Pistols & Petticoats
The Camas County Fair events started this last weekend with 4H Horse Show and Gymkhana at the rodeo arena. Last night, the Public Speaking Contest took place at the LDS Church. Be sure to check out the 4H displays at the American Legion Hall to see how our young 4Hers did. Next Tuesday, July 30th at 10 a.m., is the deadline to enter the Business Decoration contest. Fancy up your window, your lobby, or one of the poles on Soldier Road to show off your business. Judges will chose the ones that best represent the fair theme. Wednesday, July 31st, is the last day to get your Pre-sale wristbands for the Carnival. All Day passes are $15 for kids 5 & under and $20 for those 6 & over. If you need a pass for the whole weekend, cost is $40 for 5 & under and $50 for 6 & over. Contact your favorite Fair Board Member and get yours today! Carnival will be here through Sunday, August 4th. The Legion Hall will be open from 10 to 4 on July 31st and from 8 to 10 on August 1st to set up 4H and commercial booths. This is also the time to bring in your open class items: quilts, needlepoint, clothing, woodwork, pottery, painting, sculpture, or whatever you have made and want to show off. Items do not have to be judged. Thursday, August 1st, is Free Carnival night and the Bike Parade. Friday is the Dog Show, the Archery Contest, and the Community Potluck Picnic with Music by the Rocky Mountain Riders. The evening will also feature a Cow Chip contest and a Family Movie Night Under the Stars.
Commissioners to Visit Potential Site for New EMS Building
For over a year, the Gooding County Commissioners have been looking for a location to build a new EMS building. After considering purchase costs and the location advantages of several pieces of land, they are hopeful they have found what they are looking for. On August 1st at 10 a.m. the Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 1938 State Highway 46 (just south of North Canyon Medical Center). The purpose of this meeting is to conduct a site visit. The public is welcome to attend this meeting, however, an executive session may be needed to discuss information not open to public discloser. -- -- - Daytime meetings are difficult for many of us to attend. Because of that, the Gooding County Commissioners have been holding an evening meeting once a month at their last meeting of the month. Their next evening meeting will be on July 29th at 6:00 p.m. As with all their meetings, the public is welcome to attend. If you have a specific issue you wish to address, contact the clerk’s office to be put on the agenda.
