NEWS Gooding County Fair & Rodeo

This Saturday, August 14th, the Gooding County Fairgrounds will host the Gooding Jr. Rodeo Jackpot. Arena events will begin at 9:00 a.m. with four divisions: PeeWee (6 and under), Youth (7-10), Junior High (11-14), and High School (15-18). Young cowboys and cowgirls will compete in sheep riding, goat tying, barrel racing, roping, steer wrestling, and more. At 1:00 p.m. there will be events on the grass with rubber head roping, goat tail untying, and the Stick Horse Barrel Racing. All Jr. Rodeo events are open to the public with free admission. On Monday, August 16th, Gather your treasures, photographs, painting, antiques, and enter them in the Open Class Exhibits between 9 a.m to 7 p.m. On Tuesday, August 17, bring in your flowers and garden produce from 4 to 8 p.m. If you have questions, contact Karen Perry or Cheryl Simmons. 4-H and FAA shows will be taking place all week long, so be careful and courteous when animals are being moved to the show rings. Otherwise, be sure to take a look at all the hard work our young people have put into their animal projects. The 4-H/FFA Master Showmanship Contest will be held Friday (20th) at 9 a.m. and the Market Animal Sale will be Saturday at 10 a.m. The Main Street Parade will be Wednesday (August 18th) at 5:30 p.m. Line-up begins at 4 p.m. near the CSI Round Building. There is no charge to be in the parade. After the parade, head on over the fairgrounds for Dollar Night at the Carnival and... the first night of PRCA Rodeo starting at 8:00 p.m. Each night of the rodeo will be followed by live music at Chute 7. Be sure to get your tickets while they last (Valley Wide Stores, the Fair office, or online at goodingprorodeo.com). For all you Urban Cowboys and Cowgirls, be sure to join the Championships of the Mechanical Bull Riders for cash and prizes - 18 years and over - men and women’s head to head 30 second endurance riding event. “Pioneers! O Pioneers!”

Everybody! Yes, Everybody is invited to join the 2021 Camas Pioneer Picnic on Sunday, August 15th, at the Fairfield City Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be music, good company, picnic eats you bring yourself, and more music! There will be a report on the Fancy New Johnson Hill Sign as well. First held in 1913 by the Pioneer Picnic Association, this will be the 107th Edition of the annual gathering of pioneers, new and old, large and small, from near and from far! This year is BYOP (bring you own picnic). So, bring some eats in a bucket, bag, or hubcap! And... consider bringing a chair, consider bringing a friend... All are welcome. “O you daughters of the West! O you young and elder daughters! O you mothers and you wives! Never must you be divided, in our ranks you move united, Pioneers! Soldier Mountain 5K Trail Run

Registration is still open for Soldier Mountain's first annual Avalanche Series of 5K downhill trail running and walking races. The third and final race is this Saturday, August 14th. The course is approximately three miles long and starts at the top of the High Trail Express (Lift 1) and then winds down the hill on the shady, north side. The finish line is just in front of the lodge, allowing spectators great views. Prizes will be awarded to the top-three finishers in each division, which includes males 8-17, females 8-17, males 18-30, females 18-30, males 31 and older, and females 31 and older. Soldier Mountain has duplicate categories for those who wish to walk instead of run. Participants can register online at: eventbrite.com/e/5kavalanche-series-tickets-163741010771 or on race day at the mountain at 10 a.m. and costs $15. Soldier Mountain will provide racers with bibs, safety pins to affix them, a wristband for riding the chairlift, and two raffle tickets for extra swag. Participants and spectators may purchase additional raffle tickets for $1 each. Soldier Mountain will host an awards ceremony after the race on the patio at 1:15 p.m. Race and raffle winners will be announced at this time.
