YOUR SUPPORT AT WORK It’s Been Almost Two Years “We appreciate that we had the ability to use Zoom! We are really happy to be back in the room!”

It’s been almost two years, to the date, since we had a young adult retreat in person. Everyone was excited about being together once again! We were also thrilled to have young adults from all over the United States. Students from the Praying Pelicans Ministry were able to join us. It was amazing that being in person drew people back together. We had 75 people including our staff and little ones at the retreat! Our young adults love the little ones, so we encourage our families to come. There was joy in having a full house.

Our theme for this winter retreat was “Life on the Runway!” Our young adults continually express that they feel like they have all the passion and longing to be successful but also feel like they have trouble knowing how to move into the new chapter of adulthood. We want to have a practical approach to helping our young adults “take flight.”

We also had our “Walking Wisdom” elders available to speak from experiences. Joining us this retreat were Jean Mute from Bethel, Vince Eben, TJ Smith, and Curtis and Kristi Ivanoff from Anchorage. We are so thankful for all they bring. We talked about the importance of “flight-planning” in our lives with Dolena Fox. She is an Alumna of ACC and CYAK, who spoke via video about the importance of flight planning as she is now a flight instructor. She also shared about working towards her goal of becoming a pilot.

There was also a time for activities such as the Young Adult Retreat Olympics. This event is the highlight of the retreat as we compete in different stations that have great cultural significance. They were much like the Native Youth Olympics games. Other activities such as snowmachine rides, the gun range, and ice fishing were enjoyed by many as well. I believe everyone had a blast!

I want to thank all of our speakers, leaders, and CYAK Staff who made this event happen. Without them, we would not have been able to have such a great event. We look forward to our next event in September. Save the Dates We heard from different worship for September 23-25, 2022! We hope leaders. Jonathan Hanson, Tom Mute, to reach out to more Young Adults and and I took on the duties of leading the encourage them with the hope of Jesus retreat attendees into the throne room of our father to honor him. It was such a Christ! blessing to praise Him all together!

We were encouraged to host Lance Kramer, Pastor of Kotzebue Changepoint Church. He was able to speak life into our young adults through humor and the understanding of issues young people experience. Lance shared his life experiences and pain, which will hopefully inspire participants to move forward in their own life.
