Pro 2025

The adaptive nature of media, ondemand access, flexibility and the ‘second screen’ – with all of that and more, the new viewer evidently has more power to yield. While interests lie across a slew of content in the form of video, sport, social, gaming and now the rising popularity of podcasts, no single media form commands the viewer’s complete focus and attention. And platforms vie for a share of the entertainment hours. As technology skirts the MENA media and entertainment industry, stakeholders are faced with newer revenue opportunities. User penetration surges ahead with the proliferation of smart devices and an eager young population that’s shifting to vertical viewing. They want content ‘to grab’ and in ‘brief bursts’.

All these present challenges as well as prospects for platforms and advertisers and other media formats employed to elevate scale and expand reach. Reports suggest that the market value of the media and entertainment industry in the MENA, which was valued at 15.7 billion dollars in 2022 is expected to increase to 22 billion dollars by 2027. The region shows consistent development across all forms of digital media, and video shows above average growth. As the industry moves ahead guided by trends and figures and

statistics, another potential form continues to spread its influence – AI. An all-too-familiar tool today, its limitless power dominates the frontlines, spearheading efficiency, reducing costs and driving investment in the sector. The future of entertainment looks promising as AI unleashes a force that is perhaps inexhaustible. Each year when we ponder and deliberate MENA’s increasingly fragmented but potentially viable space, it is when we bring out another edition of our regular fixture, the PRO book. This time around, an elite raft of companies are featured, and as always, they span a gamut of names that are core to the entire broadcast spectrum. Manufacturers and satellite operators, consultants and distributors, systems integrators and service providers and others who are invisibly banded together to make up all the entertainment that goes on behind the screens, and is relayed to us anytime and anywhere, and across multiple media formats – those that literally enrich the experience….read on.

MENA Media: A growing industry set for a step-change in growth?

As I sat down to write this introduction to the PROBook, I wondered whether I could write it without mentioning the ‘A’ word. Perhaps I could write about the expected overall growth in the media sector, driven by the same trend of the shift to digital off the back of expanding mobile and broadband penetration. Or maybe I could write about the expanding cinema sector, driven by the growth in the Saudi market. What about the story of how Arabic video and regional platforms have held their ground in the face of global SVOD players. Gaming is certainly interesting, with not only casual mobile gaming continuing to grow, but significant regional investments in e-sports punching above our regional weight. Or, how about the steady rise of audio streaming and live music? All worthy topics.

Our region continues to show above average growth across digital media. Video, audio, gaming, publishing and advertising are all growing in their digital incarnations. Governments in the GCC continue to invest in infrastructure, talent and content. The future looks bright, and the story is there to tell. But alas, it looms large in our psyche – the ‘A’ word. Whether it’s Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai saying AI 27 times in a 15-minute keynote, the ubiquitous ‘THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING’ LinkedIn posts or the near daily warnings of the impending arrival of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), you would be forgiven for thinking that by the end of this year, AI, and in particular its Generative flavour (GenAI), would have become the master of the human race, rendering us mere servants to its almighty presence.

Why bother with the media industry when we are all going to become slaves to AI within 12 months?

In 1973, a rather prescient researcher and scientist called Roy Amara coined his eponymous law. Amara’s Law states humans overestimate technology’s impact in the short term and underestimate it in the long term. With that perspective in mind, consider that the GenAI tools we see today are the equivalent of seeing the first cell phone in 1973 and being expected to predict mobile

internet; or seeing the Netscape browser in 1994 and being expected to foresee social media’s proliferation. We are in very early days, albeit moving at a rapid pace. So rapid in fact, that in the two months between submitting this draft and you being able to read it, there may have been yet another new milestone in GenAI performance, and LinkedIn will be changing everything all over again.

Yet the impact of GenAI is palpable today. Sipping coffee with a well-known film maker, he casually mentioned

saving $70k on special effects for a documentary that cost less than a million to make. That’s not trivial. And it is with the tools available today. If the hundreds of billions of dollars being poured into GenAI around the world yield the expected results, the tools of tomorrow will be much more capable.

