Protecting our local community from COVID-19 For the half a million Essex residents receiving the COVID-19 jab has been a priority, but it has become clear that some groups and communities are not getting vaccinated. Worryingly, the health conditions that lead to an increased risk of ending up in hospital, are often more common in the Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Dr Sunil Gupta, local GP in Benfleet said:
‘We absolutely need to get the message to these communities that the vaccine is safe, easy and will protect you from this terrible disease, especially as those who are most hesitant are, sadly, the ones who are at higher risk. To achieve this, the NHS and its partners is reaching out to these people to hear their concerns and identify the best way to overcome their issues.’
