Gooding County Fair & Rodeo
This Friday, August 10th, the Gooding County Fair & Rodeo will get started with Junior Rodeo. At 4:00 p.m. the fun will begin on the grass with rubber head roping and stick horse barrel racing. At 5:30 the events move into the arena with breakaway roping, pole bending, flag race, sheep riding, and more. Four division of young cowboys and cowgirls will compete for rodeo glory, so come cheer them on. This event is open to the public, but please... no dogs or alcohol! On Monday, August 13th, the display barns will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for open class entries. Open class flowers need to check-in on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and produce can be brought in on Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m. The Main Street Parade has a new time this year - Wednesday, August 15th, at 5:30 p.m. Line-up for the parade begins at 4 p.m. near the College of Southern Idaho Round Building (14th and Main). There is no charge to be in the parade. For more information, contact Pete Etchart at Valley Country Store - 208-9345664. Family night at the carnival will commence right after the parade with $1 rides, while the kids play, the arena will host PRCA Xtreme Bull Riding at 8:00 p.m. 4-H/FAA Livestock Shows will be held throughout the week along with open class (all ages) shows. The carnival opens at 5 p.m. each evening and PRCA Rodeo events begin at 8 p.m.

Free Tobacco Cessation Classes at SCPHD
It is never too late to quit! South Central Public Health District (SCPHD) is partnering with the Wellness Tree Community Clinic, Shoshone Family Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Wood River to offer a new set of Freedom From Smoking® classes to help residents become tobacco-free. Tobacco causes a majority of the preventable death and disease in the United States. According to the CDC, every year more than 440,000 people die from smoking or exposure
to secondhand smoke. Meanwhile, around 8.6 million people are living with serious illness as a result of smoking and/or use of smokeless tobacco. “Our classes are designed to help people overcome their tobacco addiction and take control of their health,” said Cody Orchard, Health Education Specialist. “These classes are just a start, if you want to quit and can’t make it to a class call (208) 737-5968 and we will work around your schedule.” The Freedom From Smoking® program was developed... continued on page 7...

Fire Restrictions
High fire risk conditions have caused a Stage 1 Fire Restriction to be imposed throughout Idaho. Until further notice, the following restrictions apply to all public lands, and all private forest and range lands. Stage I Fire Restrictions 1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire except within a designated recreation site, within a fire structure provided by the administrative agency, or on their own land and only within an owner-provided fire structure (see definition below) 2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. Exemptions 1. Persons with a written permit that specifically authorizes the otherwise prohibited act. 2. Persons using fire fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels. 3. Persons conducting activities in those designated areas where the activity is specifically authorized by written posted notice. 4. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. 5. All land within a city boundary is exempted 6. Other exemptions unique to each agency Fire restrictions will remain in place until fire conditions change and the public will be notified at that time. OWNER PROVIDED STRUCTURE: A permanent metal and concrete improvement specifically designed for the purpose of containing a campfire or cooking fire, provided by the agency or landowner, with a clearance of ten feet on all sides that is free of any flammable vegetation. This does not include a metal fire pan.
