggycandotohelptheplanet.AhighlightformanywastheanormalFrenchlesson.sightseeing,shoppingandofcoursedeliciousFrenchfood.TherewasgreatexcitementwhenpupilsrealisedthattheycouldorderinFrenchandgetwhattheywereexpectingandmanysouvenirswereboughtfromtheshopstotakebackforfamilyandfriends.Nextstop,thebeach!Whileshopping,thefoghadliftedtorevealbeautifulblueskies.SoconditionswereperfectonBoulogne’swhitesandybeachfortheboystoenjoyagoodrematch.Thegirlsenjoyeddippingtheirfeetintheseaandplayingonthesandandtheteachersrelaxedbyeatinglotsday.LotsofFrenchwasattempted,manysouvenirswerepupilswantedtostayforaweek.Maybenexttime... 3

Francedepartments.andteachersjointstaff,5EnglishonstudentsenthusiasticandIwasStraightwalkedwentinDelhi.beautiful.Afterwards,weHindusmarblebuildingwe“WhenandothersNeasdenwentonathoroughlyenjoyablejointREandPunjabitriptoTemple.Thedaywasgreat,asyear7and8studentsinpractisingtheirPunjabilanguageskillsinaquestionanswersessionwithtemplevolunteers.wewenttoNeasdenTemple,weenjoyeditalot.First,wentintotheMarbleMandirwhichweenteredfromabesideit.Iprayed,andwelookedatallthebeautifulstatues.ThestatueswereofGods(Murtis)whichdresslikehumans.ThenwewenttoabighallwheresawaslideshowtodowiththebuildingoftheMandir.wewenttoseeAartibeingperformed,whichwasAartiisanimportantceremonyforHindus.TheyshowedusalotofinformationaboutthetempleDelhi,onethingIrememberisthatthetempleisheldupintoaroomwithastatueofShriSwaminarayanandwearoundit.afterlunch,wewenttoanexhibition.Theexhibitionveryinteresting;therewerethingstherethatIdidn’tknow.lovedthestoriesthattheyhad.Itwasareallywonderfuldaywealllearntalot.scienceembarkedatripacrosstheChannelwithequallyenthusiastictheresultoftheeffortsbytheoftheScienceModernLanguageswasatVimy,war.animpressiveCanadianwarmonumenttoallwhodiedintheAfewhourslaterthegroupreachedCompaignewherethe “Jevoudraisun sandwich…” Theeveryonehastostartsomewhere.nextmorningthegrouparrivedinParis,visitingSacréCoeur, seeingtheMoulinRouge,l’ArcdeTriompheandtheTourEiffel HighfromaroundFrenchwellweresomethingTheSciencehadanddidn’tdanceandtechnology;destination.NextdifferentParis,mood.theriverSeineandalthoughitbegantorainitdidn’tspoiltheAfterluncheveryonetookpartinariverboatcruiseofstudentsexcitedlylistenedtothecommentaryinuptoeightlanguages.ontheitinerary,thepartyarrivedatFuturoscope,ourultimateFuturoscopeoffersthecuttingedgeofcinematographicpupilsvirtuallytravelledfromthepeakoftheAlpsthestreetsofVenicetothedeepblueocean,notforgettingawithrobotsontheway.Althoughthedaywascold,pupilsfalterandmanyleftthegiftshopwiththeirownrocketsminiVanderGraffgenerators.Ajourneyintothecosmosstudentsdiscussingtheformationofstars,arealmergingofandlanguages.tripwasahugesuccess,withpupilsandstafflearningnewateveryturn.The44studentsreturningtoCranfordnolessenthusiasticthenwhentheyleftbutallwerereturnedversedinFrenchculture,havinglearntorpractisedtheirandwithagreaterunderstandingofscienceintheworldthem.Thesmilingfacesandechoof‘Merci’resonatingpupilafterpupilonthecoachasitturnedintoCranfordStreetsaiditall. forthere(TianjincloseInmyroleasDirectorofSport&ExtraCurricularActivity,IvisitedChinaatapartnerinstitutioninthecityofTianjin,China.CranfordCommunityCollegehasalongstandingandrelationshipwithTIFERTInstituteforForeignEconomicRelationsandTrade)whichhasledtoanumberofexchangevisitsbystudentsandstaff,conferencesandotherbusinesspartnershipsbetweenwasaBusinessandEconomicstrip2weekstotheschoolandinOctober andBeijingThesignanew‘FriendshipAgreement’inBeijing.purposeofmyvisitwastostartplanningforadelegationOlympicswhichtakesplaceinvenuesaroundBeijingTianjin.Duringthevisit,Iwasinvitedtobeaspecialguestofhonourattheirannualsportsevent.Iwasveryimpressedbythewayinwhichtheyorganisedandrantheirsportsevent.ItreallywaslikeapracticeOlympicGames.Theopeningceremonyitselflastedforoneandahalfhoursandwasaspectacletobehold.Iwasinvitedtosayafewwordsduringtheopeningceremonyanditwasmypleasuretowatchsuchaninspiring,wellorganisedandenormousevent.Theconductofthestudentsduringthesportseventoutstandingandtheyallseemtotakesuchahugeprideintheirsport.Duringmystay,IwasprovidedwithatranslatorwhoaccompaniedmeeverywhereasmyMandarinisnottoogoodyet,butIdidtrymybest.ItooktheopportunitytovisittheGreatWallofChinawheretheywereholdingtheGreatWallMarathonwhichwasanotherincredibleexperience.Itwas285yards,includingpartofitalongtheGreatWallitself.Thiswasnomeanfeat!Iwenttoinspectthebrandnew‘OlympicFootballStadium’thattheyhavebuiltinTianjinandwhichthedelegationwilloutsidewithsheetsofplasticanditlookslikeahugeUFO.MostoftheOlympicfootballtournamentwilltakeplaceinthis