And so armed with this appreciation for the potential of this technology, let’s take a tour of the MENA media sector to understand its growth prospects and how GenAI may boost its growth trajectory.

Overall MENA Media Sector

The story of the overall MENA media sector is one of growth, fuelled by mobile and broadband penetration and a young digitally savvy population. According to Strategy&’s annual Global Entertainment and Media Outlook, the MENA media sector’s revenues are dominated by digital, which is expected to account for 74% of total revenues by 2028. This should not be a surprise to anyone reading this book. Some, however, may be surprised to know that our region is digitising faster from a revenue perspective, than the rest of the world’s 68% average.

The MENA media sector’s development is also an uneven story. While the term ‘MENA’ implies activity across more than 20 countries, Saudi Arabia and the UAE account for more than half of the overall revenues. Yet this does not preclude the crossborder movement of talent. Nor does it contradict the presence of strong regional production centres serving the larger markets.

The MENA media sector is also shifting towards advertising generating 51% of its total revenues

for the first time by 2028, as opposed to the 49% of consumer spending on games, magazines, recorded music and the like. It all sounds so rosy I hear you say. Why then isn’t everyone putting on their party hats and celebrating all the way to the bank? Because underlying all this growth is a fundamentally subscale sector that struggles to make ends meet. Much of the investment in the sector is government-led rather than private-sector-led. Our advertising market should be much larger. Our export potential is yet to be realised. We don’t have as many large financially robust media companies as we should. (Go ahead and count them. You will have change from 10 fingers.) We don’t make as many films as we should, and the ones we have aren’t as big budget as they should be. We don’t produce as much music as we should. We don’t make as many games as we should. Our newspapers haven’t bitten the digital transformation bullet as hard as they should. We excel at consumption, yet we lag in content creation. We consume ads, but we don’t keep the

INTRODUCTION 9

ad dollars. We play games, but we don’t keep the in-game revenue. Before you throw away this book in despair, hold on. There is hope. We have young and adaptable talent. We have, in some markets, governments that want to enable the private sector. We have a culture rich in storytelling, a history of leapfrogging, such as from terrestrial to satellite, and from fixedvoice networks to mobile broadband. This is where GenAI can be the stepchange we are looking for. The tool that empowers our creators to think big, reduces the operating costs of our media companies, and enables more quality and quantity of Arabic content to be created. And while I am on a roll, let’s dream of becoming a significant exporter of content too. (While writing this, a YouTube music channel is playing in the background on my CTV. So far 80% of the ads have been for washing-up liquid or skin cream. Either targeting is still waiting for Godot, or I’m being punished for opting out of something many moons ago. Anyway, I digress.)

Let’s break down the sectors one by one, starting with my favourite: video.

Figure 2: Video Sub-Segment Revenue Share

MENA Gaming Sector

The gaming sector follows a similarly positive trajectory, growing at 4.4% annually. Mobile gaming leads the way, with casual gaming dominating due to accessibility and social interactivity. E-sports, though small, is expanding rapidly, driven by investments in Saudi Arabia, which is positioning itself as the global e-sports hub.

MENA Video Sector

The top-line view of video is positive. Streaming revenue is growing at nearly seven percent, outpacing traditional TV (by the way, if you have figured out the naming nomenclature for video, drop me a line. ‘Traditional’ used to mean linear, but now we have linear on streaming). Cinema is growing at nearly eight percent, although both figures are skewed by the Saudi market which represents half of video revenues. AVOD is growing at double the rate of SVOD, which is expected given the disparity in ability to pay. Some regional streamers have held their ground against global competitors, who have been not invested as much in Arabic originals as originally anticipated.

So how can GenAI improve MENA video? On the creative side, it may scale up production capability. Our films and series will have more sophisticated visuals and effects for a fraction of today’s cost. We may need less costly infrastructure and less imported talent. Development costs should decrease, allowing more

ideas to make it to commissioners. Dubbing will become smarter, potentially increasing the appeal of our content for other markets. On the operations side, it may lower costs for marketing, rights management and promos, thus improving financials. It can also improve understanding of audiences through analytics.

