Snake River Crossing Study Underway

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is conducting a study to evaluate potential transportation improvements to address congestion and mobility at existing Snake River crossings that connect Twin Falls and Jerome counties. The study will look at a range of alternatives such as improvements to the existing road network, an additional crossing over the Snake River, new roadway connections, and potential traffic routing. The study will be ongoing through early 2023. “With tremendous growth in communities on both sides of the canyon, and the unique challenges created by the canyon, effective infrastructure is key to mobility and economic opportunity in the region,” ITD project manager Nathan Jerke said. “The project team is working closely with local jurisdictions and key stakeholders to analyze data with a goal to find a solution that works for the entire region.” Over the coming months, ITD will work with an executive team made up of local elected officials, a technical committee comprised of roadway and engineering staff, and key stakeholders. These groups will work toward the goal of developing alternatives and proposed actions to reduce congestion and address future transportation needs. To learn more about the study and to find out about upcoming opportunities for public input, sign up for email updates by visiting itdprojects.org/snakerivercrossing.

The Shoshone Education Foundation Wants You!

Vol 46 Num 34

Want to be part of a great organization? Then the Shoshone Education Foundation (SEF) is the group for you! What is the Shoshone Education Foundation, you ask? It’s a group of citizens from the community that work collectively to raise money for the foundation. The SEF than uses those dollars to provide scholarships for our graduating seniors, to fund events that enrich and expand students’ academic experience, and provide support to classrooms for special projects. The Shoshone Education Foundation is very excited to announce their contributions to Shoshone students and programs for 2022. The foundation awarded over $21,000 in college scholarships, $5,626.00 in profit share to SHS clubs and organizations, and $1000 to field trips and special events. In 1995 the Shoshone Education Foundation was formed. Several individuals with Foundation experience were contacted for ideas. Local residents were approached about being the first directors. The first board consisted of Victor J. Bozzuto, Virginia Churchman, Max Excell, Ken Haught, Donna Hibbard, Gale M. Roberts, Denise Stark, Chris Uhrig, and Terry Zech. Virginia Churchman was elected Chairperson, Ken Haught, vice Chairman, Victor Bozzuto, treasurer and Chris Uhrig secretary. The goals of the Foundation were and are: • To provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Shoshone High School for the pursuit of higher education, • To provide arts events for students to enrich and expand their academic experience, and • To provide support to classrooms, while assisting teachers with special projects. The Foundation supports all students, including those pursuing 2 and 4 year degree, and those pursuing Vocational Technical degrees. We would love for you to join us in our efforts to continue the good work that was started by those before us! Information is available by emailing Chairman Kelly Chapman @ kelly.chapman@shoshonesd.org or Treasurer Lorie Race @ race605@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
