Wendell: 208-536-6795 or wendellrec.org Gooding: 209-934-5941 The Lincoln County Recreation District announced in mid May that the Shoshone Pool will not open this summer. Being the smallest public pool in the area, they did not feel they could adequately meet all the requirements needed to comply with the current government regulations and still cover their expenses. A letter from the district is posted on their Facebook page.
How Do You Use Your City Parks?
There are three parks in the City of Gooding: The Lions Park on Main Street across from North Valley Academy, West Park near the Gooding Senior Center (California & 9th), and East Park which is the home of the outdoor Gooding Public Swimming Pool (Illinois between 3rd & 4th). Each of these parks have unique opportunities for outdoor recreation - volleyball, basketball, playground equipment, picnic tables, and swimming - but, is there something missing? The City of Gooding is working with South Central Public Health District to better understand how you use the park system, and what improvements, amenities, or access are needed. You can help answer these questions by completing a survey: https://forms.gle/dtUxXbqvKeSHcFhx5 As a reminder, these city parks can be reserved for large events such as reunions and parties. Please call first to reserve a park by calling City Hall at 208-934-5669.

Camas County Rodeo Cancelled
The Camas Rodeo Committee (part of the Camas Chamber of Commerce) has decided to cancel this year’s Rodeo at the C Me Later Arena located on the west side of Fairfield. While health concerns due to Covid-19 were a factor in this decision, several large sponsors indicated they would not be able to help offset the costs involved in this event. Because these funds amounted to about a quarter of the rodeo’s budget, the committee felt it was too much of a financial risk to hold the rodeo this year. There is a possibility of an independent rodeo taking place this summer in Camas County, but it will not be sponsored or supported by the Camas Chamber. Across the West, most of the PRCA rodeos have been cancelled, including the Cheyenne Frontier Days (one of the world’s largest outdoor rodeos) for the first time in 124 years. A number of July rodeos are still planning to take place, but this won’t produce enough competitions or points to hold a final event. But... there is hope for all you rodeo fans! In our area, the Lincoln County and Gooding County rodeos are still planning to take place in conjunction with their county fairs. So, keep your hat and spurs on, and your horses ready to ride.
