Know Before You Go If you plan to visit national forest areas during the Independence Day holiday (July 4th) weekend, Sawtooth National Forest Supervisor Becky Nourse suggests, “Know before you go.” What’s important to know? Read on! Fireworks are Prohibited on all national forests year-round. Even if it’s “green,” please practice good sense by using caution with fire and smoking at all times, in all places. Drown, stir and check your campfire for heat with your bare hand. ALL fires must be DEAD OUT before leaving the site. Responsible Motorized Use. Please stay on designated routes and obtain the appropriate travel maps before you go. On the Sawtooth National Forest visitors should carry the FREE Motorized Vehicle Use Maps, available at Forest Service Offices throughout South Central Idaho. No mud bogging is allowed anywhere on National Forest System lands. Idaho traffic laws apply to all motor vehicles including off-highway vehicles (OHVs) and motorcycles of all types. Be Careful with Fire. While the Forest looks green, fire danger is an important concern. Fires can start very quickly and burn in vegetation that may seem green but is drying out at an alarming rate. There are no fire restrictions at this time. Please when leaving your campsite for the day or when leaving for home, “make sure your campfire is cold to the touch”. Recreation Information. Due to late snowpack, construction or flood damage, some recreation sites may not be open during the 4th of July holiday weekcontinued on page 3.....

Western Heritage Days & Ranch Rodeo The Western Heritage and Ranch Rodeo in Gooding rides into action this weekend along with a number of other events to entertain and enjoy. UPDATE: Due to the last minute addition of another event, the rodeo will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The start time for the Gooding High School Team Roping event on Thursday, June 27th, will remain at 6 p.m. Be sure to check out the newest addition to this yearly event by watching the Fiddlers of Idaho State Championships. Contestants, young and old, will be playing all day (starting at 10 a.m.), and after the contest (until the rodeo starts) stick around for the train song contest. There may even be a little flat-picken guitar and banjo music to boot. After the Gooding County Centennial Parade (which starts at ten) be sure to support the first 4-H competition of the Draft Horse Club. Driving draft horses is a dying art, but these young 4-H’ers have been training all year. Now it’s time to show you and the judges what they have learned. The Draft Horse Show starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning, the Stock Dog Trials will begin at 8 a.m. Over a dozen contestants are ready to be put to the test, and what these dogs can do will amaze you. This event will be held in the rodeo arena. Besides being great fun, the Western Heritage and Ranch Rodeo supports our 4-H youth by helping maintain the facilities at the fairgrounds. Come enjoy the weekend and be a proud supporter of 4-H and Gooding County’s 100th Birthday.
