Green Business SOUTHERN AFRICA

2011 Welcome to a brand new title in our series of FM Essentials guides. Welcome to the second edition of Green Business in our series of FM Essentials guides. We are proud to announce that our valued clients are now listed as the first port of call for green service providers for the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development. Nedbank has secured the coveted sponsorship position, we are honoured to be partnered with them yet again. FME Green Business Guide is still our most comprehensive guide to date with 156 pages packed with everything you could possibly need to help you go “green”. The guide includes certified businesses that are already “green” conscious (actively monitoring their carbon offsets and who trade with other “green” businesses); together with service providers that will help you go green (from environmental and sustainability consultants and much more, to those offering eco-friendly products and services). With our compliments, let this directory help you and your company make that step into being part of the global movement in support of a sustainable future. The Green Business Guide will make it that much easier for you! Yet another “first time” guide will be published next – The Safety & Security Guide. Look out for this and 4 other guides during the course of 2011. Avis Rent a Car, 3 Brabazon Road, Isando Tel: 0861 02 1111 www.avis.co.za A year after becoming South Africa’s first carbon-neutral company in September 2009, Avis has been accelerating the momentum of its green drive with new insights and initiatives. Soon after its Carbon Neutral announcement, Avis introduced voluntary energy reduction initiatives to reduce its carbon emissions. Avis appointed energy management company, Energy Cybernetics, to measure its energy usage accurately. Duvenage says, “The audit established when and where the energy peaks or surges were occurring. We could then investigate why this was happening and take the necessary action,” he says. In May 2010, Avis appointed Enviroserv to assist with the management of its integrated waste management programme, which is largely focused on office waste, oil, windscreens and tyres. By June 2010, mixed recyclables, glass, cardboard and paper waste bins were introduced on all floors at head office and in all vehicle preparation depots and a waste sorting area was identified and set up on-site.

In 2007, Avis embarked on a quest to reduce water usage at its three major vehicle-cleaning facilities: OR Tambo International, Cape Town International and King Shaka International Airports. Today, Avis car-wash process machines recycle up to 88% of the water used, which is cleaned to 90% clarity and has significantly reduced the need for municipal water from over 220 litres to around 20 litres per car washed. The Avis Water Management process now saves our planet, in excess of 100 million

Accelerating our ‘Green’ Drive with New Insights and Initiatives! litres of water per annum, 75% of which is due to recycling. At the end of 2009, Avis began to reflect the carbon emissions on each rental invoice for its customers and started providing corporate customers with their combined account emissions on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. In due course, Avis intends introducing customer emissions off-set (Scope 3 CO2 emissions) into its programme. Duvenage says, “Taking sustainability seriously requires effort and energy, driven from the top and involving as many people as possible from within the organisation. It is inspirational and every business should be encouraged to introduce sustainable practices and initiatives into its strategies for one reason only – our planet and life itself are under threat of survival from rapid climate change caused by the growing emission of greenhouse gasses”. In addition, EnviroServ appointed an on-site manager at Avis head office to drive and coordinate further greening initiatives for the car rental company. Avis remains the only car rental company to offer Hybrid vehicles (Toyota Prius) for rental (since 2007).

From Our Forest to Your Floor! Visit our new showroom to view our distinctive collection of exotic hardwood flooring and decking. In an innovative move to ensure that our customers have peace of mind that our products are produced from a wellmanaged source, Bedson Flooring & Décor is growing its own sustainable forests. These forests are managed professionally, respecting bio-diversity in an environmentally approved project. A pruning operation is carried out so that the tree and its timber can grow virtually free of knots, which means that customers get the highest quality wood. In addition, the forests are grown solely for the purpose of making flooring and decking – no other intermediate products – which means the cutting of fewer trees! This is particularly relevant, because the company will not process more than 10 hectares per year out of the 2000 hectares, so that supply is secured forever. We are busy growing the forest for YOU so that this relationship, like our floors, is a solid one.

