New Pharmacy in Wendell

Hub City Drug is now open in Wendell, next to Wendell Physical Therapy and across the street from Associates in Family Practice. For residence of Wendell, the face behind the counter is a familiar one - Devon Hope. As the son of Doyle and Robyn Hope, he grew up loving the value of hard work by growing up on the farm and participating in football, basketball, and golf during junior high and high school in Wendell. Helping people has always been something that he’s been passionate about, so he knew the medical field would give him that opportunity. Devon began working for Dick’s Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician in 2008 and worked there while going to pharmacy school. In 2014, he graduated from Idaho State University with a Doctor of Pharmacy and became a licensed pharmacist in the summer of 2014. When Dick’s Pharmacy group decided to open a new pharmacy in Wendell, Devon was excited for the opportunity to be back in his hometown of Wendell. Along with providing a full service pharmacy, Hub City Drug also provides clinical pharmacy services such as flu shots, shingles vaccines, etc. This Friday, August 23rd, you are invited to Hub City Drug (447 North Idaho Street) for a grand opening celebration. They will have free tacos from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Safety Tips for Kids, Parents & Drivers as School Resumes

School has started for most school districts around the area. That means more kids on the roads heading to class by foot, bicycle, school bus, or even driving themselves. That means it’s time to be a little more engaged in driving. Here are some tips to help us keep our kids safe: Be Engaged Kids can be unpredictable. That’s why it’s important to drive in the moment and free from distraction. Be an engaged driver and aware of what is happening on the road around you. Plan Ahead Give yourself plenty time to safely arrive at your destination. Crosswalks, school buses, and parents dropping their kids off can all cause delays to your commute. DON’T PASS SCHOOL BUSES When you see a school bus with the red lights flashing and the stop arm extended, stop your vehicle. Children may dart out if they’re running late.

Pronghorn Poaching Near Stanley

By Mike Demick, Staff Biologist

An illegally killed pronghorn buck was discovered recently near Stanley, and Idaho Department of Fish and Game is asking the public for information to bring the poacher to justice. While working in the Stanley area on Wednesday, August 14, Fish and Game conservation officers Johnathan Beer and Malcolm Clemenhagen found the carcass of a young pronghorn buck approximately 130 yards east of Highway 75 near the junction with Pettit Lake Road. Based on the location, Beer believes the pronghorn buck was likely shot from the highway. The entire carcass was left to rot. The archery season for pronghorn opened in the area the next day. Evidence was collected at the scene, but Beer hopes to learn more about the case from any eyewitness or others who have knowledge of the incident. “Someone in addition to the poacher knows about this and we’d like to visit with them,” Beer said. Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) is offering a reward for information and callers can remain anonymous. Call the CAP hotline at 1-800-632-5999 twenty four hours a day. In addition to the CAP hotline, persons with information regarding this case may also contact the Fish and Game in Salmon at 208-756-2271. -- -- -- -- --

Mule Deer Killed with Pellet Gun

On August 1st, Idaho Fish and Game received a call about an injured deer in a south Pocatello neighborhood. The deer was reported to be lying in a backyard of a residence, motionless with labored breathing. The deer died before Fish and Game arrived at the scene. After an examination of the carcass, Fish and Game determined the cause of death to be the result of a pellet piercing both lungs. The projectile removed from the lung tissue was the type fired from a pellet gun. The deer had otherwise been in good physical condition before its death. While Fish & Game is investigating this incident (taking a big game animal during closed season and taking a big game animal with an unlawful weapon), it is a good idea to remind our children and ourselves that pellet guns are dangerous.
