There is a demand in the nanosatellite community for a UHF-UHF transceiver. The UTRX is a compact telemetry and command radio designed for CubeSat missions. It is compatible with the CubeSat standard with a CubeSat Kit PC/104 form factor. The transceivers implement halfduplex AFSK and GMSK uplink and downlink communications with data rates of 1200 and 9600 bps respectively. The UTRX transmits frequencies in the amateur and commercial bands respectively. The design is robust as it is not a highly integrated design which is susceptible to radiation; rather the design includes many discrete components as well as an inherently radiation immune FPGA as the controller. The subsystem was designed to be very low power since it is a TT&C radio which needs to be powered the constantly.