SA Leader in HVAC Cleaning Oxine-HVAC is registered by the EPA specifically for the sanitation and odour control of HVAC systems and ductwork, and is also a registered Tuberculocidal. The Need for Sanitation – The condensate which forms on the cooling coils, drip pan and duct work of air handling systems creates an ideal environment for the growth of bacteria, mould, mildew, fungi and yeasts. When applied to a pre-cleaned system, Oxine AD is extremely effective in reducing the harmful potential associated with this microbial contamination and odour control. Mechanical Cleaning – To enable absolute duct sanitation, the system must be mechanically cleaned using rotational sweepers, agitational whippers and duct auger extraction equipment for the removal of dust, debris, mould and other contaminates prior to using Oxine-HVAC. Fogging Equipment – Oxine AD is easily applied with the use of a hand-held fogger or air-driven sprayer. All commercial air handling systems should be treated regularly with Oxine AD to eliminate microbial growth. Note: To be applied by trained Concept Clean personnel. W W W. F M E S S E N T I A L S . Delivering Innovation and Value without Compromise Focus on energy efficiency Standard Electrical has a proud 64 year history in electrical engineering and contracting and has built up a solid reputation over the years. In a further exciting development for the company, a new division of Standard Electrical has been established to find ways of assisting Eskom with solutions to the country’s severely constrained electricity supply. The division, called Standard Energy, has assisted high profile property companies in successfully implementing energy efficiency strategies. Having been appointed as a Eskom Esco (energy services company), Standard Energy now has the ability to apply to Eskom for funding on behalf of it clients for their energy efficiency projects. Standard Energy has assisted one of South Africa’s leading privately owned property funds in saving 40% of its monthly electrical bill in a building in the Johannesburg CBD. Energy efficiency solutions have been implemented in a number of buildings for high profile property companies in their commercial, retail and industrial properties.

Earning its Reputation Standard Energy has completed an energy efficiency project at the Eskom Simmerpan site for Eskom. Is This the Greenest Lamp in the World? Power shortages, carbon reduction demands and high electricity consumption could be a thing of the past, with a little help from what is probably the most efficient lamp in the world! By simply changing the light ‘bulb’ from standard halogen 50W GU10 or 35W IRC lamps to this Eskom approved unique Aurora LED lamp, companies can now reduce their carbon footprint and improve their bank balances at the same time. International low energy specialist, Aurora Lighting has launched a direct replacement lamp which can be retrofitted, will need no maintenance for 35 000 hours and save 1.03 metric tons of carbon over its lifetime.

Eco Friendly Decowood Shutters Renovating or redecorating is not cheap, so when the shopping lists seem to stretch on longer than the budget does, tough decisions need to be made. Quality, cost, choices of styles and design often take priority over the ecofriendly nature of materials and finishes. These decisions are made more difficult by the fact that the greener the product, the bigger the price tag seems to be. AMERICAN shutters offer a welcome change to this perception. Our Decowood range of shutters is not only our most cost effective; it is also our most eco-friendly, giving you more green for your money. Wood is completely biodegradable and has much less of an environmental impact than other building material. Our Decowood shutters are made from the wood of rapidgrowth trees enabling tree replenishment at an extremely accelerated rate.

Your Window to Design The raw material is sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) plantations, but what makes our Decowood range the greenest shutter option is the fact that the engineered wood composite (individual wood fibres) production involves very little waste with up to 95% of a tree utilised opposed to the only 68% utilised to manufacture solid wood products. Green from start to finish, Decowood shutters are treated with a patented UV inhibiting polypropylene coating to protect the colour from fading in the harsh African sun and to resist chipping, peeling and cracking. Decowood is the perfect shutter range for the eco-conscious who refuse to compromise on choice, quality and style. The style, privacy, security, insulation and choice our shutters and blinds provide are no secret. For 25 years, AMERICAN shutters’ superior quality, professional service and extensive product range have added value to South African properties nationwide. W W W. F M E S S E N T I A L S . C O. Z A

B-earth guarantees durable colour palettes for all interior and exterior applications B-earth specialises in the manufacturing of a unique paint system that is similar to normal emulsion paint in terms of texture and physical characteristics. The environmental performance of the B-earth paint system is highlighted with respect to the two main toxic factors associated with paints: • No metallic releases, eg: lead and other toxic metals are not found in the system. • Low releases of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) during application and thereafter, i.e. the VOC contents of the products in the system are less than 5 grams per litre, which, according to international standards, are classified as 0 VOC paints. These environmental and quality aspects of the B-earth paint system translate into a high-quality exterior coating system, which can be applied to any surface, and which exceeds the international environmental requirements. In addition, the scrub resistance and cleanability of the system is extremely good, which, together with its low smell, non-toxic characteristics, also makes it a superior choice for indoor applications.

