The primary objective of this proposal is to establish a bold vision for the new Abu Dhabi Police Academy as a world class training and education center for law enforcement. This vision is achieved through a unique architectural expression featuring a sustainably designed campus model that promotes a disciplined, well organized and healthy educational & work environment. The urban design plan, radiates from the center of the campus known as the 5 point Student Hub.

The Student Hub is the central focus of the campus design, providing efficient access to multiple acticity zones with a focus on the daily experience of the students. The 5 activity zones include: Student Residences, Dining halls& Clubs, Education Buildings, Training & Exercise Facilities and Central Mosque. These program components are as follows: 1. Rest 2. Eat 3. Learn 4. Train 5. Pray

The Hub represents the central focus of the campus, while the additional support services including; administration, residential, infrastructure and cultural buildings are located to the perifery of the site. The Mosque has been placed at the center of the Hub not for importance over other program areas, but rather to provide the shortest distance for daily access from any direct student activity point surrounding it.

The ADNEC Office HQ tower, responds to the client request for a revision to an existing “iconic” proposal by Zaha Hadid - deemed too expensive to build. The new proposal features similar program requirements, but standardizes the office floor plates for maximum efficiency, simplifies the exterior glazing system, featuring undulating bands of exterior solar screens for a sustainable “iconic effect.”

The exterior solar screens promote sun shading in the daytime to reduce solar loading and energy consumption while featuring a programmable, multicolored LED lighting system at night to maximize visual exposure for the building.

The Signature Tower, Abu Dhabi is an iconic, mixed use project located beside the existing Le Royal Meridian Hotel on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The 275m tall two tower (50 and 41 floors) concept includes a 5 star, 500 key hotel, 360 serviced apartments and office space while retaining views of the Arabian Gulf for the Le Meridien hotel.

The dune-like curves of the podium feature parking, pool deck, fitness and retail amenities. The Signature tower design is an urban landmark and gateway tower into the city that is unique in comparison to any other building in the world

Al Riyadh Tower

The Riyadh Tower, with a total height of 224 meters, is poised to be the third tallest building in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia near Riyadh’s Kingdom Centre (311m) and the King Faisaliah Tower (267m) to become another important architectural landmark for the city of Riyadh.

This multi-use office and retail development fulfills the requirements of the client, (Al Ajlan Allied Group) for an elite iconic development that will portray a luxurious business and cultural lifestyle with environmental aspirations.

The prominent site location along King Fahd Road in downtown Riyadh required a dynamic and progressive design approach with considerable respect for climate and culture. The basic concept was derived from contemporary design, blending with local patterns and cultural elements.

The development has a total built-up area of 66,000 sqm. consisting of 35 storeys of office space, five levels of underground parking, two mechanical service floors, one level of restaurant with retail souk and public areas at the ground floor. The project is currently under tender for construction.

Main Entry

The concept for the G+4 mixed use office/retail program was developed from the courtyard model of traditional Arab cities, which offer “internal” green courtyards, (based upon the 7 Gulf Emirates) water features, shaded areas and natural daylight while the “exterior” shelters the interior spaces from the desert sun.

The proposal features standard office blocks in varied configurations, with interior facing glazing into semi public courtyards and an outer building “solar wrapper” shell to protect from the sun.

PROJECT CONCEPT

MASTERPLAN

“The Western Marina proposal is based upon thoughtful design and quality that provides a branded experience required for such exclusive, upscale seaside luxury development properties.”

Atkins is pleased to assist the National Investment Corporation (NIC) in designing The Western Marina proposal, a mixed use Retail, Hotel, Waterpark and Residential Development surrounding a large Luxury Marina. The site is envisioned to be located in the up and coming Western Region of Abu Dhabi. The masterplan visualized in this proposal is based upon a combination of efficiency, buildability and expressive character that would function as an attractive and unique destination location for esidents and investors to the Western Region.

The Western Marina proposal is based upon thoughtful design quality that provides a branded experience required for such exclusive, upscale seaside luxury development properties. This concept proposal contributes a unique masterplan vision while highlighting the special waterfront conditions of the overall site development. Each design proposal is oriented to maximize the available view corridors to the nearby Arabian gulf, offering residents a visual and physical connection to the surrounding natural environment. Gracious public open park spaces are combined with an active pedestrian boardwalk ensure ease of movement for guests and visitors throughout the development and into the public beach areas. There is also a focus on secured access and privacy for residents.

