State Track & Field Tournament

The Gooding Senators came away from this year’s State Track & Field tournament with four gold medals, two which went to Brianna Chance for the 100m and 200m Dash. Rachel Youren, also from Gooding, took gold in the 800m run along with 2nd place finishes in the 1600m and 400m. Gooding’s Girl 800m Medley Team (Brittney Russell, Cynthia Catalan, Brianna Chance, and Bailey Price) took gold with a

time of 1:52.50, beating the 2nd place team, Fruitland, by nearly 3 seconds. Wendell High School ended up with three gold medals. Johnny Lancaster finished first in the 200m and 100m Dash, while Wendell’s 4x200m Relay boys team (Jorge Lopez, Johnny Lancaster, Chas Nebecker & Alex Swainston) took first place with a time of 1:31.35. Weekend in the Forest

Clifford took first in the 100m Dash and the boys 4x100m Relay team (Clint Clifford, Austin Funkhouser, Kade Kress & Marcus Emerson) finished first with a time of 44.97. This gave Hagerman two gold medals for this year’s state tournament. Other notable competetors at the State Track & Field Tournament included Camas County’s Issac Simon who took 2nd in the Boys High Jump, and Dietrich’s Jacob Dalton who took 2nd in the 3200m and 1600m Run. more results on page 8...

The Sawtooth National Forest would like to encourage everyone to get out this Memorial Day weekend and enjoy your National Forest. People planning on recreating on the Sawtooth National Forest over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend will find a number of facilities open and operating, however due to the lingering snowpack at the higher elevations a number of roads and trails will be closed. We would like to remind visitors to avoid driving or riding on muddy roads and trails to avoid damaging the running surface. Please check with your local Forest Service office for current road and trail conditions. Another important reminder for visitors this weekend is to be sure to put your campfire out when leaving your campsite for the day or for the weekend. There are many places on the forest at the lower elevations that are very dry, so ensure that your campfire is dead out before leaving the site.