GenAI stands to further accelerate this growth by reducing the barriers to entry in game development through faster development times, the ability to create more sophisticated worlds and characters through procedural content generation, real-time voice synthesis, and GenAI-powered animation. By automating tasks such as level design, character development and dialogue generation, GenAI allows the region’s smaller indie studios to compete with larger international players. These advancements promise a more vibrant gaming ecosystem, boosting local game development and making

Figure 3: Gaming Sub-Segment Revenue Share

local narratives easier to integrate into more higher quality games.

MENA Audio Sector

The audio sector, encompassing music streaming, live music and radio, is growing. As expected, music streaming accounts for most of the growth. Streaming in MENA is growing much faster than the global average, primarily due to our relatively smaller base. Live music continues to be a stalwart for Arab singers to generate revenues. GenAI in audio is not a straightforward topic. Technically, it is already capable of creating new music from deceased or contemporary artists. It is also capable of creating virtual music artists and podcast hosts that can be visualised through GenAI avatars. While GenAI could greatly democratise access to highquality audio content and significantly increase the number of Arabic songs produced at a fraction of the cost, questions around authenticity and artist rights will be paramount.

MENA Publishing Sector

It is no secret that publishing is in decline in the MENA and around the world. Growth in digital revenues has not offset the lost circulation and advertising revenues for most publishers. In the region, newspapers and magazines have been generally slower than their

international counterparts in their digital transformation. While the will to transform must come from the publishers themselves, GenAI offers the means to dramatically reduce operating costs through automating much of the mundane work that does not contribute to differentiating one publisher’s content from another’s. With that, journalists can focus on deeper investigative reporting and more interesting stories. Reporters who can build connections with their audiences will elevate their profile and attract more readership. Publishers in the meantime, can use the operating savings to diversify across the blurred lines of print, video and audio.

MENA Advertising

While advertising revenues are set to grow, the business of making, buying and selling advertising continues to undergo multiple pressures to consolidate, streamline and survive on thinner margins.

Figure 4: Audio Sub-Segment Revenue Share
Figure 5: Publishing Sub-Segment Revenue Share

Figure 6: Advertising Sub-Segment Revenue Share

GenAI may help in lowering production costs, allow for more version testing and improve analytics. However, it may also commoditise much of the work carried out by agencies and media buyers and further increase the dominance of the global ‘big tech’ companies in digital advertising. Will leaner independent

local creative agencies gain an upper hand over international agencies with higher cost structures? Or will those agencies adapt to leaner operating models themselves. Time will tell.

The Way Forward

I realise I have painted one scenario of the future of the MENA media

industry and it is an admittedly optimistic scenario. Many things may not go according to plan. The financial vulnerability of the sector may not withstand the type of transformation that is needed. There will be implications on jobs, skills and funding.

Yet, our current situation is one where our healthy top-line revenue growth is not translating into a robust financially viable ecosystem of media companies. We should be creating and monetising globally competitive content for and beyond the region. Business-as-usual is not an option. Optimism is a necessary mindset. This potentially disruptive force of GenAI may be an opportunity for another one of the region’s leapfrogging moments. We have investment capital, young adaptable digitally savvy talent and we have rich stories to tell. This is our moment, should we choose to take it.

Your end-to-end media platform

Backlight cuts through the complexity of modern media production with straightforward solutions that work for global teams. Media professionals turn to Backlight when they need smart, practical tools that simplify how content is created, managed, shared and monetised. Rather than piecing together disconnected systems, broadcasters and production teams find in Backlight a refreshingly clear approach to media workflow challenges.

Its standout platforms include Iconik for intelligent media management and Wildmoka for lightning-fast digital clip production, channel creation and content distribution. These solutions have earned their place in leading media organisations through real-world performance – intuitive enough for daily use, yet powerful enough for the most demanding production environments.

With teams positioned worldwide, Backlight provides hands-on support that keeps clients’ operations running smoothly across time zones and borders. The company’s growing influence in broadcast technology stems from its practical approach: building tools that solve genuine problems faced by studios, networks and businesses today.

