Bell Chimes in My Bedroom is a letter to the transgender friendships and loves that I never could have had and have lost. The vibraphone sounds like the way I felt with them.
I - Fascism Kills Trans Girls was created for November 2024, and the swirl of horror surrounding it. I have friends who married their partners in local courthouses during the week of the 11th, in case their rights would go away. Soon after, the terror of anticipation of the next administration gave way to sheer silence as millions of angry mouths shut themselves and left my side. In late January and early February, some snow fell, friends came together, some were missing, and I decided to become an athlete for fun; even though I’m a Trans Woman. This movement is meant to show how the beautiful things trans brothers and sisters have made, must all be understood with the context that the continuance of oppression is ingrained and intended.
II - Capitalism Kills Trans Guys is a response to how two of my transmasc friends did not have a family member who could sign on their loans and were forced to come to terms with not being able to return for the next semester. One friend was able to find a solution, and the other was unable to return. He and I had gone on several dates before he told me this, and regardless of how we would have felt about each other, we cannot. Credit scores kill people, and for us, they enforce that every administration in the 21st century has agreed, trans people are not allowed to be considered normal inAmerica. We are not allowed to love, nor live. Movement two is a completion of the arc.
