The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is conducting a study to evaluate potential transportation improvements to address congestion and mobility at existing Snake River cross ings that connect Twin Falls and Jerome counties.

“With tremendous growth in communities on both sides of the canyon, and the unique chal lenges created by the canyon, effective infrastructure is key to mobility and economic opportunity in the region,” ITD project manager Nathan Jerke said. “The project team is working closely with local jurisdictions and key stakeholders to analyze data with a goal to find a solution that works for the entire region.”

The truck had been sitting for years and I didn't even know if it would run. $500 plus in batteries was going to help me find out. I did a lot of inspections and installed the batteries. My thought was to just crank the engine a little to pump up some oil and let it set. When I hit the key, it was instantly run ning - I sure wasn't expecting that! With the truck running I decided to check out the drive train and brakes. The Mack has two transmissions - a 5 speed and a 4 speed. Luckily, I knew how to shift this transmission set up. One of the shifters was stuck in between gears... a little rusted. I was okay with this because I knew how to get it Myunstuck.testrun found me beating wasps out the window by the handful. Once parked I discov ered an orange sized nest behind my head near the driver's door. Enough testing for one day. In a few days I was back to drive the truck to Emmett. The trip was going really slow. Going down to State Highway 95 seemed to be a calling for about 75 road rage followers behind me. I took a dirt road out of Council to Cam bridge, Idaho. People way ahead of me pulled over to let me pass. Two things: first, I looked like a truck out of the Mad Max movie, and secondly, I was driving a water truck. Rural people know everyone joins in to help suppress fires. I may have been going to a fire (good consideration to give these vehicles room). Once in Cambridge I took Highway 95 to Midvale, Idaho. I led a mile long parade with my slow going. When entering Midvale I hit the dirt road again for a covered wagon trek to Emmett. The road was very rough and slow, but if something mechanical went wrong I wouldn't have a city of vehicles parked behind me. My two hour drive down Highway 95 turned out to be an all day event. Why would I pack a lunch for a hundred mile trip? I guess I figured I would be going 60mph instead of 20mph. The song by Dave Dudley in 1963, "Six Days on the Road" sure entered my mind. A line in the song said, "Six days on the road and I'll make it home tonight." If I thought I was going camping, I could have brought some lawn chairs and a cooler. So, if you see me on the road, just remem ber... I have a short way to go and long time to get there. This is my “Cup of Tee” with 3000 gallons of water to brew.

© A while back I had pur chased a 1965 Mack water truck in Council, Idaho. Three weeks ago, I decided I needed to get it to Emmett, Idaho. We were about ready to combine grain and a little extra protection from fires (ac cidental or lightning caused) couldn't hurt.

Judy Ona Urrutia, age 76, went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, August 14, 2022. She was born in Gooding, Idaho on September 28, 1945, the daughter of Richard and Ona Gonsales. She graduated high school in Gooding and quickly mar ried Larry Urrutia, on June 13, 1964. Judy and Larry had three wonderful children and lived in Pocatello, Idaho and Salt Lake City, Utah before returning home to help her newly widowed mother. Larry and she were able to build a beautiful home across the road from her childhood home, but later parted ways. With hope in her heart, she found a friend in Don Daubner and their friendship and love healed their wounded hearts. They wed on November 27, 1978 and she added two more treasured children to her family. They lived blissfully together for 22 years, and she dutifully took care of Don as he unsuccessfully battled cancer and passed away in 2000. After spending several years focusing on her family and building friendships, she met and married Bob Davis. Sadly, after only 2 great years, Bob suddenly passed away in 2006. By August of 2010 she decided to reclaim her personal time and retire from her long career in public service. She proudly served as the Gooding Planning and Zoning Administrator for nearly 20 years. Like a string tugging at her heart, she found her way back to her high school sweetheart, Larry, and welcomed his two beautiful daughters into her family. They remarried on June 13, 2011 and built their second dream home. They shared countless adventures and a life full of love that they thought could only exist in their dreams. Family meant everything to Judy. Spending time with any of them made for a perfect day in her eyes. She wouldn’t have traded anything for the moments she had with her loved ones, whether they were good or bad. She was fiercely strong and went through so many trials in her life. She would often wonder to herself if she was as strong as her beloved mother and although they were different in ways, they both had a strength within them that burned like a wildfire.
