This letter applies to all registered students in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

When the academic year started at the beginning of February 2024, the rest of the year seemed such a long way off. Yet, we have already reached the end of Semester 1 with imminent mid-year assessments being a stark reality of what will transpire for the next few weeks. Well done to all students who persevered and succeeded to date. Continue to be conscientious, diligent and to be consistent in learning and developing yourself.

The mid-year assessments for the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences commence on 20 May 2024. Students are reminded to refer to the formal institutional communication channels for departmental time-tables. Ensure that dates and times of each assessment are correct to schedule your study time-table accordingly. Arrive at the venue early enough to be seated at least 15 minutes before the assessment starts so that the full time allocation is used for the assessment. Students are reminded that misreading a time-table and not arriving for an assessment is not a reason to be accommodated for another assessment.

Assessments can be quite stressful for many students. There are, however, strategies to minimise stress, such as:

• Be prepared to write the assessments. Refer to tasks, exercises and notes to fully prepare for the test or assignment. Know your work, know how to apply content to different contexts, and be knowledgeable about what will be included in the assessment based on your subject guides.

• Form study groups and work with other students to have a support group.

• Plan a study time-table to pace yourself to prepare for each subject.

• Practice self-care – eat nourishing foods, have enough rest and be confident about what you know and what you are able to do.

Education is an investment – you need to invest time and energies to achieve success. Your graduation one day will be the culmination of all your hard work and investing in yourself. Use every opportunity to learn and to succeed.

To all FBMS students, all the best for your mid-year assessments. Strive to do your best always!

Enjoy a pleasant winter recess period. To note the Term 3 starts on 15 July 2024.
