Thank you for selecting CPUT as your academic partner. Today, years of hard work, determination and resilience are being rewarded. When you walk across the stage to be capped, and hear the jubilant cheers of the audience, I hope you pause for a moment to remember the highs and lows of your journey to this point.
This year, we celebrate 20 years of CPUT. From our roots in the old Technikon institutions, to now being one of the top Universities of Technology in the country, we certainly have a lot to be proud of – and graduations are one of those occasions where we reflect on our mutual accomplishments.
I hope that you too continue to thrive and create value wherever you go. Dream big and do something worthwhile with your precious qualification. Your community and South Africa need you now, more than ever.

TITLE: A FRAMEWORK FOR SUSTAINABLE ADOPTION OF E-HEALTH TOOLS IN DELIVERING DIGITAL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AT A SELECTED SOUTH AFRICAN UNIVERSITY
Rhodrick’s research was driven by the increasing mental health challenges faced by university staff, exacerbated by factors such as increased workloads, the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and the need for effective digital mental health interventions. This study’s empirical evidence revealed that factors influencing the sustainable adoption of e-health tools for digital mental health services directly led to the development and implementation of effective strategies. While the COVID-19 pandemic was a key driver of its initial adoption, its impact on sustainability was limited. The findings further indicated that as the factors influencing adoption increased, the current level of adoption decreased, suggesting that initial enthusiasm was countered by implementation challenges during the pandemic. The study also found that the mere existence of digital mental health services is not enough to guarantee the sustainable adoption of e-health tools. Instead, effective strategies are needed to improve and ensure its long-term use. This study contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3, which promotes good health and well-being. Rhodrick has published two DHET-accredited journal articles.

20 YEARS OF GROWING FROM GREATS #CPUT20YEARS
On 1 January 2005, Cape Technikon and Peninsula Technikon merged to form the Cape Peninsula University of Technology – CPUT. This year, CPUT is proud to celebrate 20 years as an amalgamated institution.
The digital tree depicted in our 20-year celebrations symbolises growth, connectedness, and oneness. It provides vital connections, mental sustenance, safety, and support for the CPUT community. The branches represent the various fields of study and research, all interlinked; while the trunk supports these branches, and facilitates growth by providing what is needed, in the same way that the support services facilitate the learning, teaching, and research functions at the University.
A resilient, healthy tree needs sturdy, developed, and nourished roots. The roots of the tree symbolise the strong heritage institutions that merged to form CPUT. Without the solid base of these, CPUT would not be where it is today. The circuit board overlay represents CPUT’s evolution by using the latest technology as a growth framework and enabler. Our development is grounded in the use of technology, and the interconnectedness that networking provides.