Creating a Greener City The City of Johannesburg is undoubtedly South Africa’s largest and most prosperous city, endowed with world-class infrastructure and relatively high levels of human capital. The city therefore is faced with enormous challenges such as development pressures emanating from urbanisation, poverty, high levels of unemployment and increased demand for basic services. The city has acknowledged that its economic development should be underpinned by sustainability principles. In this regard, some of the programmes undertaken include amongst others: regulatory services; pollution reduction; mitigating impacts of climate change; environmental education and capacity building. The Vision of The City of Johannesburg on the environment is: ‘An environmentally sustainable city, that anticipates, manages and reduces its vulnerability to potential global and local environmental shocks, and works consistently to reduce the impact of its own built environment and urban processes on the broader envelope of natural resources’.

Committed member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative To sell a wine, the experts say, create the story, seek quality, discover the location and find the point of difference. Our story: The farm Dwarsrivier, home of Cederberg Private Cellar, has been in the Nieuwoudt family since 1893. David Nieuwoudt, third-generation winemaker, is a member of the prestigious Cape Winemaker’s Guild. Quality: Globally, Cederberg Private Cellar has collected every possible award, from the world’s best shiraz to many a “best in its category” award. Location: Our “wines with altitude” are produced in the Cape’s highest-lying vineyards, in a cold climate without any coastal influences. A diverse range of soil types and the purest fountain water are some of the other magic ingredients. Point of difference: The farm is virus free, which means no diseases and no spraying. It is surrounded by 183 000 ha of unspoilt wilderness, home to the Cape Leopard Trust and part of the Greater Cederberg Biodiversity Corridor. W W W. F M E S S E N T I A L S . C O. Z A

Significantly four Reyneke Organic Wines (including two vintages of one wine) received these highly-acclaimed awards, illustrating the inexorable evolution in quality across Reyneke’s entire range of wines. This emphatic endorsement of their wine quality represents a milestone for Johan Reyneke, who made the bold and ethically inspired move in the late 1990s to start the very slow process of conversion to organic farming and the subsequent progression to biodynamic grape growing and winemaking. Johan has remained steadfast in his belief that organic and biodynamic wine farming is the route to coax the best wines from the earth, while remaining in environmental integrity. 1. NEDBANK GREEN WINE AWARDS The awards seek to recognise green wine producers. Reyneke Organic Wines won the top three wine awards; Best Overall Wine, Best White and Best Red.

Unlocking Nature Viticulturist Simon Grier has always been a keen supporter of maintaining environmentally friendly vineyard management practices. The farm has not sprayed insecticides for the past ten years and a flock of 1 000 Peking ducks are responsible for some natural pest control. There is a strong focus on water conservation, recycling and a greening project (currently in progress), which entails the planting of thousands of indigenous trees on the farm. This philosophy has led to a vibrant eco-system on the farm, including huge flocks of guinea fowl and pheasant as well as steenbok, Cape foxes, grey mongooses, porcupines and blue crane. Our focus for 2010 was green energy. So far, seven buildings have had solar domes installed and operate 80% of the time on natural sunlight. To generate solar power, approximately 950m2 of solar panels (manufactured in South Africa) have been mounted on cellar roofs capable of generating 132kW of power. This is the biggest roof mounted solar project in South Africa. From 2010 all Villiera wines will carry the Sustainability Seal issued by SAWIS (the SA Wine and Spirit Board).

Stellar. Organic. Fairtrade. Working with Nature. Changing Lives. Stellar Winery is South Africa’s largest producer of organic Fairtrade wine. Over 2 million bottles per annum are made for the local market and export destinations in Europe, the United Kingdom, USA, Canada and Asia. Situated in the semi-arid Namaqualand hamlet of Trawal, the cellar processes grapes from company-owned and independent organic producers in the Olifants River Valley. Stellar has achieved a number of “firsts” in the wine industry. It was the first organic winemaking operation in the world to gain the coveted Fairtrade certification and the first cellar in Africa to produce commercially viable no-sulphur-added wines. The organic vineyards and winemaking process are certified by Control Union Certifications, based in the Netherlands. The wines reflect their place of origin. The style is crisp, fruity whites from the cooler vineyards close to the Atlantic coast and brilliantly-coloured reds full of berry flavours. Our specialist no-added-sulphur range is one of Stellar’s most sought-after products. All Stellar wines are vegan friendly.

