LINCOLN COUNTY NEWS Submitted by Tyler Miller

The LCCA officers, directors, and a few Ag development board members took a day trip to visit with some other Cattlemen. Our first stop was in Clinton County at SpringHaven farm where we met and talked with Steve Peddicord. Steve spoke to the group about his Gelbvieh cattle and how he puts a focus on heifer development. The group also viewed his cows and calves as well as his bulls. Before leaving, Steve was generous enough to give the LCCA group a Twin Lakes cow herd record keeping book. A big thanks to Steve for hosting us and to Ag agent Colby Guffey in helping to set this tour up.

After a great lunch at Annie Ruby’s the group viewed a cow/ calf Angus farm in Cumberland county. Owner/operator Sandy McKinney talked to the group about the history of the farm and about different projects she has implemented. The LCCA group got to view one of her feeding pads and was able to hear the positive testimony Sandy gave about implementing this type of feeding system. Sandy also spoke about rotational grazing, fencing, and the farms spring and fall calving dates. LCCA would like to thank Sandy for allowing the group to view her farm. Big thanks to Ag agent Chelsey Anderson for setting up lunch and the afternoon tour. On April 7th, LCCA in conjunction with UK, hosted an educational cost share meeting at the local drive-in. A tasteful cheeseburger meal was prepared for all attendees. Ag Credit of Stanford helped sponsor the meal and Sheri Chapman from Multimin sponsored a grill for a membership drive. The main presentation was played on the big screen. Attendees learned of fencing types/cost and working facility tips for the common beef producer. Thanks to all who helped make this meeting a success!
