News A School Year to Remember

This will be a memorable years for Idaho students, especially our graduating High School Seniors. Because of Covid-19 concerns, the normal events associated with graduation - ceremonies, parties, road trips, etc. - have been drastically altered. Many schools have simply postponed such events in hopes that sometime this summer things will open up enough to properly send our

young men and women off into the big world. With no guarantee of what the future holds, some of our smaller schools have found creative ways to make sure our graduating seniors have something special to remember. On Saturday, May 9th, Soldier Road in downtown Fairfield was filled up to full capacity as the community honored the Class of 2020. In full blue & white robes and mortarboard caps, the nine graduating Seniors marched the length of town to the sound of car horns and shouts from friends and family. Followed by a long line of vehicles with signs and balloons, the “Graduation Matters” parade rivaled the best fair parades. Camas County School will hold an official graduation ceremony on June 19th, but for now, this event will be closed to the public (a live stream may be happening). This year’s Camas County graduates include five girls and four boys: Aisha Bree Clarke, Ashli Brooke Larsen, Greydon Archer Niehay, Dawsen Todd Rasmussen, Shelby Lynn Sanders, Trey Earl Smith, Colby Christopher Thompson, Ashlynn Brett Whittle, and Priscilla Rose Williamson.

Deadline to Request Absentee Ballot May 19th at 8:00 p.m.

If you haven’t already made your request, you should have received a form in the mail to do so. Return the form as soon as possible to make things easier for our county clerks, and to prevent possible delays.

South Fork Boise River Road Realignment Project Moving Forward

On April 28, 2020, Shawn Robnett, acting Fairfield District Ranger signed the final decision for the Forest Road 227 Realignment (Bowns Washout) Project. Contractor, Raymond Robinson, was awarded the contract to realign the road per the decision and is scheduled to begin work before the end of May, 2020. They will start on the “lower” re-route section which is located on the west (Featherville) side of the washout. They expect to move to the Bowns Campground (Big Smoky) side by the end of June. Throughout the construction period, the area between Bowns Campground and the confluence of the South Fork Boise River/Big Smoky Creek will be closed for public safety. Bicycle travel along the Forest Road 227 has become popular in recent years, and in order to prevent any accidents, the route through the construction sites will be closed to even this type of nonmotorized travel. Bicyclists and motorcyclists will need to plan ahead to go around the construction areas, i.e. through Fairfield. In July, when the contractors are working on the “upper” reroute in the vicinity of Bowns Campground, they will also be widening a section of road over Fleck Summit (Forest Road 012) and using the material excavated from the widening and placing it on the realigned section of Forest Road 227. When the widening of the road over Fleck Summit begins, no traffic will be allowed over the summit on Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Friday between 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During this same period, delays may also occur on Forest Road 227 between Five Points and Worswick Hotsprings, through the “Narrows” when contractors will be collecting large rock for the project. All work is expected to be completed in August. Please contact David Skinner, Project Manager at 208-7643475 (david.skinner@usda.gov) for additional information.