Products

Iconik

Iconik is the cloud-based media management system that streamlines disparate media workflows. Built for teams that don’t all work under the same roof, it connects people to their content whether in the studio, at home, or halfway around the world. Its AI capabilities automatically tag and catalogue content, turning the dreaded ‘where’s that footage?’ question into a simple search that finds and delivers the asset you need. Iconik bridges the gap between cloud storage and on-site servers without forcing you to overhaul existing infrastructure. Teams using Iconik spend less

time managing files and more time creating. Comments, feedback and approvals happen directly within the platform – no more endless email chains or confusion about which version is current. The system plays nicely with the tools creative teams already use daily, from Adobe’s suite to DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. Security doesn’t come as an afterthought – Iconik lets you set precise controls for who sees what, while scaling smoothly as your media library grows from hundreds to thousands of assets. It’s a media management that adjusts to how you work, than forcing you to adapt to another rigid system.

Wildmoka

When breaking news hits or a gamewinning goal is scored, Wildmoka helps media teams clip, edit and publish faster than viewers can refresh their social feeds.

Built for the cloud from day one, Wildmoka handles surge demands without breaking a sweat – whether it’s Olympic finals or election night coverage. The interface strips away unnecessary complexity and anyone can create clips ready for digital channels.

Getting content onto multiple platforms meant repetitive, error-prone processes and a whole studio of people. Wildmoka reduces this to essentially a single click, while maintaining your brand’s distinct look across websites, apps and social channels. It adapts content formats to each destination’s requirements, including short-form, vertical video and live content.

Beyond clipping, Wildmoka brings production-level tools to digital content – generating highlights packages, inserting graphics on the fly and tracking what resonates with your audience. Content that once took hours to prepare now reaches audiences in moments, creating new opportunities to grow viewership and engagement.

Empowering Creative Teams with a Media Platform for the Future

Major broadcasters have adopted Backlight solutions for their collaboration capabilities, cloud scalability and cost efficiency. In addition to improving workflow efficiency, Iconik and Wildmoka notably reduce technical complexity compared to legacy systems, enhancing productivity across teams.

Iconik provides a flexible infrastructure for media management with precise control over assets and workflows. From breaking news to viral moments, Wildmoka helps capture and deliver timely content to audiences faster, and with significantly lower costs and headcount than traditional on-premises solutions.

With Iconik, Wildmoka and the rest of Backlight’s suite, creative teams can future-proof their media operations and continue to engage audiences, wherever they are.

Integrated Suite of Solutions

Backlight replaces broken media workflows with simple, AI-powered products designed to make teams faster and businesses stronger. Through its integrated suite of solutions, including Iconik, Cinesync, Ftrack, Celtx, Wildmoka and Zype, the company empowers creative and production teams to focus on crafting compelling stories that drive impact. Purpose-built for the most demanding media operations in the world, companies like PFF (Pro Football Focus), BFM2, FranceTV, and NowThis depend on Backlight technology to give them a competitive advantage. The company takes these partnerships seriously and continuously innovates its portfolio. And by staying ahead alongside partners, Backlight knows exactly what it takes to make impactful content at scale.

The best KVM solutions for professional broadcasters

Guntermann & Drunck (G&D) is regarded as a leading manufacturer of KVM and video processing solutions, offering an extensive range of extenders, switches and matrix systems that enable effective management of keyboard, video and mouse signals. With more than 40 years of expertise, G&D supplies numerous broadcasters worldwide, providing comprehensive support from consultation to aftersales. Their systems facilitate flexible and efficient control, ideal for broadcast production environments.

Products

KVM Extenders

G&D’s KVM extenders enable you to operate your computers over IP structures or dedicated cabling over long distances with realtime performance. Using KVM extenders makes your workplace more ergonomic and increases the security of your IT infrastructure.

KVM Switches

KVM switches from G&D improve the efficiency and ergonomics of

your workplace. Operate multiple computers using just one mouse, one keyboard and up to four monitors.

KVM Matrix Systems

KVM matrix systems make it easy for you to operate complex IT infrastructures by being able to access many computers from many workplaces.

