J U N I O R C AT T L E M E N H O S T FA L L C L A S S I C Niki Ellis, KBC Director of Education 2020 has become what our children will refer to as their Great Depression stories. Global pandemic, quarantine, drive by birthday parties, zoom classes and cancel culture. This year we were unable to offer our traditional KJCA leadership camp and our back to school bash, meaning our junior members haven’t been together since convention. When meeting with the junior officer team, they were determined to have Fall Classic. There were many new guidelines to hosting a cattle show much less a 3 day event. Once word spread that Fall Classic was a go, the support started rolling in. Thanks to a resilient group of junior members, families, sponsors and volunteers we added a new story to 2020. 2020 was the year of the largest Fall Classic ever. The junior board says “2020 is our record year”.
PRESENTING SPONSOR
KNS INC. P L AT I N U M S P O N S O R S
The 2020 Kentucky Junior Cattlemen’s Association Fall Classic was held October 2-4 at the Blue Grass Stockyards in Lexington Kentucky. You read that correctly, we held Fall Classic at the stockyards and it was the best venue to accommodate our record numbers. This year there were over 102 juniors members who participated and over 158 head of cattle. These members came together to participate in the KJCA Prospect Show, KDA Breeding Show and various beef focused contests over the three day event.

Fall Classic would not have been a success or continue to grow at the rate it has without the help of our sponsors and volunteers. KNS Inc. came back as our presenting sponsor, smashing our expectations in support all over again. Michael and Julie Peterson (KNS Inc.) have been nothing but incredible partners in presenting this premier event. They provide participant shirts, backdrop, banners, photographer, ring help and multiple awards. Blue Grass Stockyards – Lexington stepped in as our facility on short notice when we realized we needed much more room to accommodate the big crowd and social distancing space we needed. They rolled out the red carpet for our event and were there every step of the way. In addition we would like to thank the Shelby County Cattlemen’s association for stepping up with their platinum sponsorship which helped provide a wide assortment of awards for participants and other show day materials. Thanks to Benchmark Graphics and Cowboy Fire for working with us on creating our awards and capturing images of the show. Another big thank you to the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association for providing pull overs to our participants, People’s Bank for providing snacks, Ag Credit for donating awards as well. A full list of sponsors are listed at right.

Lastly; thanks to the KJCA board of directors led by President Kalli Flanders helping coordinate, facilitate and manage Fall Classic. Without their dedication to the program and enthusiasm to see it grow we couldn’t pull it off. Kentucky’s cattle industry is in great hand with our future leaders.
