1965 The All American program has its first contest. There were 7 classes with All American and Reserve All Americans for females only. Wisconsin captures 7 of the available 14 awards in this National Program. All American Aged Cow - Tillies Beauty Bell – Dr. Nathan E. Bear & Ralph Bright, Brodhead Res All American Four Yr. Old - Norvic Sunwise Loa – Norvic Farm, Lake Mills All American Three Yr. Old - Lane’s Wood Hope - Meythaler-Cold Springs Farm, Monroe All American Senior Yearling - Norvic Sunwise Chippy Delight - Norvic Farm All American Junior Yearling - V.B. Madam Milunda 1963 – Voegeli Farms, Monticello Voegeli, Howard and Jake, Res All American Junior Yearling - Norvic Lilason’s Sigrid Premier Breeder 1963 – Norvic Farm Res All American Heifer Calf - Cold Springs Dreaming Lillian - Meythaler-Cold Springs Farm Prior to the All American’s, there was the Bell Ringer Judging Contest started in 1957. Individual states had their own winners that would then compete at a national level. These programs overlapped for several years before the Bell Ringer contest was discontinued. This program was restarted in 1970 as the National Junior Bell Ringer Contest for the youth.

February 18, 1966 Wisconsin’s 50th Year - WI President Goodwin Jacobson, Burlington presides over the “Golden Anniversary” Convention. Darrell Worden, VP; Barry Fox, Waterloo, Sec.; David Viney, Evansville, Treas. A list of the guests attending: Marvin Kruse, National Sec., Ron Johnson, Cent. Fieldman, Dave Garthwaite, Bulletin Editor; Al Bringe, George Werner, Jim Crowley, Tony Sendelbach and Clarence Olson, all from the UW. Gene Meyer, Hoard’s Dairyman; Bob Bjorkland, WI State Journal; Gene Divine, Milwaukee Sentinel; Jerry Dunphy, Beloit Daily News; Bill Hoeft, WTMJ Radio; Tom Burgess, American Dairy Assoc; Marlow Nelson & DuWayne Kutz, Tri-State Breeders; Al Weeks, Commodity Credit Corp; Al Block, East Cent. Breeders. There were three pages of coverage in the March Bulletin. February 19, 1966 50th Golden Anniversary State Sale held the day following the State Meeting at the Dane Co. Fairgrounds. 41 head ave. $360.25. Top is the 1965 Res. All American Junior Yearling, Norvic Lilason’s Sigrid, at $850 to Howard Prather, IA. John Voegeli, Arlington, consigned the top 4-H calf bringing $255. Junior officers are Pres. John Wegmueller, Monroe; Vice Pres. Joyce Uglow, Burlington; Sec.-Treas. Mary Viney, Evansville; Publicity, Paul Hasse, Logansville.

1966 There were only 3 Brown Swiss cows ever scored “6E”. All three had WI ties. The program was eventually changed and “5E” became the top score allowed. V.B. Susanna Liege “6E” - Had a lifetime over 9500 lbs. fat. Bred and owned by Voegeli Farm, Monticello. 3rd Age Cow Int. Chicago 1955. Susanna was sired by Judd’s Bridge Liege. Her dam Vronicka Susanna was the first cow in the breed to reach 9004 fat lifetime. HyCrest Rachel “6E” - Bred by HyCrest Farm, MA and owned by Meythalers-Cold Spring Farm, Monroe. She was the dam of Hycrest Royal Jester, Grand Champion, Waterloo 1962, who stood at Piper Bros. Stud, Watertown. Rachel’s 4th dam, Rosie Baron 41643 was bred by John Ingold Est., Monroe. Green Pastures Rayetta, former record holder with 36,160m, a Jester daughter, was also a direct maternal line to Rosie Baron. Also, Jane of Vernon’s son Colonel Harry J.B. was sired by Judd’s Bridge Swiss Betty Baron, He an own son of Rosie Baron by the Ingold bred bull, Swiss Betty Boy. Meadow View Melody “6E”- Bred by Clyde and Bernard Monson, IA. Melody was a maternal sister to Meadow View Destiny. Her sire was Lee’s Hill Masterpiece M. a son of Jane of Vernon 5th. Her maternal granddam was Hensel’s Donna Mae DOB 10/18/36 bred by Wm. Hensel & Son Est., Alma Center. Donna Mae was bred to Duke Dan of Elmhurst that produced the cow Tschierva Ex, the maternal 8th dam of Arnola Peggy Priscilla, National Total Performance Winner for Top Acres Farm, OH.

1966 300 attend State Picnic at Sugar Valley Farm, Brodhead owned by Dr. Nathan Bear. Canton 1 team members, John Grunzel, Janesville; Leonard Johnson, Edgerton; and David Viney, Evansville won the judging contest. Reported on page 92 Sept., Bulletin. 1965 - 1966 13