Video Processing

G&D’s video processing solutions enable the flexible organisation and operation of your video inputs on one or more displays. Create your workplace or video wall as unique as your application.

Operating Features

G&D’s products and systems are designed for simple and intuitive operation. For example, the CrossDisplay-Switching function is designed for multi-monitor working environments where several computers are accessed at the same time. The user’s mouse acts as if it is on a ‘virtual desktop’ and can be moved seamlessly across the connected displays. When the cursor moves from one display to another, the keyboard/

mouse focus automatically switches to the connected computer. This allows users to intuitively operate multiple systems simultaneously with just one keyboard and mouse.

Enhancing Broadcast Efficiency

KVM systems allow operators to manage multiple computers from a single console, thus streamlining the workflow. By facilitating seamless switching and control over multiple computer sources on one screen, KVM solutions ensure operators can focus on delivering high-quality content without the physical constraints of traditional setups. This multi-viewing approach increases efficiency and improves scalability and flexibility in broadcast operations by enabling real-time adjustments and monitoring across various platforms.

The PersonalWorkplaceController: The

All-rounder

for Workplaces

The PersonalWorkplace-Controller revolutionises workplace flexibility by seamlessly integrating multiple video signals on a single large monitor or multiple displays. Resolutions of up to 5K60 are supported, allowing users to configure their workplace according to their individual requirements, resulting in increased productivity and ergonomics. In addition to the clear display of all processes on just one monitor or multiple monitors, all required data can be accessed simultaneously and flexibly. Compatibility with traditional broadcast setups is ensured by

the integration of HD-SDI through the PersonalWorkplace-CPU. This allows users to maintain current infrastructure while expanding capabilities with modern digital video and streaming sources. It is valuable for broadcasters who rely on established workflows and equipment, as their operations can be improved without the need for costly upgrades or overhauls. Users can also optimise workspace by reducing clutter and minimising distractions by consolidating multiple sources on a single monitor or multiple monitors. This increases efficiency and improves collaboration and decision-making by providing a clear and comprehensive overview of all relevant content.

The PersonalWorkplace-Controller offers flexibility to stream content to different output devices so that important information can be accessed from anywhere. This versatility is particularly beneficial in environments where mobility is essential.

Strengthening Activities in the ME

G&D has recently expanded its presence to serve the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Tamby Alasker, Director of Sales, who brings over 15 years of expertise in AV and KVM

solutions for mission-critical applications, is proud to announce the opening of a new office and showroom in Studio City. True glass-to-glass solution for the AV world

Complete IP workflow from capture to delivery

Glass-to-Glass: A New Window of Opportunity for Content Production

‘Glass-to-Glass’ is a phrase increasingly talked about in the world of content production but what is it and why does it matter? Simply put, it is the content production process from lens capture through to ultimate display.

Glass-to-glass simplifies the capture to delivery process, making it faster, more flexible and more costeffective. There are an increasing number of areas where this solution is applicable. They range from traditional broadcasting, to live and web streaming of events, such as eSports competitions and music concerts, and the delivery of e-learning or business content.

Glass-to-Glass in Operations

Panasonic glass-to-glass solutions can be seen in a wide variety of different uses such as in eSports. With eSports expanding rapidly and attracting millions of followers,

this new phenomenon has its own unique challenges when sharing tournament action with fans in the stadium or streaming action to viewers around the world.

Panasonic has unique elements within its glass-to-glass solution to address these issues. For example, thanks to optional OLPF, Panasonic’s new AK-UCX100 camera system prevents any potential issues with unwanted moiré screen patterns when using LED screens, which are commonplace in eSports studios.

For adding augmented and virtual reality effects to productions, the AW-UE160, the AW-UE150A, as well as the AW-UE80 PTZ 4K cameras support the FreeD protocol. They can be used by the most popular virtual set systems such as Brainstorm, Ross, The Future Group, Vizrt and Zero Density. These types of cameras are also perfect for capturing multiple headshots of studio-based or remote players while remaining unobtrusive.

