Grouse Fire Near Pine
On Sunday evening, a fire started about 6 miles northeast of Pine, Idaho, in the area of National Forest System (NFS) roads 166 and 166e. Campers were evacuated from the area. As of Tuesday morning, this fire is 0% contained due to high winds on Labor Day. Fire officials have closed access to the all of NFS 166 roads and are assessing the need for a wider area closure. Gusty afternoon winds, spotting and running fire in grass and shrub, has created a fast moving fire. This presents significant safety concerns for fire personnel, slowing the ability to contain the fire. Currently, the Grouse Fire is estemated at 200 acres. The cause is under investigation.