Reducing Your Carbon Footprint Reduce your carbon footprint With more organisations and businesses considering their carbon footprint, green printing is becoming a necessity, offering businesses a chance to conserve the environment. Global warming and limited resources are fast becoming a reality, and with the continuously growing demand on paper and other key supplies, forests and other natural resources are in danger of being depleted to meet the heavy strain of growing populations and bigger urban areas. A listed company can easily print an average of 78 million pages per year. This implicates the uprooting of 9200 trees, the usage of 27.5 million litres of water and the equivalent emissions of 175 motor vehicles. Our Managed Print Services – a very real eco-friendly practice, through which companies can drastically lower their carbon footprint, and make smarter choices for a greener future. Taking Action for the Environment Xstrata Coal South Africa in partnership with the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Eco-Schools Programme are promoting the importance of environmental awareness and education in the mainstream educational curriculum and communities. The project highlights Xstrata’s commitment to the sustainability of the environment beginning with educating our children for the future. EcoSchools is an internationally recognised programme of the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE) that accredits schools that make a commitment to continuously improve their school’s environmental performance. Now in its 8th year the Eco-Schools Programme has become a valuable curriculum framework for schools to work toward sustainable development goals. Since it was launched in South Africa in 2003, the number of schools that have registered have increased from 100 in the first year to over 1200 schools in 2010. Of these schools more than half have been working with the programme for two or more years

Balancing Social, Environmental & Economic Returns which is ultimately one of the core aims; ensuring that efforts for better environmental learning and action are sustained and become part of how schools are managed. Solar cookers, vegetable gardens, wetland restoration, healthy tuckshops and water tanks are just some of the concepts embraced by schools that are participating in the Eco-Schools Programme. For the past 3 years Xstrata Coal South Africa has spearheaded and supported the roll-out of the ES programme in Mpumalanga at both provincial and node level. More specifically Xstrata Coal has funded the regional coordination of Eco-Schools in MP as well as 3 nodes (clusters of 5 -10 schools).Testament to the support provided for Xstrata is the incredible expansion of the programme the province has experience from just 37 schools participating in 2007 to 124 at the end of 2010. Of these, 16 received their Green Flags in 2010, and 6 schools received their Gold Awards for four years of sustained environmental action and learning. W W W. F M E S S E N T I A L S . C O. Z A

Championing the cause of sustainable development Exxaro is a diverse resources group, with a portfolio spanning coal, mineral sands, base metals, industrial minerals and iron ore in South Africa, Australia, Namibia and China. With assets of R23 billion, Exxaro is a constituent of the JSE’s Top40 index and one of the 30 best performers on the JSE’s Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) index. Sustainable development has been a cornerstone of the group since its original formation in November 2006. For Exxaro this means ensuring it does not undermine the capacity of the natural environment to provide services, nor contribute to any instability in the communities in which it operates. It also means balancing three aspects of business – economic, environmental and social – and integrating the requirements of each of these into the group’s planning, decision-making and operations. In 2010, more than half of Exxaro’s revenue came from mining coal – an environmentally destructive operation on several levels, including the resultant carbon footprint.

Acknowledging this impact, the group established a formal energy and carbon management programme which includes a commitment to becoming carbon neutral. As part of this process, Exxaro aims to become a clean energy independent power producer for Southern Africa. The group has plans to install 2 000MW of renewable energy power-generation capacity by 2030 through a range of projects including: • West Coast wind project – a test mast is gathering data for a planned 50MW wind farm • The Tsitsikamma community wind project, with potential to harness 40MW of power, is in pre-feasibility phase • Namakwa Sands is conducting a feasibility study on cogeneration. Exxaro is also promoting sustainability at institutional level in South Africa by funding university chairs at a total capital investment of almost R28 million over the next seven years. “Responsible business practices remain a long-term value proposition for Exxaro. It makes business sense to invest in creating a sustainable environment in which to operate based on universal values, accountability and transparency. Foskor’s Acid Division in Richards Bay undertook a comprehensive survey regarding the condition and suitability of systems serving current and future needs. A project to upgrade the infrastructure and the design of new sub-soil drains and improved storm water systems is ongoing. Furthermore, the Acid Division’s road remediation project is improving the quality of the roads in the area, whilst the new raised barriers prevent seepages or polluted water reaching the sea. The project includes a truck-stop facility where up to 18 road trucks waiting to be loaded with fertilizer and acid can park.