Blended Learning in Education

The implementation of blended learning in higher education has fundamentally changed the classroom set-up and the technology required for teaching effectively. These deployments

typically use 4K remote controlled PTZ cameras with NDI options for lecture capture, IP-based automated presenter tracking by movement or audio, and cloud-based lecture capture systems, alongside professional production mixers and switchers and the latest projection and display technology.

The University of Kassel in Germany has installed Panasonic’s glass-toglass education solution that enables them to capture, mix, distribute and display video for both on-demand and remote learning sessions.

Live Production

Major live production companies such as Creative Technology have been adopting Panasonic solutions for their projects around the world. These include Panasonic’s high brightness projectors, studio cameras, PTZs and KAIROS, for example at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, where Creative Technology Sweden was the official event supplier. Leading, full-service UK AV rental, production and virtual event company, CPL, opted for Panasonic’s stateof-the-art live video production platform, KAIROS, with the ATKC2000S1 mainframe, along with

the AK-UC4000 studio camera chains and AW-UE160 PTZ cameras.

KAIROS was part of its overarching migration to using the SMPTE ST 2110 IP-based transmission standard, removing much of the intermediary kit and cabling at Camper Calling. It has also simplified the deployment and set-up process, seamlessly integrating with existing technology, and providing cutting-edge solutions for live festivals and events.

As content producers continue to come under increasing pressure to deliver more and more content, faster and with less budget, the adoption of glass-to-glass solutions is a sure-fire way to ease the burden.

adapt quickly ensuring they remain cost-effective and competitive.

Pebble in the MENA

Pebble’s suite of solutions manages complex workflows and offer straightforward expansion capability as requirements change.

The option to display user interfaces in Arabic allows dynamic graphics control with Arabic text, providing fast turnaround compliance workflows

with features to easily manage prayer breaks in their schedules. Over the past two years, Pebble has experienced significant growth and development within its UAE operations. To strengthen the regional team, Pebble made four important appointments: Ziad Sanbar was promoted as Regional Solutions Manager, Christian Mesmar, serving as Product Trainer and Customer Fulfilment Engineer relocated from the UK and Belkacem Hennane was welcomed as new addition to the team.

Key Pebble customers in the MENA territory include Al-Jazeera Media Network, Bahrain Radio and Television, Qatar TV, Oman TV, Jordan TV, Egyptian TV, BeIN Media Group, Bloomberg Al-Sharq, Dubai Media Incorporated, E&, OSN Network, Jordan Media City, CNBC Arabiya, Nilesat, AL-Mashhad and many more.

Automation Solutions

Pebble’s enterprise automation software platform delivers robust, best-in-class functionality and can flex and adapt as needs change. It controls missioncritical operations and is scalable from one to hundreds of channels. Its distributed architecture means resources can be utilised over multiple

servers, and its selection of device drivers gives broadcasters freedom to deploy the technology that best fits the needs of their channels, whether legacy SDI devices or the latest IP and hybrid cloud technologies.

Integrated Channel

Pebble’s scalable Integrated Channel device offers audio, video and graphics functionality in a compact, cost-effective format to meet ingest, channel branding and frame-accurate multi-channel playout requirements. It replicates in software all the functionality of a traditional broadcast playout chain made up of singlepurpose devices performing dedicated functions. It can be customised for all channel types, from tightly scheduled ‘static’ channels to highly reactive channels with multiple content formats, complex graphics and live inserts. With SD/HD/UHD video server, master control switcher, subtitling, captioning and channel branding functionality, this solution is installed across a variety of broadcast applications including tier one premium channels, regional commercial insertion, fast to market or short-term channels, disaster recovery centres and content ingest. Supporting the conversion of a range

of compression and file formats, it can mix legacy SD content with new HD and UHD material in the same playlist.

