Gooding Commissioners To Hold Public Hearings

Summerfest at Soldier Mountain June 29th Starting at Noon

Next Monday, June 24, 2013, beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Gooding County Commissioners will be hold several public hearings dealing with land use within Gooding County. First on the list is the Amended Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map. Most of the proposed changes to the zoning ordinance are to clairify the language. For example: in Chapter 5, designations on the land use schedule of regulations have been changed. “Permitted (P)” use has been changed to “Allowed (A)” use to avoid confusion with uses that require a permit. One specific change in this section is an increase in the set back from natural waterways. The old requirement was 35 feet and the new requirement will be 50 feet. Another specific change is the Animal Equivalency table. In the old ordinance this was addressed under definitions. In the new ordinance the table has been moved to Appendix A. Changes in the new table include making animal units of dairy cattle based on weight rather than age. Another change is with non-specified animals where the old animal unit was 350 pounds and the new animal unit will be 1000 pounds. (Anything over 70 animal equivalency units is considered a CAFO and must meet those regulations.) The commissioners will also consider ordinances affecting the Wendell Area of City Impact. Under the new ordinances, the county specifically retains jurisdiction over land within the impact area, but the

Soldier Mountain is hosting a concert on the 29th of June to help promote their educational programs. Last fall a Magic Carpet was installed to make it easier for beginners to take their first steps towards a lifetime sport. This was a huge success and the ski area accommodated over 1300 students in their first season as a nonprofit, community ski hill. Now, they are ready to do more. As a fundraiser for future projects to improve educational programs, you invited come and enjoy a full day of music and family friendly entertainment on June 29th. Starting at noon music performers will include Valerie Metzger (original alternative folk music), Lower Broadford Boys (a three piece with harmonica, guitar and fiddle Americana music), Spike Coggins (a solo show of Idaho Mountain Blues), Patty Wagon Band (fast fiddling Celtic music), Old Death Whisperer (a cocktail of dirty western roots music and country tinged parlor tunes), and Muzzie Braun & Friends. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Advance tickets (until June 22) are $20. Tickets at the door will be $25. Kids under 12 FREE!
