Construction of Camas Bike Path Begins
For several years, there has been a need to provide a safe place for bicyclists and pedestrians to travel north from Fairfield. Soldier Road is used by kids and adults for recreation and commuting to and from school. Soldier Road also accesses a multitude of trails in the national forest. But, for bicyclists and those on foot, sharing the roadway with large campers and other vehicles can be a bit uncomfortable. In February, thanks to grants from the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Camas County Board of Commissioners approved the construction of a bike path along Soldier Road from Fairfield to the townsite of Soldier (approximately 1.5 miles). Construction of the pathway began this week and motorists should be prepared for delays, or find an alternate route to their destination. The work will include excavation, asphalt, approach work, signage and striping.