Remote

Pebble Remote delivers secure, web-based monitoring, management and control of playout environments across single or multi-site operations. As broadcasters scale their services and adopt hybrid workflows, Remote provides a centralised overview of critical systems, helping teams stay in control – wherever they are. Its configurable dashboards offer flexible, real-time access to live status, playlist editing, ingest resource management and low-latency outputs from Pebble Integrated Channel devices. Designed for operational efficiency, Remote enables teams to identify and respond to issues quickly, without relying on multiple operators or physical access to the facility. Whether used for on-premises, cloud-based or hybrid deployments, Pebble Remote simplifies multichannel operations. From missioncritical playlist control to intelligent ingest scheduling, it delivers intuitive interfaces, secure access and seamless integration with Pebble Automation.

High-powered satellites for the region

Es’hailSat, the Qatar Satellite Company, is the national satellite operator for the State of Qatar based in Doha. Es’hailSat was established in 2010 to manage and develop Qatar’s presence in space. The company provides independent, high-quality, advanced satellite services to broadcasters, businesses and governments across the MENA region and beyond.

Satellites – Es’hail-1 / Es’hail-2

Es’hailSat started operations of its first satellite Es’hail-1 in 2013, supporting key broadcasters in the region, beIN Sports and Al Jazeera Media Network. Located at 25.5⁰E,

Es’hail-1 carries Ku-band and Kaband payloads, and supports broadcast, telecommunications and government sectors. Es’hailSat also helps establish secure and dedicated services including DTH, playout, broadband internet access, corporate networks, backhauling and mission critical services using fixed or mobile antennas.

Es’hail-2, the company’s second satellite was launched in 2018 and is co-located with Es’hail-1 at the MENA broadcast hotspot of 25.5⁰E/26⁰E orbital location. Es’hail-2 is a highpowered, advanced satellite with both Ku-band and Ka-band capabilities

to provide for TV distribution, telecoms and government services.

Es’hailSat delivers premium satellite capacity in the MENA region together with a 50,000 sq.m Teleport facility that is WTA Tier-4 certified in addition to having multiple ISO certifications. Es’hail-1 and Es’hail-2 further boost broadcasting and global connectivity for Qatar and the entire MENA region. Having both Ku-band and Ka-band capacity at the 25.5⁰E/26⁰E hotspot position enables Es’hailSat to provide the region with the most advanced and sophisticated services in broadcast, telecommunications and broadband.

Tier-4 Certified Teleport for MENA

The Es’hailSat Teleport is a 50,000 sq.m facility which is WTA Tier-4 certified and provides satellite Telemetry, Tracking and Commanding (TT&C) operations and capacity management, together with a wide range of teleport services such as uplink, downlink, contribution, multiplexing, encoding, playout, VSAT hub services, hosting services, data centre, cloud and a host of other services for the company’s stakeholders, customers and business partners.

Solving Challenges of Interference for MENA Broadcasters

As secure transmissions continue to be of paramount importance in the MENA region, Es’hailSat is working with various parties to reduce and eliminate satellite interference and provide secure transmission networks for its customers. Es’hailSat satellites have been designed and built with anti-jamming capabilities that help avoid any intentional or unintentional interference. This is critical for customers operating mission critical work and for broadcasters who value uninterrupted signals. In addition, geo-location system is available at the teleport to accurately identify origins of any interference and take appropriate action with or against the interfering party.

Premium Content on

Es’hail-1 and Es’hail-2 Es’hail-1 and Es’hail-2 demonstrate the value of Es’hailSat’s offering in terms of technical capabilities and performance, and in terms of independence and security of the content broadcast. In addition to providing transmission for established news, sports and entertainment channels, a growing number of new channels from around the region are choosing Es’hailSat to broadcast across the MENA region making 25.5⁰E/26⁰E truly a hotspot for satellite TV channels.

Broadcast Services

Operating from the MENA orbital hotspot of 25.5⁰E/26⁰E, covering key consumer markets in the GCC and North Africa, Es’hailSat’s high-powered satellites provide key infrastructure to networks and broadcasters to distribute TV channels directly to consumers via small satellite dishes.

Customers can leverage on Es’hailSat’s satellites and teleport infrastructure with services such as playout, linear TV, video-on-demand and high-definition TV among others. Es’hailSat recently launched playout and media services as well as Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) and OB van services catering to Qatar and the MENA region.