437 +/- Luxury (500 m2 + 1000 m2) villas are proposed, many with private boat jettys with a focus on maximizing sea views. The masterplan features the fl exibility to change or alter as required with a strategy of placing the retail mall and hotel functions closest to the marina.

The retail mall and residential apartment programs are combined together to offer additional sea views for the (1900+) apartment tenants and to ensure economic sustainability for the mall by providing a large local population foot fall to support the retail outlets. The boardwalk area will be the most public area with indoor/outdoor seating for cafes and restauraunts with a view onto the marina and will truly be the heart of the development, a place to see and be seen.

The 4 Star - 250 key Hotel is programed as a standalone feature element in both options to exemplify its own identity as a destination location, with a private beach and direct access route, to clearly seperate it operationally from the other functions on the site. In addition, a large waterpark fun center is envisioned to rival Wild Wadi, located in Dubai.

The centralized marina will provide ample space and the highest appointment standards for those who enjoy the sailing or luxury powerboat yachting lifestyle. The marina will offer direct recreational access to the pristine Arab Gulf and will contribute to the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 vision of establishing Abu Dhabi as an international center for leisure boating with 200 natural islands and a vast coastline. The initial design proposal meets with the clients requests for units and general GFA design requirements.

Design Concept: In the era of mega high rise structures and vertical cities, new design and engineering ideas are required to create a bold vision for the future.

The Nanjing Greenland Tower represents a progressive shift away from historically singular, monolithic ideas about design, towards a more free form architecture.

Nanjing Tower breaks from a traditional approach to highrise architectural design, demonstrating a philosophy where the whole is balanced through multiple components. The tower design signifies and promotes an advanced, sophisticated international identity for its owners, users and the city of Nanjing by balancing the future with tradition.

Tower Formal Concept

: The Dancing Dragons of the Nanjing Greenland Tower rise together towards the sky, carving and shaping the building form as they move.

Like the spinning camshaft within an engine, the dynamic form of an asymmetric design can harness, focus and balance energy in unpredictable ways..

The design of the tower is intented to invigorate the city of Nanjing by harnessing the energy of its’ people and commerce, fusing them together into a dynamic sense ofplace.

The overall tower plan design allows for dynamic flows of people into the site, while the tower carries this energy upwards through the building to the iconic beacon above.

TRI S Recycling Pod

Single Source / Multistream Recycling Receptacle

Chicago is recognized globally for its proud heritage of architectural innovation and achievement. Today, the birthplace of the skyscraper is developing an ambitious vision for a sustainable future, as the greenest city in North America. The competition for a new public recycling receptacle is helping the City of Chicago showcase this sustainable vision. The TRIOS Recycling Pod presents a functional design that serves the public and redefines the idea of recycling as clean, beautiful and desirable. We believe that people appreciate and respect good design. The Trios Pod features a clean, organic contemporary look and feel with the ultimate goal of increasing public participation in the recycling process while enhancing the urban environment with a unique design of sculptural quality.

The TRIOS concept was developed with the following three main objectives:

- The first objective is to create an iconic design that redefines the public image of recycling in Chicago.

- The second objective is to create a single source, multistream recycling receptacle that functions easily and efficiently for both the public and the city.

- The third objective is to increase participation in recycling and public awareness through a point source container with increased urban visibility

The TRIOS design offers design flexibility through multiple material options and colors. These options include a transparent exterior shell for a direct visual engagement between the individual and the recycling process as the TRIOS reveals its' internal contents. This transparency also increases security within public collection bins to address issues of Homeland Security. The TRIOS system offers adaptable/interlocking geometric plans to adapt to various sites and functions. Lighting features are available within the unit to provide night time presence and visibility while contributing to the overall design concept.

Orientation and interaction with the TRIOS pod is guided through color coded large format text located on the sides and top of the exterior shell to denote appropriate bin selection and material type. In addition, custom usage symbols have been designed for the three internal bins located on the top of the receptacle to communicate to an international audience. A pliable poly-urethane type curtain located at the mouth of the receptacle deforms to receive the discarded item as it is pushed inward.

The TRIOS Recycling Pod

TRIOS presents a functional design that serves the public while it redefines the idea of recycling as clean, beautiful and desirable. We believe that people appreciate and respect good design, therefore we created an iconic form that redefines the public image of recycling in Chicago.

The Trios Pod features a contemporary, organic look with a clean and hygenic feel. The design also promotes the ultimate goal of increasing public participation in the recycling process, while enhancing the urban environment with a unique design of sculptural quality.