Environmentally Responsible Printing Paarl Media’s commitment in developing stringent environmental policies is reflected by an investment of more than R100 million in environmentally responsible practices to ensure the lowest possible impact on our natural resources. The Paarl Media Group led the way in South Africa in 2005 by installing Regenerative Thermal Oxidisers (RTO’s) to service all web presses to eliminate harmful emissions in line with stringent international standards. Energy is recovered from the oxidisation process to be re-utilised in the drying section; thereby also vastly reducing gas energy consumption. All the web presses also run alcohol free and volatile organic compound free, vegetable-based inks are used on the sheetfed presses. On the gravure presses, the evaporated ink solvent, Toluene, is recovered and sold back to the ink manufacturers for re-use. The used gravure copper skins from engraved cylinders are recycled and copper is recovered. All waste paper generated is recycled using sophisticated baling facilities at all the plants. W W W. Committed to Sustainable Development Recycling and re-use of construction waste plays a vital role in reducing the usage of energy, reducing the requirement of land for landfills and the need for natural resources. The recycling and re-use of materials is beneficial since it puts waste material back into the production cycle. In other words, part of the normally un-used materials on-site are accounted for. Our process is relatively simple: We accept clean and mixed builder’s rubble from all waste management and construction companies at nominal handling costs to these companies. The material is then screened and the waste which cannot be recycled is removed and disposed of at the designated landfill sites. The rest of the material is sorted and the builder’s rubble is processed through crushing and selected screening. The products generated from the process are tested regularly to meet the requirements of the Civil Engineering Industry. W W W. F M E S S E N T I A L S . C O. Z A

Glass Going Green Glass recycling is a social issue that relies not only on consumer support; it needs the muscle of corporate South Africa behind it to ensure we move towards a “greener”, cleaner, brighter future. As a country we have definitely changed our recycling behaviours with an excess of 100% growth in glass volumes recycled over the last four years. But SA still has a long way to go as far as recycling is concerned, so adopting practices that support the move to recover, reuse, and recycle glass will help corporates reduce their carbon footprint, thereby ensuring they’re part of a bigger picture that has sustainable “green” solutions at its centre. Recycle – It’s the Right Thing To Do On-site sorting and cleaning If you generate waste, you should have a waste area. Any waste area is a risk that should be managed by a professional. Our staff will keep your waste area clean; dose your fat traps and drains with “Effective Microbes” to consume fatty deposits and remove odours; and wash your wheelie bins and floors regularly. Waste reduction “If we cannot save you money, we don’t get involved” is our motto. This means that we will do a waste audit free of charge, apply our formulas to your current waste stream, and if we can reduce the waste you send to landfill, we will propose a tailor-made service to manage your waste. For each kilogram of waste that we remove from the waste stream, you will see a two-fold benefit of reduction in landfill cost, and income from the recycling of that kilogram. In other words, where other companies focus on the removal of waste, our aim is protecting the environment through waste reduction and recycling, as well as saving you money.

On Our Way Forward, We’ve Taken Cues from Nature In an age of increasing operational costs, a large focus is being placed on businesses becoming more environmentally aware and energy efficient. The average office printer left on overnight can consume as much energy as is required to print 1500 pages. Being aware of such factors within a business can save it exponential amounts immediately, let alone over a year or longer. Ricoh’s commitment to sustainability in its own company practices is not only proof of its standing in the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World,” but a commitment that its knowledge and expertise is continuously improving its sustainability. This is passed on to all of its customers through the specialist office and managed document solutions that it sells. Ricoh combines ecological concerns with the best business strategies to drive environmental conservation and profitability simultaneously. Sustainable innovation is at the heart of how Ricoh does business and underpins Ricoh as the partner of choice when moving ideas forward in your business.

Harvesting Natural Energy, Saving You Money Solar Beam, the longest operating alternative energy specialist in Southern Africa, has a 34-year track record in both industrial and domestic solar water heating. A large retirement home in Durban has halved their water heating bill after installing a 20 000 litre system – see graph prepared by Eskom’s independent measurement and verification consultants. Silveray Manufacturing, part of the Bidvest Group, won an award for energy saving for the Ethekweni Region after Solar Beam installed a 6 000 litre system. On the domestic front, Solar Beam has installed numerous household water heaters that have saved thousands of rand on electrical bills. Solar Beam takes pride in offering a 100% South African product, designed and manufactured for our harsh conditions. Unlike many imported products, Solar Beam’s equipment has stood the test of time.