pupilspresentedusRobinsonIthasbeenanexcitingyearforFrenchatNorwoodGreen.MsfromCranfordCommunityCollegehasbeenhelpingteachandpreparelessonsforpupilsinyear4.ThechildrenaFrenchChristmasassemblyandrecentlyshowedandstaffattheschoolhowtoplaypétanque.ThechildrenarelookingforwardtoattendingtheFrenchMarketDayatCranfordCommunityplayssotheycanconversewiththeyear9pupils.Childreninyear3havehadtheopportunitytoattendaFrenchclub.Thechildrenweresupportedbypupilsinyear4whohelpedteachthechildrenavarietyofsongsandgames.Pupilsfromyear4willteachminilessonstoyear3pupilsattheendofthesummerterm.

byMsZ.Woodward andahottheandAftertoaresuchgamestheandoneTheverybroughtCollege’sourWechildrenBonjour,Çava?Doyouknowtheanswer?Ouryear3and4do!havebeenabletoteachprimaryforeignlanguagesintwooffouryeargroupswithsupportfromourCranfordCommunityLanguageCollegeManager,MsRobinson.Shehasmanywonderfulresourcestoshowandsharewhichwerehelpfulinourteamteachinginyear3.experienceforthechildreninvolvedhasbeenaverypositiveandtheyareverykeentojoininandpractisenewwordsphrases.Beinginteractivehasbeenthekeytothesesessions,pupilsloveusingactionstorememberwords,playinglinkedonthewhiteboardsandjumpingaroundsingingsongsas‘TheWeatherSong’tothetuneof‘Herewego..’.Theyconstantlyaskingwhenthenextlessonisandcannotwaitlearnmore.havingshownsomuchenthusiasm,theyear4teachersIsetadatelasttermforaFrenchDay.ThroughoutthedaychildrenwereimmersedinFrenchculturefromatraditionalchocolateandcroissantbreakfasttopaintinginthestyleofFrenchartist.Unsurprisinglytheythoroughlyenjoyedtheirdaykeeppesteringtheirteacherstodoanotherone.

TiffanymoveinitiativeKeytoThedevelopment.ThelanguagemeetingCranfordhelpofferstoforeignandof2regionalteachingschools,itsCranfordchildrenbeenevenareParentstochildrenofchildrenpositivefunlearningLessonsEuropeanlearningfact,childrenandFrenchexcitedthat“IstheFrenchteachercomingintoday?”ThisisthequestiongreetsmeeveryFridaymorninganddemonstratesjusthowthechildrenareaboutthepartnershipvisitfromtheteacher.eagertolearn.Regardlessofabilityinothersubjects,thehavebeenabletoaccessthecontentofeachlesson.InsomeoftheFrenchlessonshaveenhancedthechildren’sinothercurriculumsubjects,forexamplegeographyandawareness.arefun.Nochildfeelsexcludedfromthelessonasallstylesarecateredforthroughdynamic,interactiveandactivities.aboutourroleinfacilitatingfuturelessons.Indeed,thehaverespondedwelltomyattemptsatteachingsomethemodules.Someofthequestionsandconcernsthatthehavearealsosharedbytheteachingstaff,whichleadsproductivedialogueandcreativethinkingaboutlanguage.andpeershavebeenabletowitnesshowwellourchildrenprogressingwithFrenchthroughtermlyclassassemblies.WesanginFrenchattheCarolConcert!Allinallthishasaverypositivelearningexperiencefortheandstaff.CommunityCollegehasspreadwingsacrosstheboroughandsupportedstudentsandteachersinarangeofandlearningstrategies.trainersforthedeliveryofKeyStagemodernforeignlanguagesandrunaseriestrainingdaysforKS2teachers,DeputiesHeadteachersembracetheKS2modernlanguagesstrategy,enablingthemunderstandthenewframeworkandgaintrainingtoHounslowprimaryschoolstowithlessonplanninganddelivery.chairsthesecondarymodernforeignlanguagessubjectleadersoncepertermwherethenationalstrategiesarecoveredandteachersfromdifferentschoolssharegoodpracticeandfocusonmeetingsofferagreatopportunityfornetworkingandprofessionalDepartmentforEducationandSkillshasfundedagroupofschoolsresearchandreportbackontheforeignlanguageteachingissuesatStage3.CranfordCommunityCollegeistheleadschoolinthisandhasproducedanactionplanwhichwillhelpKeyStage3forwardpositivelyatatimeofcurriculumchange.Robinson
