Gateway West Transmission Line The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) analyzing the proposed Gateway West transmission line between Wyoming and Idaho Bureau was published last week. The Gateway West project, proposed by Idaho Power and Rocky Mountain Power, would strengthen the Western grid to meet the area’s projected growth in electricity demand by constructing nearly 990 miles of high voltage transmission lines across southern Wyoming and southern Idaho and adding between 1,500 and 3,000 megawatts (MW) of transmission capacity. The proposed routes include the southern part of Lincoln County and across Gooding County between Gooding and Wendell and north of Interstate 84. The BLM is considering a phased decision to allow additional public comment and consideration for siting some segments. Potential phased decisions could only occur for segments that have independent utility – those portions of the entire proposed line that could be built and put into service regardless of later decisions on other segments. The public can review and comment on the FEIS for the Gateway West Transmission Line Project until Friday, June 28, 2013. The availability of the FEIS also initiates a 30-day protest period on the proposed land use plan amendments associated with the proposed project, which closes on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Comments may be made to the BLM on the project website: www.wy.blm.gov or in writing to BLM in Cheyenne, WY

Cub Scout Graduation Last week, members of the Fairfield Cub Scouts gathered at the firepit behind the LDS Church for a special graduation ceremony. Two young men (Tyson Walker and Dylan Reedy) completed the requirements to move from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, and to celebrate, an Arrow of Light Ceremony was held. The ceremony had two parts: One, the presentation of the Arrow of Light patch (after which a flaming arrow was shot into the air); and Two, the bridge crossing. Crossing a rope bridge is a symble of facing difficult challenges and overcoming fears, and marks the crossing over into the new challenges and responsibilities of being a Boy Scout. But, not all is left behind. The highest award a Cub Scout can earn, the Arrow of Light badge, is also the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform. Congratulation to Tyson & Dylan, and their families.
