News Stop the Presses
For the last 15 years we have been printing this newspaper ourselves with a small digital press. While this has not been without challenges, it has allowed us to save a considerable amount of time and money. Prior to our purchasing The Snowshoe from the Camas County School District in 1995, the newspaper was printed at 303 Printing in Gooding. 303 closed their doors about that same time and for our first six years of owning this publication, we drove to Burley to have the newspaper printed The folks at the Burley Reminder were friendly and helpful in making sure we published every week. However, the trip to Burley (from Fairfield) is 208 miles (round trip) and right at the beginning of the 21 century gas prices were very high. The cost of that weekly trip was making it hard to make ends meet. Then, in 2001, we purchased our current equipment from Peak Media and started printing in Fairfield. It saved a great deal of time and gave us more flexibility in covering news. It also provide a job for my son Lemuel who has been my pressman for the
last four years. Last week we sent Lemuel off to Boise State University, and oddly enough, our digital press decided it could not live without him. I have been able fix most of its breakdowns, but this time may be the last straw. Parts are on their way from various location across America, but they won’t be here until next week. So for now, this sheet of paper will have to suffice. If we are unable to publish next week, you now understand why.
