News 2018 State Track & Field
On Friday and Saturday - May 18 & 19 - nearly 3 dozen athletes from our area were at Middleton High School for the 2018 State Track & Field Championships. While the Gooding team was reduced in number due to injuries, they were the only area team to bring back gold from this year’s competition. The Gooding Girls Track team also received the 2018 Academic Award for their 3.860 GPA. This is the third academic award for Gooding this school year - the Volleyball team received this award last fall (3.930) and Girls Cross Country this winter (3.890). The Idaho High School Activities Association gives this award to varsity teams that achieve the highest cumulative grade point average. (Photo: Nicole Stampke, Sierra Lopes, Keely Wolf & Ellie Stockham) Gooding Freshman, Elliotte Stockham, took first in the Pole Vault with a vault of 10’6”. In April she set the Gooding High School pole vault record with a 10 foot vault. Ellie also took 4th in the Triple Jump. In the running events, Gooding Junior Keely Wolf took gold in both the 3200m (11:47.18) and the 1600m (5:26.48) runs. Camas County Freshman, Samantha McFadyen, took silver (2nd) in the High jump with a height of 5 feet. Sam also competed in the 400m (5th) and 200m (7th) runs. Allysen Huyser (Shoshone Senior) threw the discus 114-02 feet to give her a silver finish. Mike Needham (Gooding) and Megan Tews (Camas) both finished 4th in the Discus Throw. Erica Kent from Richfield finished 4th in the 3200m and 5th in the 1600m.
Memoral Day Weekend at West Magic
This Saturday, May 26th, the West Magic Lake Recreation Club invites you to enjoy their annual ATV Fun Run at West Magic Lake. Riders should meet at the Clubhouse and be prepared to start their engines at 12 noon.
On Sunday, May 27th, There will be a Boat Parade or ATV Parade from 12 to 1 p.m. (weather permitting). Memorial Service will be held a 2 p.m. followed by a BBQ at 3 p.m.

May 15th Primary Election
With no contested local races in Camas County, the turn out was less than normal with 36% of registered voters casting ballots. The last primary brought out 41% and the last general 82% of registered voters. Camas Republicans were mostly in favor for Brad Little for Governor (45%). For Lt. Governor, they went for Steve Yates (29%) over Janice McGeachin (28.4%). Camas Democrats vote overwhelmingly in favor of Paulette Jordan for Governor (89%) and Kristin Collum for Lt. Governor (94%), though there were only 17 of them. In Lincoln County, turn out of register voters was just under 30% with the highest number of ballots cast in the Governor’s race (Rep: 42% Little & 32% Ahlquist -- Dem: 58% Jordan). In the Lt. Governor race, Democrat Collum took 92%. Republican Yates took 39% followed by McGeachin at 24.0%. For L.C. District 1 Commissioner, Richard Ellis won the Republican nomination with 430 votes over Don Hudson at 231 votes. Ellis will face Democrat Julia Ozarango-Ingram this fall. For L.C. District 3 Commissioner, Roy Hubert held his seat with 331 votes over Larry Kerner (290) and Roger Fields (78). Mike Piper won the coroner race with 169 votes over Mark Whitesell with 99 votes (both of these candidates ran as writeins). In Richfield, Jose Loughmiller won Fire District #1 with 115 votes over Mark Whitesell (68). In Gooding County, 43% of registered voter turned out to cast ballots (the last primary brought out 30%). Gooding Democrats split over Balukoff (51%) and Jordan (47%) for Governor, while Republicans went for Little (46%) over Ahlquist (26%) and Labrador (22%). For Lt. Governor, Democrats voted 82% for Collum and Republicans chose Yates (36%) over McGeachin (28%). The request to dissolve the Hospital taxing district passed with 87% of voters in favor. The request to form a new Gooding Library taxing District passed as well with 74% approval. Voters in both Wendell (64%) and Hagerman (68%) approved levy requests from their school districts. In Gooding County races, Susan Bolton won Commissioner #1 with 71% over Dennis Rogers (29%). Ron Buhler received 58% of the votes for Commissioner #3 over John Elliot (42%). Denise Gill retained her party’s nomination for County Clerk with 55% to Crystal Spackman’s 45%. Gill will face Democrat Gillian Minter this fall. Ronnie Geer won the coroner race with 53% of the votes over Jase Stockham with 47%.
